the reason that i am a little afraid is that four out of my five grown children are still jws and if they knew that i was on here.....well nothing would change, would it, they don't speak to me now.

ok. i called the p.o.

and smoothed (pressured) him over, he will be here at noon saturday... my brother and i have worked him over on the phone , and he already admitts he can't prove jesus choose the wt in 1919 etc etc...as he can't get the older wt's.... so he's speaking presumptuously...... i did a little studying today , and he is in big trouble... we will keep him on the subject, at all costs... and the subject will be false prophecies of the wt... i have decided to just wing it, and throw out all kinds wt rotten food.... mike is hot over here and i'm quite sure we can have his head spinning in short order.... we are going to hit the finished mystery book hard... but i am open for any ideas to put the last nail in his coffin....john

I don't think that they can actually vote. If I remember correctly, this "provision" was set up by the loving Slave to enable JWs to avoid persecution over the voting issue. The "suggestion" was given that they could enter the voting booth, and simply place a blank ballot in the box to avoid compromising their "neutrality."

Not sure if I have this right.

HOW MANY JW KIDS LIKE SATURDAYS

think about it.. we were the only kids that hated weekends, all the other kids got to stay at home and watch cartoons, we had to pound the pavement and get up early sunday for the boring meetings.. any thoughts.

Didn't any of you people go out in service on Sunday, too? My weekends were Saturday morning service, help with the housecleaning on Saturday afternoon, study for Sunday on Saturday evening, Sunday morning meetings, Sunday afternoon service--or, when the congregation split, Sunday morning service and Sunday afternoon meetings.

The worst, though, was holidays....every Thanksgiving and Christmas I would be out there bothering people.

did being a jw stifle your ambition?

did not needing to plan for the future affect your career choices and your consequent wealth?.

i'm not simply talking about following the advice to not take up an education which has been discused many times, but i'm going further to say that those brought up in "the truth" had their whole philosophy moulded and shaped in a way which never searched for more or wanted more; a non-materialistic outlook.. now some may still say materialism is evil, or that being brought up this way leads to a more content life.. the cynics, like myself, will say that keeping people 'happy but poor' is the genius of the rich.. i've had some success after leaving the org, after taking up education and so on, but it has taken time.

Oh, yes. I was brought up as a JW, and put everything on hold to serve Jehovah. I finally left when I was 37, and up to that point I had almost nothing put away for the future. What future? We would never grow old in this System!

I was fortunate that I managed to get on-the-job training in mainframe programming, and also fortunate that I really love it. I've been able to get a decent job with decent pay, but it's difficult to play catch-up with retirement savings.

As JWs we were taught to put our lives on hold in "this system" so that we could live them in "the new system." So, we never followed our dreams, we never allowed ourselves to simple live. Every day was filled with rules, regulations, and things to do to prepare us for what was to come.

No one really knows for sure what is in store for us. All we know for sure is that we are here....now....and we must live our lives in the best way possible. Fulfill our dreams, reach out and make a difference TODAY. Enjoy what God has given us.

It is NOT The Watchtower Society anymore?!?

i don't know if this has been posted recently but... .

i was just talking to a friend (a ms jw) that told me that he was told by the elders on a talk he was about to give that according to their last elders school there are instructions not to use the terms "the watchtower society" or "the society" or "the organization" anymore... but rather to now always use "the faithful and discreet slave" or "the slave"... .

I was corrected on this point a couple of months ago on Beliefnet. I referred to the Watchtower Society as the entity to which JWs looked for guidance, and they informed me that the Watchtower Society is the legal corporation and has nothing to do with the FDS. They stated in that post that they follow the FDS, and NOT a legal corporation.

This seemed a little odd to me at the time, but it does fit with what you've reported here. I think it will take awhile for the R&F to get used to it, however, since they've since fallen back into the old habit of speaking about the Society, and the Organization being equivalent to the FDS in their minds.
