the february 8, 2002 awake on weddings makes the following statement on page 6 about traditions.. what is the meaning?
is it tied to superstition that is a good-luck or fertility wish - such as showering the newlyweds with rice?
is it connected with false religion or other practices condemned by the bible?.
Stealth...
I would correct your estimate on the percentage of people worldwide who would otherwise know if certain wedding rituals were pagan or not.
May I suggest 99.9% instead of 99%? You see, 0.1% would amount to the percentage of witnesses in the world (6 million) which leaves the correct figure to 99.9% of the world population not being aware of these heathen origins. Actually, and more correctly perhaps - let's bring down the figure to 3 million witnesses as I perceive half of them would still not have a clue, so the figure may be truer at 99.950%... Oh, by the way, did you know that most of the members of the Governing Body do not or hardly read their bible? Hard to believe? Yes, but oh so true...

ummm...question re my mothers status...she got dfd 3 months ago and expected to be shunned.
indeed, i told her she would be shunned.. but she reckons that everyone is being real nice, talking to her in the street, etc, has there been a change of policy?.
ive been out a long time and would have expected shunning.. shes starting to think of me as a false prophet.
I can only see a tightening up on the part of the Society. The internet poses a real threat to the WT, as people could now discover the inner workings of the hierarchy of things pertaining to the Borg.
Imagine if they were to relax the shunning practises, there would be more dialogue between DF'd persons and witnesses in general, bringing out the probability of exposure of the GB. Remember that all members are strongly discouraged to browse the internet except for purely "beneficial" reasons, yet those who have left the Watchtower usually and willingly expose themselves to the use of the internet and thus be able to acquant themselves with information previously unattainable.

sorry, folks, i must do it... .
yesterday, i got hurt in my heart, and my stomach-ulcus' almost exploded, when i read as follows: .
yk: what type of "falsely posing jw's on this board" did you mean ??
YouKnow claims that someone is of the worst possible kind if he/she would pose as a brother/sister while being overly friendly to real witnesses but all the while manipulating the Society to bring it down to nothing secretly.
Only Jehovah knows the hearts of men perfectly without any deviation. Precise judgments only issue forth from a perfect Creator and this God, Almighty as He is, is so far above all puny humans, that whatever these "lowly" human beings proclaim, would account to NOTHING when compared to the Creator of all things!
YouKnow is not able to read the hearts of individuals, nor is the Watchtower organization able to do that in the slightest degree!
Jehovah is a forgiving God who can peer into the deepest recesses of our hearts and kidneys enabling Him to discern all true motivations. And even if these motivations point to a small degree of sincerity - though only slighly so - then Jehovah would dwell on that positive heart condition and He certainly would not judge men to be "wicked" and "beyond all hope" and thus not worthy of consideration anymore.
YouKnow lacks the humility and servility in all his assessments on other human beings as he compares them to a rigid manifesto of rules and regulations by which he judges accordingly within a framework of absoluteness and using human standards as a benchmark.

hello eveyone.
forgive me for just jumping in your threads without giving some information about myself.. my name is danni.
i am a law enforcement officer.
Hi Danni...
Welcome to this board. I just read your queries and comments on this board. To give you a quick answer, I have to agree with "thinker": he put it in a nutshell about the witnesses. But I will get back to you and give you a deeper analysis by going to the bottom of this organization.
Meanwhile I am happy that you are here and that you are open-minded about everything and look at the pros and cons in an objective way.

I guess when the WT brings out that there is going to be a restructuring of sorts, it may mean that the rules become more rigid so as to protect witnesses from the onslaught of opposing views from apostates. That's why I think they will not relax the shunning practises but make them ever stricter because the WT will prevent any witnesses from finding out the real truth of what they are really about. The internet is a tremendous burden to them and they will do anything possible to restrict the usage of such, except to allow them to visit the Watchtower's website alone...

