LOL! Kat, nope, it didnt prevent us from getting married. And, truth be known, almost kept us married! I have to chuckle when I think about the times and places we sneaked off. Ah, and the teenage JW guilt that went along with it.

The dumbest way you got caught?
by kat7302 inive done some pretty stupid things in my time but i think the prize had to go to the time i was 14, out shopping and desperate for a cigarette..... i went into a secluded cafe so there was less chance of being spotted and was relieved to find that there was only one other couple in there.
i sat down with my coffee and confidently lit up, casually asking the guy on the next table to pass the ashtray.. next week i was hauled in front of the elders for smoking and found to my dismay that the guy sat next to me was a ministerial servant who recognised me from being on the last assembly programme giving my experiences!.

Owe You All An Apology
by Francois inthere was a longish post here yesterday, i think it was, or maybe the day before that outlined a pretty comprehensive summary of all the dos and don'ts and associated acceptable usages for this site.. i realized to my horror that there's one in particular that i fear i violate all the time and i'd like to briefly address it.. one of the "don'ts" was all about starting a thread, or - by extension - participating in a thread, and then not going back there to respond to others who have taken the time to remark upon what you've had to say.. i'm afraid i'm guilty of that; and guilty a lot.. i'd like to offer the following in defense of my former bad: as many of you know, about four years ago, i sustained a very serious injury and damn near died.
it was a close thing there for about a week as to whether or not i'd be pushing up daisies.
anyway, to make a long story miserable, i've been on a fairly whopping daily maintenance dose of a particularly powerful narcotic.

Hey Syn,
I understand what you're saying and your suggestions are definitely good. I think what rubbed me the wrong way (just a little bit) was that you posted these suggestions in response to someone's unsuccessful attempt to post a pic. Perhaps starting a new thread intended for everyone might have been a better idea. But thats just my opinion. I just didnt want anyone new to the board shy away from posting because they arent familiar web etiquette.
Yo Francois,
Like I mentioned above, I wouldnt want you or anyone else hesitating to start a thread because you might not be able to log on and follow up with a few comments. If the originator can follow-up, cool, if not, I dont consider it a big deal. BTW, I probably couldnt do half the stuff most people do here with their fancy messages! J

That's the problem I had with posts that set up "rules" for posting here. Make suggestions, fine with me. Start making rules, well, I'll go back to the WatchTower if I want rules.
Post here, have some fun, make new friends, play nice. That's all you really need to do. If you can follow up your original post, great. If you can't, don't worry about it. The rest of us enjoyed it.

Years ago when my ex and I were dating she asked me to come upstairs to her bedroom to listen to a new album (yes, album not CD) that she had just bought. Weeeeell, we started smooching and guess who walks in? Yup, the mom! Yikes! She screamed at the top of her lungs and threw me out! If she only knew what we really did before getting married.

Dealing With Witness Relatives
by metatron ina simple point but well worth repeating is that just as it took.
many gradual steps to 'come in the truth', so also it takes many.
gradual adjustments to leave it!.

Youre right on the money with point number one! Let them know that youre enjoying your life. JWs absolutely love to see people fail, even those in the congregation. Brother and Sister Upper Middle-Class buy a new house, others in the congregation have to tear them down behind their backs ("Have you noticed how many meetings theyre missing?") I never understood this mentality. While many non-JWs are the same way, its sad how people who address each other as brother and sister will at the same time tear them down.
I know that my JW family and other JWs in my area would love to see me be miserable and perhaps have some kind of breakdown. My kids, who go to the Hall with their JW mother and see their JW relatives, will tell me about comments they overhear people make to their mother. Comments that turn something positive into a negative, such as me coaching the local youth tackle football team or the kids and I attending church. I just shake my head and feel sad for these JWs. Living a life with so much negative feelings inside must be awful. I use to wonder where this negative attitude came from but now I know. It comes from the pages of the WatchTower. While on the surface there are pretty pictures and words about an earthly paradise, deeper inside there are negative thoughts and perceptions. Everything except the WT is bad. Everything except the WT will be destroyed. These people are bad, those people are bad. Its no wonder JWs think that the "glass is half empty."
While I dont have my new friends over for the sole purpose of showing my JW family and JW neighbors that Im fine, it is funny to see them walk by a dozen times, checking things out. Whether my kids are with me and my friends or my ex and her JW friends & relatives, I want them to have fun. I truly do. Its amazing to me that JWs want me and other ex-JWs to be miserable. Simply amazing.

I recall a story about him and some Bethelites. Supposedly Mr. Coffee was standing on the sidewalk doing his thing while a couple of stories above him were some naughty Bethelites with a huge bucket of water. They soaked him, had a laugh and then went back to work. Some time later they got in trouble for this and received some type of punishment. Not sure if this really happened or if it's another "urban legend." If I remember correctly, I heard this from a couple of ex-Bethelites. Anyone else ever hear about this? BTW, I also heard about that truck story.
