Mandatory reporting IMHO is a red herring. Jackson bleating about trying to manage the various issues around confidentiality and protection, twisting and turning to portray Jehovah's Witnesses as some kind of loose religious co-operative with limited structure and then basically asking the commission to make it all easy by requiring mandatory reporting is pure hypocrisy.
Why is the WTS so unwilling to apply best practice that has already been implemented in other organisations? Why is the WTS so unwilling to unilaterally prioritise the reporting of alleged abuse to the authorities then worry about the internal disciplinary process once the facts are independently established? Why is the WTS so unwilling to make the procedure completely open, transparent and clear to anyone inside or outside the organisation?
These are questions that the WTS should be forced to face up to. Making the problem go away by enforcing mandatory reporting allows the WTS to avoid putting it's house into order when it is completely within their power to do so. Things might change for the better in Australia but simply waiting for the government to force the issue means they continue to stick with the status quo everywhere else.

Theocratic Ministry School cancelled. Why?
by the girl next door inis it possible this aspect of the meeting was cancelled so that jws would not be categorized as a "school" where in many areas elders and ministerial servants would have to submit to a background check by secular authorities?

Ok so the TMS was not cancelled, it was reformatted and rebranded. Why?
Because everything is being changed and rebranded in this religion at the moment. They had reached a plateau of top down, centralised dissemination of information and then they embraced video and the internet. Now they have a whole new set of tools to use to make things even more prescriptive and they cannot stop themselves inventing new ways of using them.
The average joe dub is being kept completely pre-occupied with change, duped into a false sense of urgency, hopefully distracted from complaint or becoming discontented with failed dogma through a never ending stream of new "content".
Every possible negative is being spun either overtly (e.g. the money/construction debacle) or covertly through rumour, some chariot references and over active imaginations fired by a group persecution complex.
The conclusion of the matter however is that whatever spews out of the arse of Bethel you just scrape the surface of the turd and expose the same old shite dumped into a new bucket.

Missed the Meeting
by konceptual99 inso yesterday was a lovely day where i live and so instead of going to the meeting we went, as a family, out for the late pm/early evening to have a bbq.
we were far more relaxed than if we had gone to the meeting.
we spent far more time talking that if we had gone to the meeting.

TBH CC not much has changed other than less activity on my part. I am working myself up to telling my wife I simply don't believe it anymore but it's difficult finding the right words and time. I have to do it at some point - the kids are growing and slowly getting absorbed into the JW mindset. I have given up hoping my wife will wake up herself just through my cynicism so I have to raise the bar. -

Let me guess, they sold it to someone else without any concern for their safety. This kinda reminds me of the ARC accusation that elders send known pedophiles into the community without any regard for other children in the neighborhood.
It's not been sold or even on the market as yet. The locals are waiting for the LDC to come back and say what they are going to do.
The property is in a very desirable area but has issues due to the age, current usage designation, grade 2 listed status and potential problems with the hillside. I am 100% sure they will sell but it's whether they sell as is to a developer, do remedial works or even do a full conversion to a residential property(ies).
There are lots of other properties in the street and so this question of the state of the hill side would supposedly apply to at least some of the others. It's not been raised as a community problem so there is some scepticism amongst the local congregation of the actual level of risk. Without independent verification there is nothing the congregation can do. Any sale to a developer would require full due diligence on the part of the purchaser of course.
The problem for the LDC is that if they have overblown the risk of landslip/rock fall and independent surveys debunk this then the locals will be miffed and simply want to return to the hall. On top of that, the longer they leave it the more it is simply a maintenance nightmare and the pressure will be there for the congregation simply to return and stuff the LDC.