Cellosinner...
Interesting question. In my experience, whenever an elder is privately reproved, he is taken off as an elder and cannot serve in that capacity until the time that he is re-appointed. It's a more serious matter when an elder commits a sin so that he must be reproved because of his heavier responsibility in the congregation. But then if he moves away to another congregation and has some "friends in high places", I guess matters can be manipulated to make it believe that there may have been a misunderstanding in the former congregation because of a difference of opinion, which perhaps could have been the reason why he got reproved in the first place. Or they received a "recommendation letter" from his previous congregation that he was a very good elder and minimize his wrongdoing to the point that it may not have been entirely his fault because of extenuating circumstances.
I remember a publisher in our old congregation many years ago, who moved from Canada to Holland. This publisher did not attend meetings regularly, was publicly reproved for adultery many years ago - yet within 3 months of being in the new congregation in Holland he became a MS and 6 months after that he was appointed as an elder! They desperately needed elders and sometimes the prevailing attitude in another congregation may be quite different, especially if they have a shortage of elders. Interestingly, the congregation may eventually be inclined to take on a different personality similar to the traits of the few elders who are serving there for a long time and as a result those brothers may suffer because of the elders' arbitrary disposition by not being able to give proper and unbiased counsel. Consequently, these few elders may then decide to appoint this reproved elder more quickly than necessary because of their shortsightedness and selfish personality.
Yes, there is a frustrating of plans where there is no confidential talk, but in the multitude of counselors there is accomplishment...

It's difficult to suppress my anger when I see this wholesale manipulation on the part of the GB! Some of the points are even more ridiculous where they exploit the elders and R & F like marionettes or puppets!
You are almost correct in saying that the GB is 10 years behind: I would say at least 30 years behind or more!
They say that verbal correspondence is better. What a farce - of course anything verbal does not stand up in any court of law, including a JC. They are just covering their "butts" in all this.
Then they say that the "ideal is to have nothing at all to do with our disfellowshipped family members if possible, as that would please God" The WT deliberately maneuvers things so as to make sure that the members do not get any outside information, so they stay clear of even their own flesh and blood. How insidious and unloving and how they dare to put themselves on the pedestal as superior judges!
Regarding the blood issue: they expect another change soon - most probably because otherwise they could be sued by friends and family members of those who decided not to take blood and die as a result.
They reiterate that the FDS (Faithful & Discreet Slave) has been appointed over all his belongings and that all should be obedient no matter what! If they don't then they ridicule Christ. How presumptuous on their part to claim the backing of Jehovah! Do we need more proof that they cannot be supported by a loving God. They can say what they want - you can say a lie a thousand times and people will believe the lie eventually, but God sees through the hearts and knows better!
They assert that wordly people read the bible in a perfunctory or disinterested way... How do they know that? How many times do they quote bible scholars and paraphrase their interpretations as a done deal? They are also panicking when someone does secular research - what are they afraid of? That we might find out the real truth about them and the bible? Then they again come up with their assessment of what an education entails: that it serves no purpose. In my view a good and solid education always has a purpose: to get and have a real life...!

When elders serve on a Judicial Committee, they are in effect setting themselves up as judges. Their aim is to stay close to the bible and follow its principles. Having said that, many problems still ensue as many elders just don't have the education level required to make sound decisions which should be entirely based on bible principles without getting emotionally involved, but at the same time showing a good measure of mercy. They invariably follow the thought of the majority whether they have individual questions or not. That's why they are often not helping the afflicted one come to his/her senses in a compassionate way; no, they are seeking out ways to catch the guilty one in order to take disfellowshipping action. It's all in the name of keeping the congregation clean, which is foremost on their minds. It's almost as if the elders have to "reward" themselves in spending many extra hours of their time to deal with problems, so as a result they show favoritism, one elder will "outdo" the other in presenting scriptural references, being overzealous, clashing with their egos while all the time knowing that a disfellowshipping action is already in the works regardless of the circumstances and pleas from the guilty one, especially in cases where there are appeal committees! It's actually worse than an impartial court case: you cannot have a lawyer to defend yourself, you're all alone and any defense you are presenting will often be viewed as an excuse rather than an honest demonstration of facts and therefore making the verdict of the JC predictable and cold without showing too much heart.
It's almost like going back to the Middle Ages...
