In my old KH we also had to power go out one night. There were only one light left as an illuminator in the world and only one message to the sheeples...

Power blackout during the meeting tonight!
by stuckinarut2 init was so funny!.
the small rented hall our congregation uses had a blackout.
we think there was some construction work next door that caused it.. at least the glow of everyone's tablets and cell phones kept the place illuminated!.

Ah, Cedars. To take a look at the other side for a moment, Cedars has been using his own reasoning to proclaim the end of the Watchtower since he first arrived on this site years ago. He's a bit of an egomaniac and seems on a personal vandetta to bring down the WT. And thinks he can bring it down. And he's looking for ANY sign that it's crumbling to validate himself. He's like a jilted lover bent on seeing his ex have a bad life for the crime of hurting him.
. . . Cedars aside, people have been predicting the end of the WT for years. Remember, followers of Russell are still around. Bible Students who follow Studies in the Scriptures still exist. So it's not easy to kill a religion or a following. Hell, just look at the Jewish scriptures. People still follow that millennia later.
JWs can and do reinvent themselves. They have an audience of the gullible. Every change becomes a blessing from God with all the spin of Fox News. But we on the outside can see the difference.
I see numbers, like non-associated (atheist/agnostic/no religion) rising 1%/year in America while Christianity decreases 1%/year. Baring some event to sway people back to church, I think those rises and falls pick up in speed. The bigger the atheist voice, the faster people will join it. And that's how I see religions failing in America. Reason. No longer our Christianity vs. yours where we can debate the finer points of scripture. A totally unreceptive public turned off to all forms of proselytizing.
But then again, growth has been stagnant here for years. It's the developing countries where this stuff catches on best. It may be that the JWs of the future are a Central-American based religion that nobody hears much about here.
I don't expect to see it die in my lifetime. Probably not Cedars either.
I invite jws "to take a look at the other side for a moment" . . .
Watchtower has been using their own reasoning to proclaim the end of the World since they first arrived on the scene all those years ago in 1879. They are a bit of an egomaniac and seem on a personal vandetta to bring down the World. And thinks they can bring it down. And Watchtower is looking for ANY sign that it's crumbling to validate themselves. They are like a jilted lover bent on seeing his ex have a bad life for the crime of hurting her.

COMMENTS
If Cedars' "egomaniac" comments sound like he is on a "personal vandetta" [sic] and looking "for ANY sign" by "using his own reasoning to proclaim the end" then how much more so the Watchtower's.
Many people have been hurt by the Watchtower and many such ones use their own personal circumstances and experiences in sharing their life-moulded viewpoints with others. And this is my life-moulded viewpoint.
I believe Simon nailed it . . .
The WT is now flush with cash, growing and much slicker with better marketing.
Any prophecy of impending doom is pure wishful thinking.
No sizable religion is going to vanish now. They are easily past the "self sustaining" size and will be here for a long time.
It doesn't matter what we can prove about them - people don't care. No one is in any religion because of logic or "truth".
No truer word uttered.

July 19th Watchtower Summary. Insanity
by Lemonp injust got back from the wt study and it overall was just so blindingly biased and leading.. i had to read it from the platform too, i hope they couldn't see the confounded look on my face as i read this craziness out!.
first we consider the faith of abel, enoch, noah, abraham, isaac and jacob, and moses.. all of these people are held up as sterling examples of blind faith, with the article pointedly saying that their imaginations sustained their faith in gods promises for them.
no mention anywhere at all that all of these characters saw and talked to angels, spoke to god himself, saw and performed miracles, or any of the other feats experienced by these characters.

Paragraph 15: "On the other hand, as Christians we are encouraged by visualizing our hope... Perhaps you “see” yourself living on earth forever. Think about cooperating with others in making this globe into a paradise... You are healthy, energetic, and have a bright outlook." Yes, these ideas are reality!! "This appealing mental picture is based on Scriptural truths about the future."
“The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason.” - Benjamin Franklin
Personally I visualize a world where the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses have been raptured to heaven. In fact if I shut my eye of reason this appealing mental picture is based on Scriptural truths about the future.
"Soon, very soon!" ... since 1879.

Where are all these New Anointed Ones Coming from?
by John Aquila inback in the early 70s, right before 1975 we had about 7 or 8 thousand professed anointed.
cant remember the exact number.
but at every convention we were told that the end is close ---because---the number of anointed is getting smaller and smaller.

Hot Springs, Ark. — A large highway sign on the drive to the Hot Springs Convention Center advertises the town proudly as the “boyhood home of President Bill Clinton.”
But Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was the big name in town here Friday night, where he keynoted the state’s annual GOP dinner, and reminded a crowd of about 1,000 attendees: “By the way, Hillary Clinton, with her husband, deserted Arkansas.”
...
The convention center was teeming with a surprisingly diverse crowd for a Trump dinner just before his arrival. But all of the African American attendees, it became clear, were on site to attend a Jehovah’s Witness conference taking place next door. Trump’s crowd, in the end, was almost completely white.

DesirousOfChange - Dancing With The Stars is popular, instead of PBS
That and the fact that Trump is leading the polls in the GOP kinda sums it all up in the USofA, doesn't it.
That should tell ya that there will always be some suckers around for WT to scam. That reminds me... Did you hear the one about the Republican presidential candidate who turned up in the "boyhood home of President Clinton" for a GOP dinner to find the place teeming with a surprisingly racially diverse crowd?
All of the African American attendees, it became clear, were on site to attend a Jehovah's Witness conference taking place next door. Trump's crowd, in the end, was almost completely white.
TRUE STORY. It happened this weekend.

Demoted from elder to MS, anybody ever heard of this?
by Naoscillator inso a friend in a nearby hall told me their co came through, and in a hellish week of long meetings and inquisition overhauled the boe.
only one remains as elder, three were re-appointed as ms, and one, the cobe was deleted entirely.. two new elders were brought in as new secretary and cobe / watchtower conductor, respectively, and introduced to the congregation from the platform on sunday immediately following his second talk.
he reminded everybody of the authority he has and then named the new appointees.

Splash - The scriptural difference between an elder and MS is that the elder must be 'qualified to teach'.
Good point, but therein lies the conundrum for the JWs. Is an elder 'qualified to teach' before he is appointed as an elder or only after he is appointed as an elder?
If it is before he is appointed as an elder then he was indeed 'qualified to teach' as a ministerial servant. But if it is only after he is appointed as an elder then he should not have been appointed as an elder as he was not 'qualified to teach'.
This was the whole argument of Paul in Romans 4:9-12.
On the other hand, the Bible lists practices and personal habits that prevent someone from being appointed as an elder or ministerial servant. Many of these are disfellowshipping offences. If a brother does not qualify then is it reasonable to conclude that his practices and personal habits disqualified him?
Of course, in a man-made religion under the control of a corporation none of this matters.

If you were told today you would die next week, would you be happy and fine with that?
by EndofMysteries ini don't know how so many who seem to be certain this life is it after being jw's seem to happily accept it and be fine with it.
i am living and trying to live as if this is it.
i want there to be a future life/afterlife, something, but i see how fast life comes and goes and even if i'm living it to the fullest, there is no peace for me with the thought this may be it.
