I think the Research Guide is the natural replacement for the Reasoning book. Since this has not been properly released and discussed I suspect they will use the convention as a way of promoting it and discussing it's use.

Is anyone else completely astonished that they're drawing attention to 1914/2014 - 100 years
by jambon1 ini note that they're making reference to this in the upcoming convention programme.
someone has has dropped a bollock here, have they not?.
i mean, if i were a jw, i'd be sitting thinking of all the promises made and broken.

Posters on jwtalk consider this confirmed and reliable news but nothing official from the org yet.

As has been pointed out they are simply owning the space. Put something out there to diffuse apostate reasoning.

JW.Org
by Kool Jo ini've been pondering......with this new "push" to direct individuals to thw jw.org website, even when the dubs are out preaching...what do you think the future will be for the preaching work?.
some time ago i read that the mormons have implemented a live chat feature that allows you to speak with their missionaries....i doubt the borg would do this, but i think they have something up their sleeves.. peace.

You're right emeth, they don't need to use the mass media for the reasons I mentioned. They have an army of workers prepared to give up large amounts of time preaching in the most ineffectual ways.
These people need to be kept busy and using the mass media (which could never be the society's own) does not achieve that key objective of the ministry.
Most other organisations with that much money looking to get their message out would create a massive marketing campaign and put their message right in the face of the people. Imagine what impact a slickly produced ad during Superbowl half-time could achieve. More than years of knocking on doors. Prime time adverts on TV across the world every week for a year. Full page ads in every newspaper for days on end. Advertising on Google.
Don't think they don't have the money. They do. Getting the message out to as many people as possible is not the objective though, despite what they say.

Disrupting literature carts
by perfect1 ini am ready for a little guerilla warfare (no one gets hurt, of course).
but these literature carts in the city need to go.
everytime i walk by its all i can do to keep from knocking the thing over.. any ideas on how to destroy their little stash of paper.. so far my best idea is water, pouring water all over it.

I can understand the sentiment but don't bother wasting your time. When I finally fade away from this religion I have no intention of wasting any time in ineffectual activities that simply reinforce their persecution complex and give them a false justification for my spirtual "weakness". Walk on and do something more valuable with your time.

@emeth do your youtube viewers know you post here?
I don't see the door to door work being dropped anytime soon for the reasons cofty said.
I expect more alternative ways of preaching to be developed however in line with technology but not to the exclusion of the face to face preaching work.
What baffles me however is why, with all the gazillions of spons they have at their disposal, there is not a mass advertising campaign using the media. They could afford to advertise across TV, newspapers, online, radio with no problems in many countries. Get the JW.org brand out there and then backed up with people on the street. This surely would be the most effective way to reach lots of people.
Except it costs money.
And they have 7,000,000 volunteer recruiters.
Who need to be kept busy.
mmmm....

@Kate - this year the convention arrangements are VERY inconvienient for most people in the UK.
The international convention is being held at Twickers. Draw a line along the M4 to Wales and EVERYONE south of that line is going to the home of Rugby Union. That's all of Sussex to Cornwall.
Most of Kent, east London and Essex are going to the Excel in the Docklands. Which has pi**ed them all off, especially those in London since the "gold" location is Twickenham and they can't go. They have to sit in a convention centre and watch the GB big wigs huddled round a big telly. And be grateful. I know this bit 'cos a Bethel brother's wife from East London told me how upset everyone was when they were told.
Hotels have been booked solid for months now. People from Cornwall will be spending a fortune to attend. The cheapest rooms in Travel Lodges at the end of the runway at LHR are £100 a night. If you have kids and need two rooms then you are spending £200 a night. We have seen prices for almost £500 a night for a double room.
It's also a bank holiday weekend.
All of Wales are going Cardiff. Those in England but close the south Welsh border won't be going, they are off to Birmingham.
For those north of the M4 it's not so bad as there are conventions in Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow and Coventry. The only convention not happening on the 22nd-24th is Coventry which is the week after as they could not get the Ricoh that weekend.
