  so, this week's sm has extracts from the yearbook.. the [police] chief turned to his assistant and said, in all my 32years of serving on the force, i have never heard anyonethank us for our work!.

  Has everyone forgotten how we were asked to dig deep for Chelmsford when it was announced? The pause to the build and the slowdown now gives the perfect opportunity to ask for more money so off the elders go and act as the GB tax collectors.

  Does anyone have a time line on how often they ask for money? Can the recent frequency be compared to the past? I only ever remember it once a year.

  Ironically, the brother started the item about being as cautious as serpents with the question "how do we know we are sheep". My immediate reaction - cos we are constantly fleeced!

  Tv's in Kingdom hall

  so now that the borg has taken all of the congregations money, there was just a resolution to get all new tv's, etc for the stage for the new meeting format.. i wasn't there, but it was a large sum.

  somebody mentioned over 3000$.. all the congregations in the city are likely doing the same thing, and are getting all the equipment from bethel.. i was wondering if this was happening all most everywhere?.

  can't see it in third world countries( might not even have internet).

  its going to be a real beautiful place when its finished.. they are going for quality over quantity.

  it used to be accommodation for a few thousand permanent residents, now its looking like less than a thousand permanent with the possibility of a few thousand more in temporary accommodation should the need arise.. some say the plans are going to be like a garden of eden in england :) i mean they had farming in london over the years but this is going to be epic what they are planning for temple farm at chelmsford.. they are planting thousands (literally) of fruit trees, including tropical fruits in huge green houses, huge vines yards and then the same basic farming activities as before.

  Speaking to someone over the weekend who was on site just last week pretty much everyone has been sent home now. Just a skeleton crew there now.

  They have been doing works for access roads etc on site, tree clearing and other similar activities.

  There is nothing being built at the moment, nothing going up above ground. All of that is awaiting modified plans as they reduce the size of the build.

  Whilst you may be correct Orphan, I am not aware of a shift in the behaviour of ISPs and sites like YouTube in respect of legal representations from third parties. The de-facto stance is to simply tell the video poster or web site owner to remove the material.

  Even if there is a precedent set by the case you mention, it has not really changed anything. Google et al are not interested in the fight and leave it up to the poster/web site owner to pursue any challenge. Most people do not have the resources to mount such a challenge and therefore the status quo remains.

  I also have no idea what impact jurisdictional issues have on the matter given the borderless nature of the internet.

  As to the very interesting debate raised by the OP...

  I hate to say but I think much of the problem is the result of the original copyright holders not pre-empting the inevitable electronic distribution.

  Had they moved to electronic distribution, perhaps even with a donation arrangement over traditional payment model then they would have created the channel for electronic delivery of the books.

  I appreciate there may have been a number of reasons why this did not happen however I would submit that for many, being able to read the books electronically makes the difference between reading them and not reading them.

  Personally I have no problem squaring the circle of breaking WTS copyright to ensure as many people as possible can see the detail of what has been distributed on a need to know basis within the organisation. This would extend to CoC in the hypothetical situation of the OP.

  In the current situation I think it is very wrong of people to seek to make money from breaking the copyright on CoC however I also think it is inevitable that people will try and seek the books electronically and it has been a real shame there has been no official way to do this that supports both the copyright and the cost of production/distribution.

  Brilliant - loved it. If the original 1977 New Hope did not hold such a sentimental place in my heart from my childhood then I would say this was the best by far.
