a jehovahs witness from stratford who took part in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl has been struggling with those demons for the last seven or eight years, a judge has heard.. but pleas for craig allen, who was said to have support from the jehovahs witness congregation, not to be jailed cut no ice with a judge at warwick crown court.. the 43 year-old of evesham road, dodwell, was jailed for two years and eight months and ordered to register as a sex offender for life after he pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child.. prosecutor andrew wallace said allen had met the girl in the mid-2000s through the church.. the girl, now a young woman in her 20s, said she began to fancy allen, who had started to pay her compliments.. then on one occasion when he gave her a lift, despite being fully aware she was only 15, allen sexually touched her.. she did not object or tell anyone what had happened, and there were further consensual incidents between them, including various types of sexual activity but not full intercourse.. someone who suspected what was going on between allen, a family man in his 30s, and the girl said something to her mother.. but when she challenged both her daughter and allen about what she had heard, they both denied it.. things stopped after the girl began to feel guilty about what was happening, and she eventually decided to come forward last year and contacted the police.. she said she had been dramatically affected by what had gone on, and that what happened with allen caused her to suffer a breakdown and still haunted her.. when allen was questioned by the police he accepted the incidents had taken place, but claimed it was the girl who had taken the lead.. elizabeth power, defending, said allen, who has a son and a daughter who were now both in their 20s, had attended for a voluntary interview with the police and made admissions.. he did not force himself on her but he was the adult and she was a child.

he says he was weak and was attracted to her.

Fair enough, the news that a 15 year old girl is sexually active is not exactly going to stop the presses.

Fair enough, the difference between sexual activity at 15 years 364 days and 16 years is (in the UK) one of legal status for consent.

Fair enough, a 15 year is perfectly capable of initiating sexual activity.

What is not fair enough is to give a married man in his 30s ANY slack or sympathy for allowing a relationship to develop with a 15 year old. He was the adult. He was aware of the law. To call the relationship inappropriate is an understatement. It is simply wrong.

Even if a 15 year could legally consent to sex, it does not make this sort of relationship appropriate or healthy.

how many of us were coerced to investigate the wt because some ex-jw pulled up a bunch of old watchtowers magazines and told us to read the false predictions?.

Or did you take it upon yourself to read it with no one telling you to do so?

Seriously speaking, I woke up myself in as much as no one else talked to me directly. There were a number of things that had got me thinking more critically and I started searching the web. I came across this site and it was from here that I got the courage to read CoC.

So, although I was self-motivated, it was the experience of people on this site and elsewhere on the web that gave me an outlet to express my frustrations and find routes to getting some answers. CoC, the works on 607 and JWFacts were key resources as well.

Is the end of Watchtowers hated No Blood doctrine in sight?

i won't pretend to know things that i don't but just look at the incredible rate of change we've witnessed recently.

it seems that since candace conti and the australian royal commission the watchtower are scrabbling around to shore up their finances in the face of unprecedented legal action against them.. abuse settlement claims are one thing but what happens when children die as a result of your religious teachings?!

you can bet wt legal are arguing for a complete rewrite of policy to protect the organisation from litigation.. do you think their religious privilege will protect them forever?

I came straight out a while back and said to a friend on mine who is on a HLC in the UK that it seemed like there was far more leniency towards accepting blood, that there was seemingly lots of avocation of treatments and that I could see the organisation perhaps making blood transfusions a non-sanctioned conscience issue.

He almost fell off his chair in shock.

He strongly denied that any of my comments had any basis in fact. He said that they were very careful not to impose anything on the conscience of individuals however he did concede that it was frustrating when a Witness refused certain treatments that many others readily accept. He said that people were regularly getting disciplined for accepting blood. Interestingly it seems that when considering a person's plea of repentance they would take a major steer on if the person had a up to date medical alert card and had it on them or took other precautions when going in for surgery.

He said there was zero watering down of the stance and that there was just as much emphasis on keeping a clean conscience about the use of blood as there ever was.

Sit down and STFU basically.

Light Getting Brighter

hello, maybe someone on here can make some sense out of this:.

one of the reasons why jws are so quick to believe any changes from the gb is that they believe the light is getting brighter.

now there have been some teachings that to my knowledge changed at one point but then were reverted back to the original teaching.

If you want a proper example of the "light getting brighter" then you can do no better than look at the scientific method.

It is very rare nowadays for something to come along that completely changes an existing theory. So much is verified and peer reviewed that new information simply adds more detail, exposes something previously unknown or verifies a prediction that previously could not be proven.

If you were to take something like gravity or general relativity and go back through the evolution of our current understanding you will find it like the layers of an onion, each modification building on previous knowledge. There will be an "eureka" moment where it burst onto the scene and wiped out some superstitious teaching (usually dogmatically supported by the Church) but after then it's about increasing knowledge not flip-flops, u-turns, complete change to understanding.

The way we understand the world around us through science is a true analogy for the light getting brighter. The changing doctrine of Jehovah's Witnesses with contradictory teachings replacing previously establish "truths" is the shite getting shite-er

Average age 40 ish. Not sure what the stats are but this is higher than I remember (early to mid 30's) so does this mean less young people are interested in becoming a missionary in their own country....

Yup- I just watched the handing out of the diplomas.

There were 33 assignments handed out.

29 were handed to 19 single people and 10 couples. All of these returned to their homelands.

4 assignments were handed out to 1 single brother and 3 couples.

The brother and one couple went to the US and the other two couples went to Serbia and Rwanda.

So how come the USA gets assigned missionaries? What about all these lands where the need is greater? Or is the need great in certain parts of the US?
