i watched the news on tv, and i saw reports of thousands of people all around the world asking for peace instead of war.
do you think that these peace rallies will really make a difference?.

This war is about oil, plain and simple.
Yeah, that must be it. Of course this is so obvious because after the first Gulf War the US went in and took over the oil reserves....oh wait a minute....
I'm not going to sit here and say that Bush is a Boy Scout or that the US doesn't have an interest in a stable mid-east but this "war for oil" idea is just plain stupid.
i'm a deskside support guy working for a service company, at one of their contracts.
i enjoy fixing things, although some of the customers could use a good knock on the skull sometimes.. i make pretty decent money for what i am doing.. for me, it's what i've wanted to do my whole life.
i had a computer from the time i was born, and love it since then.. what do you guys do to bring home the bacon?.

Im a mechanical engineering. I was one of the lucky few who ignored the Societys rules on college and went. I work for Plano Moldings (the fishing tackle box people) "custom division." Right now Im working on another medical device used for collecting and infusing blood into the human body. Ah, the irony kills me!

The rally had nothing to do w/ N. Korea. N. Korea is obviously a bigger threat seeing they have a nuclear plant in function and have removed the U.N. cameras from the area. HELLO. I feel they pose a bigger threat than Sadaam right now and I don't understand why the US has all of their focus and attention on Iraq when this is going on.

That's the point. Iraq is NK ten years ago. What if then President Clinton, back in the early '90's, would have taken a harder stance with NK instead of giving into their blackmail? (which NK didn't honor anyway) I believe we wouldn't be facing such a serious threat from NK. Now say for example Bush doesn't take a stand against Iraq, what will mostlikely happen. Iraq will secretly develop nukes just as NK did. And NK did it WITH UN inspectors there! In ten years do you want to be faced with the situation that now NK has nukes on rockets that can hit mainland US and Iraq with nukes that can hit any place in the mid-east and Europe? And what will other rogue nations do? You can bet that Egypt, Syria, Iran, etc. will ignore international pressure to not develop nukes and will soon have their own. It's beginning to look like this will happen if Bush gives in to the pressure of people who think they are doing the right thing.
While any war, fought even for "good" reasons, is a failure for both sides, sometimes it's needed for the greater good.

Just wondering what all of these people who don't want the USA to act against Iraq and North Korea want to see before they'll ok military action. Do these people understand that the goal is to NOT allow Iraq to get a WMD and to stop NK from making more????
My God what has to happen first, a nuke attack on the US where millions of people die? Don't people understand that this is what dozens of countries around the world would love to see? Screw them! Act now Mr. Bush and stop future terrorists from getting their hands on WMD.

here are the problems with face with n. korea.
they are even more notorious than iraq about breaking deals.
I imagine for the 'average citizen' it was about the same. They farmed when the South was in charge, they farmed when the North was in charge. Not to defend Communism, but communist movements usually happened when a people's government was corrupt,the quality of life sucked and they were willing to listen to someone who promised better things.
Iron, not exactly true. I wish I had the figure at my finger tips but I recall reading a few years back an article about the economics of Vietam during and after the US involvment there. The differnce of the GNP of the average citizen after the war and down to this day was a small fraction of what it was before the comminist north took over.
Davey is right. Had the Vietnam war been faught the right way and the south had won, Vietnam today would be like south Korea.

One comment about Vietnam. Was the quality of life of the average citizen in South Vietnam better while the US was there or after the US pulled out and the communist north took over?

we have had some pretty amasing classic comedy in britian over the years.. faulty towers, the office, alan partridge,ali g etc.mind you weve had some very crap sit-com 2.4 kids etc.. who does it better the brits or the yanks?.
