first off, i apologize if this subject has been hashed out before or even lately...i haven't noticed it if it has, but i need to ask it now, as it affects my family as i'm sure it does now, or has in the past, affected many of you here.. i have a daughter who is a very active jw, and a very typical one.
if the wts says it, it has to be so...or if she doesn't down deep agree with it, then god will eventually fix it, but for the time being she is supposed to go along with it....etc.
etc.. this is how she feels about df'ing, da'ing and the resulting shunning..even of a close family member, like her brother whom she adores.
Why I’ll never, EVER seek reinstatement….
1. Don’t want my two kids to be JWs.
2. Being held emotionally hostage is not something I desire again.
3. Um..how should I put this? Ah yes, the WT teachings are simply false.
4. F-R-E-E-D-O-M!!!!
5. I love being an active member of the community. (Do JWs really think that they’re helping the community???)
And finally, I hope that my example will cause others, especially my family, to leave this destructive cult.
i can't belive it's been a whole year!!!!.
last year on oct 3rd, i was at home with my parents eating dinner.
we of course were not at the meeting .
Happy anniversary!!! My DA’ing was also in October of last year. To say that a whole new life opened up is too simplistic. It’s more like a whole new way of thinking, like a mental fog was lifted from my mind. Anyway, enough analyzing, pass the champagne!

i just got off of the phone with my jw sister, who lives in seattle.. she just recently moved there last summer when she married her husband, tim.

the co announced that there would be a meeting with the elders saturday afternoon in addition to the usual friday night meeting.
is that happening in other congregations?

We always had one last brief meeting with the CO either Saturday after service or Sunday before the meeting. It's just to go over the report that he sends to the Society about how crappy the congregation is doing.

Getting off the subject a little bit but it seemed that music was one thing that always stirred a things up. When I was pioneering in the late ‘80s I was almost removed because I bought the U2 Joshua Tree CD and later saw them in concert. Some sister also bought the CD but decided to get rid of it because of the line “I held the hand of the devil” in the song “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Anyway, before she threw it out she went to the PO and told him that I about the CD, that I owned a copy and that *gasp I saw them in concert. So we did the little back room talk, I kept my CD and soon afterward (to my surprise) became a MS! LOL. Anyway, it always bugged me when people in the congregation tried to dictate their personal taste or even worse, made up rules regarding such.

I’ll give you some more details. The CO read some of their lyrics (several of which did have the “f” word), several articles from Pearl Jams web site (where the “f” word was used quite a bit) and then he proceeded to tell the elder body that on Yield CD there is a song called “Do the Evolution” so he believed that Pearl Jam promoted this false teaching. As anyone who’s familiar with this song knows it’s a sarcastic look at how “evolved” man claims to be yet we still kill each over by the millions. Anyway, maybe I shouldn’t have done this but that Saturday I pulled into the KH for field service with the windows rolled down and Pearl Jam coming from my car speakers. I still say that the Yield CD is pretty good. LOL.

At one elders meeting with the CO him and I got into an argument, of all things, music! LOL. He (along with most of the other elders) felt that a certain young brother shouldn't be appointed as a MS because he went to a Pearl Jam concert. I felt otherwise. SOOOO the next day after the regular meeting he called all the elders together into the second school and proceeded to read to us all of the research he found on the internet regarding Pearl Jam. It was sooo funny to hear him read their lyrics, some of which contained the "f" word, which he read word for word. Ok, call me juvenile but it cracked me up hearing the CO say "fuc*" over and over again. He saw me trying to hold back from laughing and his face turn red with anger. Needless to say, I wasn't an elder much longer.
as a witness what occupation did/do you hold?.
i was speaking with a friend of mine that is a former witness and we remarked about how many of us have worked in some sort of janitorial work.
I work as a mechanical engineer, though not degreed. Years ago I was attending a great mid-west college, until I gave into the pressure to quit college and pioneer. Dam what a waste when I think about it.
