Time to seperate the men from the boys
by roybatty inand the women from the girls.. with the nfl games about to start, who here loves (not likes but loves) football?
ok, not everyone can be a fan of my deloved bears, so what other team do you have to settle cheering for?
oh, and in case you didn't know it already, bret farve is the anti-christ.

xan...yeah, playing football is more fun, except when you're 34 and need to get up and go to work the next day. Watching football alone...SUCKS...watching your team playing a rival...now that's fun. While I keep closer track of NFL teams, I'd much rather go to a good college game. Nothing is better than watching my beloved Bears crush the Packers but seeing an Illini vs. Bucheyes game, loads of fun.
Around here in northern Illinois it's an even split between da Bears and the fudge Packers. When they play each other, it's nuts around here. Yeah, it's only a game but that's the whole point. It's something to enjoy at the moment.
Bee...lol...cheering for the wrong team. I coach my son's youth tackle team and I'd say half the time the cheerleaders are cheering for the opposing team. Cracks me up.

I hate thunderstorms....
by butalbee ini really hate thunder storms, must admit.
i try not to hide in my basement anymore though, shuddering in a corner, reading a book by flashlight waiting for them to pass.
unplugging all electrical applicances, telephone outlets, like a mad woman... looks like we're gonna get one tonight, it's getting closer to us, as per weather.com.

Thunderstorms are the best. I love them at night as I lie on the floor in my living room...looking up at skylights watching the lightning flash and hearing the thunder roll in. Very cool.

Im better off
by WildTurkey inmany of us here, are not sure what the future holds, if there is a god, and if so what is his purpose.
i too fall into that category, but i think im better off now because when i was a dub, i always wondered if i was doing enough to get into the new world.
i worried about if my children would make it and if i was taking the lead for my wife and the cong.

WT, I don't know how long you've been gone but one thing I've noticed is that the longer I'm away from that crazy religion, the better off I am. I've been officially DA'd for about two years now and haven't been to the kingdom hall in probably 3-1/2 years but it's taken much of that time to cleanse myself of all the JW thinking. When one is mentally free of a prison, that's when they're truly free and even better off.

Great talk at the KH today
by searcher ini went to a kh near me today, they had a guy from london bethel talking.
he had some interesting things to say.. he did the talk in two parts, in the first half hour he was comparing 'this system of things with the titanic, and saying a lot about how the people on the titanic were carrying on normaly when the ship hit the berg.
then he went on about people had to 1, believe that the ship would sink and 2, have faith that the lifeboats would save them.

The WT is the Titanic and the Internet is their iceberg.

DO YA MISS "THE SWEET FELLOWSHIP"?
by minimus inone of the major reasons that a disfellowshipped or disassociated person has for coming back to "jehovah's organization" is that perhaps they will miss the "sweet fellowship".
after hearing comments regarding the km article on how to treat disfellowshipped ones, i must wonder why anyone of sound mind would think a disfellowshipped person would miss anything from the organization.
viewing persons as "dead" while out of the organization would not make one feel anxious to return to jehovah's loving arrangement through the organization.whoever coined the term about missing "the sweet fellowship" was pretty clever.

To some extent I do miss it but the feeling is less and less as I have made new friends. Since I grew up as a JW, what I still miss is having friends whom Ive known since childhood. Like most ex-JWs, Ive made dozens and dozens of new friends but there is still something about having a friend whom youve known since you were a kid. From time to time I do miss certain buddies. Those with whom you shared certain important moments in your youth (and were later teased about!). But now that I think about it, I havent thought about those individuals in a long time. It kind of reminds of the emotions one goes through when getting divorced.
Regarding the get-togethers, I think I have been fairly lucky. It was very cool have such a large pool of friends (was super easy to get a football game going). Though I dont have 5 million friends anymore, I do have much better friends now. Theres a lot of comfort in that. Just about every weekend that were together, my kids and I have been invited over by someone, either a relative or friend. Its something wonderful knowing that youre being included because of who you are not what you are.

Is the death penalty effective in usa?
by haujobbz in.
im asking this because lately in the uk 2 girls were murdered that were only 12 yrs old and now 59% population of the uk want the death penalty reinstated.. i assume you already have the death penalty in the usa, but do you think it is effective reducing 1st degree murder and potential child molesters, would you like to see the death penalty removed in the united states or not.. i wonder if the death penalty will be reinstated in the uk what do you think, personally i dont think it will maybe the politicians are afraid they wont get as many votes.

I don't believe that the death penalty really deters crime but I still believe it should be used in certain cases. I doubt a criminal thinks "hey, I had better not kill these people because I could face the death penalty if I'm caught." However, I do think that the death penalty serves a few good purposes. First, we will never have to worry that an individual who commits such a horrible crime will ever see the light of day. Secondly, I believe it gives closure to the victom's family. And finally, I just believe that death is the ultimate penalty and in some cases this type of punishment fits the crime. For example, I view what happened in San Diego with the scum who kiddnaped that girl, raped and strangled her worse (and deserving of death) then, say, an incident of two men getting into a heated arguement and one shooting the other.
But I have to admit one thing. The death penatly system in the US needs to be revamped. It's unbelievable how many individuals on death row have later been proven innocent by means of DNA evidence.

Thank You WatchTower!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by roybatty infor several weeks now ive been a little distraught that my jw, ex-wife will be taking our kids to the service meeting and have them listen the wts propaganda on how to view and treat dad & dfd individuals.
not only because of the possible negative effect it may have on my relationship with them but also the fact that they are being taught to hate a certain group of people.
my ex and i have made it a point never to talk negative about the other to the kids.

All, thanks for the kind words, I truly appreciate it.
Dede Wow, reading your experience brings me back a few years. I was an elder at the time and started seeing the huge holes in the WTs teachings. I tried pointing these out to my then wife, but, as you said, she viewed it as an attack on her religion. Right away she went to the other elders and before long I was out. Im so glad to hear that you two left together and have kept your family together. My son is 11 and my daughter is 8. I dont "attack" the WT because I dont want them to view it as an attack on their mother. Instead Ive been raising them with one set of spiritual beliefs and shes doing the same with her beliefs. But from time to time there is an issue that just needs to be addressed, such as this KM article. My son already sees many flaws in the WT and how it warps his mothers thinking. For example, she continues to tell him that the kids on his football team are "bad association" ((groan)). But thankfully he knows better. There are a few troublemakers, a few saints but most are just normal kids and he knows this. As a matter of fact two of his best friends are on the football team and Id put them against ANY kid at the Hall. He also sees how the meetings and restriction already impede on many activities he wants to participate in. My daughter is a slightly different story. While my son loves his b-day and x-mas presents, Hannah holds back. I think this mostly has to do with a daughter being closer to their mother and not wanting to hurt her mothers feelings. Hannah knows that I wont be upset if she refuses her x-mas presents but she knows her mom will be mad if she takes them. Kind of sad how even a mother will manipulate their kids.
Anyway, there seems to be a fine balance between exposing the WTs false teachings and letting the kids learn for themselves. I just hope Im going about it the right way. Ill be d*mmed if Ill allow the WT to steal my kids lives away from them.
