On the point of European branches, we shall see. I think it's more likely that it will take over work in parts of Africa, the Indian sub-continent and even Asia. The most important branch outside the US is not the UK, it's Germany. So perhaps there will be some consolidation but don't expect the UK to start taking over Germany's role.
Germany is the link to eastern Europe and Russia.
Chelmsford is near to large sea ports. I don't think that this is a coincidence and I think signals an intent to work wider afield in the EMEA region.

There is a mix of outside contractors and volunteer labour working on Temple Farm. The WTS is moving to use outside contractors for a number of reasons such as continuity of work, expertise, health and safety, costs etc.
It's easy to say that using volunteer labour reduces cost but if the project takes longer, has peaks and troughs of labour availability and involves overheads in accommodating these people then there are hidden costs that can be increased.
Health & Safety legislation on building sites is always being tightened and nowadays you typically need documentation to prove you are competent just to get on a site, let alone do things like operate certain machinery or work at height. The logistics of making this happen with your weekend warrior volunteer is very complicated. Much easier to pass the risk and responsibility onto a contractor.
The expertise required in large projects is increasing as well. Large groundworks, steel erection, modern building management and lighting control systems, facade systems, building code adherence etc. all require more skills than the WTS can be sure to have on tap at the right time. There's plenty of Bob the Builders in the congregations but not that many construction and engineering specialists with years of experience in large commercial building projects. That's not to say they are not there, just that having a contract in place means timescales can be more reliably followed and the right resource available.
The final factor is that they don't want huge numbers of elders, servants and pioneers out of the congregations. They want them there leading people and keeping the numbers up. There is no doubt that when a large proportion of the bright lights in a congregation get embroiled in a construction project then everyone else slacks off or get hacked off at the workload they are enduring just cos the COBE is off enjoying cushty days eating bacon sarnies and home made cakes on site.

I don't know if this is simply JW Bethanal (sp intentional) bureaucracy at it's worst or a cynical attempt to weed out those who don't really support the blood doctrine.

If You Disassociate Yourself , Should You Be Notified In Writing , You Have Done So ?
by smiddy inwhen a person dis-associates one-self from the congregation of jehovah witnesses , could , or should , such a person request a written document / letter attesting to that fact ?.
should the organisation formally inform such a person they are no longer a part of their organisation ?.
why i ask this is because of dis-fellow shipping cases , correspondence between the two parties is common place .

Unless it's one of the "disassociated by actions" special cases then there has to be a letter of disassociation from the individual to the congregation. Of course an acknowledgement would be polite but the individual has taken the formal step of documenting their wishes so I don't see that the lack of any further correspondence is a problem.
The other thing is that there will be a public announcement at the next meeting.
In some cases the elders may try and speak to an individual if they think there is some chance their mind can be changed or if perhaps there are some other circumstances specific to the case but in my experience most people that DA themselves have absolutely no intent of being any part of the org and will already be considered bad pennies. Most of the time the BoE will be only to glad to be shot of the person.

Thanks for these. What is interesting about the AD document is that the elders are being encouraged to have a copy of these documents on file. They therefore have a flag if there are any in congregation that refuse to do this.
I thought there might be a gradual fade on the blood doctrine but it appears not.

Had twenty minutes to kill at Victoria Station in London today. Got some lunch and went cart dub watching. In that time I saw countless people walk past the cart and two sisters holding stuff out without even glancing in their direction. One young lad took a magazine from the outstretched hand of a sister but was preparing to throw it away with just a few steps. No more than 4 or 5 people even made eye contact.
I was standing by a pile of Evening Standards and loads of those were picked up.....

Governing Body Public Address - today!
by diamondblue1974 inany ideas what this is about?
- apparently a three hour public address through each kingdumb hell from the gb.
anyone heard anything about this?.

Thanks for that. Firstly, nice work if you can get it and secondly, I wonder if this is permissable under the terms of their registration as a UK charity. Presumably the CO is funded via contributaions made in the UK and intended for the 'public benefit' in the UK.
Hmmm, quick query to the Charity Commission I think . . . .I don't know all the rules but I can't see that one having any traction. There are loads of UK charities that do work in the UK and abroad - Children in Need, Oxfam etc. spring to mind.
There is oodles of WT cash flowing out of the UK to other branches all around the world. Not only that but it is completely within a charity's remit to send officials abroad for all sorts of reasons.

Playground, sorry to hear of your distress. Whereabouts in the world are you located? I don't mean specific towns, just which country? If you are able to say then I am sure someone on here will know of some good agencies that can help.

Konceptual, I'm not calling you out at all but do you have any more information on this?
ThanksNP - I have friends in the Hastings area and the circuit there is smaller than others as the CO goes off to the middle east to do their CO visits. I could find out the name of the last CO there but it's all due for the three year change this September.
There are other COs responsible for foreign language circuits. I know Peter Morgan did this recently.
