My friend from 40 Years ago
by Lady Lee inwhen i was a young jw and all the other young jws were avoiding me because i was from "that family" i had one young girlfriend who didn't care.
we were both not well liked so we hung out together.
she was my maid of honor when i got married but we lost touch because soon after the wedding we moved to "where the need was great" to help set up another cong in our hall.

Differences Between JWs in the US and Europe
by BU2B inthere are many cultural differences between the general population of the us and europe, what about jws?
i have heard about such things as beards being allowed, movies that a jw cant watch in the us or would be frowned upon watching being ok, same with tv shows, and even the way they dress in public.
seems more laid back over there if this is true.. any truth to this?

The whole Puritan/Calvinist rigidity lingers in New England, especially the farther north you go. Extremely conservative.
There was a congregation in New Hampshire that kept a bunch of white dress shirts just in case the visiting speaker showed up unacceptably dressed.
My ex-husband grew a mustache when we were living in Boston. We went home to Maine to visit his family and his dad said, "So, when did you fall out of the truth, Dave?"

Local needs talk
by hoser inone of the elders was missing his service bag and suspected that one of the publishers stole it.
he was determined to root out who did it so he decided to give a local needs part on the ten commandments focusing on you must not steal.. he enlisted the help of a trusted ministerial servant and got him to stand at the back of the kingdom hall during the part.
he told the ms that he would read off the ten commandments and when he got to the one "you must not steal" he would pause longer than usual and see if anyone acted nervous or suspicious.

"The Truth That Leads To Eternal Life" book
by smiddy inif i remember correctly there were more than 100 million books distributed around the world in the the 1960`s.. and if i remember correctly it was listed amongst the ten most distributed/published books by the guiness book of records .. and if i`m not mistaken "paradise lost to paradise regained" was also on this list.
and even in one year about that time their were no less than four of the societys publications on the 10 most distributed books ever.
at that time.. how much of what was printed in those publications then, is relevant to what is beleived today.

i'm finishing the junior year of my engineering degree and the classes are hard as hell.
i used to be among the smartest students in the room until i hit the 300 level university courses.

How many ways....
by Lady Lee in... can you name that the wts hurts people?.
two big ones for me:.
it pushes people to the edge and when they commit suicide they say: "well he wasn't really a jw anyways soit has nothing to do with us".. it pushes people so much to do more and more and more that they get depressed, and physically sick.

I have one that I love. It was my ex-husband's favorite dish. The key is to cut extra firm tofu into slices and lay them on several layers of paper towel, cover that with several more layers and squeeze out as much water as you can.
Curried Rice, Tofu, and Vegetables
1/4 c oil
1 pound firm tofu cut into 3/4-inch cubes and patted very dry
3 tablespoons butter
1 red bell pepper, cored and diced
4 cups (12 oz) sliced mushrooms
1-1/2 tsp turmeric
2 tsp ground cumin
1-1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp salt
4-5 cups cold, cooked rice
1-1/2 cups frozen peas, thawed or fresh peas lightly cooked
2 tablespoons tamari soy sauce
1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it is hot but not smoking. Add the tofu and fry until it is golden, tossing often. Set aside on a platter.
2. Put 2 tablespoons of the butter in the skillet and when melted add the red pepper and the mushrooms. Saute for 10 minutes or until the peppers are tender and te mushrooms are brown.
3. Add all of the spices and the salt, toss to blend well and cook for 1 minute.
4. Reduce the heat to medium and add the cold rice, peas, and tofu. Toss until well mixed, then add the soy sauce and toss again. Cook, tossing often for 5-10 minutes or until the mixture is piping hot.
5. Just before serving cut the remaining tablespoon of butyter into bits and add. Toss again and serve.

Yummy!
