The only Greek that most JWs know is "agape." Then again, the only Greek I know is agape & gyros.

What worries the Governing Body the most?
by roybatty inif you were a governing body member (or one of the power brokers at bethel) what would worry you the most?
i was thinking about this last night.
do you worry about the lawsuits connected with the pedophile cover-up?

Hey Loves! Long time, no talk. Hope everything's good down in the Sunshine State.
I can see from all of these replies that the GB and the rest of the JW cronies @ Crooklyn lots to be worried about. I like the point that the organIzation wasn't designed to last hundreds of years and that the young people today have living proof of those who believed the WT's lies about the end of this system. They have seen the direct results of letting the WT rules someone's life and what happens when one doesn't plan for the future.
But is baptism of young adults down dramatically?

Great points eyeslice. I haven't been to the local Hall in a few years but I'm forced to drive by it on a daily bases. It amazes me the number of cars (or lack of cars) there are for the meetings. But what really shocks me is the lack of cars there for weekend service. On a nice, Saturday morning, there use to be a parking lot full of cars (I know, I use to be the service overseer). Now I'll see only a half dozen. Also, I'll see my JW neighbors stay home on meetings nights more often. Is this happening every where? What are those in Bethel doing about it? Can they do anything?

Fran,
That's another possibility that I've been thinking. Good comparison to Hitler. I just don't see anything "new" to fend-off the new round of attacks. It's just the same old crappy articles in the KM, stating the same thing over and over.

If you were a Governing Body Member (or one of the power brokers at Bethel) what would worry you the most? I was thinking about this last night. Do you worry about the lawsuits connected with the pedophile cover-up? Do you lose sleep over the fact that many long-time JWs are leaving the fold, especially elders? Does the Internet and all the "apostate" sites give you belly aches? Is the antiquated blood issue giving you headaches? Is Bill Bowen your nightmare? What one issue is at the top of the list?
If I were a GB member, I think the decline in book study and service meeting attendance is the biggest concern. I say this because WT is a business and like any business they need customers. While a business can replace managers, it cant afford to loose customers. The same is true of the WT. If the GB hears that "X" amount of elders left the organization last year, they could count on a new crop of "managers" to step up and run the show on a local bases. However, as meeting attendance declines and the WT continues to loose "customers" whos going to buy their goods?
Or on the other hand, is the GB and the other JW power brokers so wrapped up in themselves that they are oblivious to the oncoming freight train???

ANGER!!!
by Rado Vleugel inwhen i surf on this discussion board i feel a lot of anger.
this is totally understandable because a lot of us suffered or still are suffering from their association with the watchtower society.
some of us are victims of child abuse.

Catholic Churches, I see them providing emergency shelters and child care. In Chicago they provide help for those with AIDS/HIV and help immigrants with job placement and educating them about their rights. As a matter of fact, my parents were assisted by the Catholic Church when they immigrated from the Netherlands to the US. Added to all of these is the fact that personally, I find Catholics to be some of the most tolerant people around.
Now while the WT hasnt literally led a crusade or an inquisition, they have the same mind-set. The only differences between the Catholic Church of the middle-ages and todays Watchtower is opportunity and power. If they could, the WT would have every dissenter tortured and killed. While most non-profit companies provide some type of service for the community, the WT doesnt. They gobble up resources that could be put to better use. And it goes without saying that their policies actually cause breakdowns of families, thus they are bad for society in general. The article in the August KM about the proper treatment of dfd ones promotes hatred. I dont see any difference between it and say, for example, the writings of a Nazi or the KKK. While I agree that they have the right to exist, they need to be exposed for what they are. And if individuals are harmed because of their polices and teaches, they should be held accountable in civil court.
Yup, dam right Im still angry at them.

Congrats! I know the feeling. This is the second year that I've coached my son's football team. It's a LOT of work but it's very rewarding. I keep thinking "wow, if I didn't leave the borg, I would have missed out on this."
Kind of funny though, his mom and all of my JW family treat me like a leper and tell my son that "football is bad association." Well, guess what? Last year we went to the championship and guess who was there? All of them! LOL! And to top it off we won!!!!
There is a good web site call www.footballdrills.com It has some pretty good drills.

Mary,
I'm not certain why they chose to meet at a hotel. One thought is their absolute fear of bad PR. I guess they think it's better to see a newspaer picture of six men walking out of a hotel together as opposed to walking out of a church. Makes you wonder how clear their thinking is.
