I hated the actual door knocking, but when my two hours were done, I felt good that I'd done the "right" thing even though I hated it.
Though I did like the donut shop breaks.

After A Day In Field Service, Did You Get Euphoric Or A Spiritual High?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia ini know this might sound silly but field service did provide a strange type of good feelings after i was done.
i called this the "halo-effect" because i felt so "righteous, obedient and good" for taking the weirdos or "the friends" in my station wagon.
vans and station wagon owners in the congregations often get used hard, pile up seven whacks and your off!

What rumors have you heard about yourself since leaving?
by donny ingood morning all,.
i have had the opportunity over the last couple of years to speak with a couple of jw's who had either attended the same congregation i did or were married to someone who to the same one.
for the record, i disassociated myself in 1992 due to being followed around by an elder or two who had heard that i had ray franz's "crisis of conscience" in my possession.

Why do all religions have to have really stupid beliefs that are an embarrassment.
by mP ini cant understand why some people want to start a new religion and they have to invent new stories, but why oh why do they have to be so stupid and why do people fall for them.
so many religions like the mormons, jw etc all have such down right nutty stupid beliefs its a wonder why they couldnt simply be more realistic... i dont get it..

In the case of Joseph Smith (and possibly even Charles Russell), I sometimes wonder if they had some kind of mental illness that made them delusional. If they are convinced of their delusions, they can explain them to others in convincing ways.

Who cares about 2014
by konceptual99 ini keep seeing posts expressing a view that 2014 is going to trigger a significant increase in unrest amongst witnesses as it's 100 years since 1914. there has also been some suggestions that the society will have to publish something to head this off at the pass.
i can understand why this might seem a reasonable view but i am not hearing any discontent about the date amongst anyone i know.. my impression is that the significance of a 100 year anniversary of 1914 is of more import to those that have left the organisation and those already questioning things than it is to the average dub.. i also suspect that the society will not do anything that may raise the profile of 100 years passing.
much more likely is more subtle messages such as the one in the jan magazine about "false alarms".

In my personal opinion, I think some of them have been following for so long that they won't leave no matter what -- to leave would solidify that they've wasted so much of their life on it already.

WT quote with Harold Camping and Family Radio inserted, makes sense
by Wasanelder Once inwhat if the watchtowr were to insert different names instead of their own in this article?
it could read like this.
wouldnt it sound just as relevent as family radios' fiasco?.

I've gotten word through the grapevine that my family thinks I regret my apostasy.
Newsflash: I DON'T.
Granted, I don't like being separated from my JW family members, but I don't regret leaving the JW doctrine. -

Sir82: If ANYONE had to pay to get in, I don't think ANYONE would go to any church, kingdom hall, synagogue, etc.
As for being paid for "service"? I'm thinking that if members actually got paid for it, more would be doing it, and in greater quantity of hours. And, of course, pioneers would exceed their hours.

Jehovah's phone number
by ShirleyW inwell actually my caller id said jehovahs witnesses, so it belongs to one of his ever so faithful servants who was trying to get in their hours this evening and was doing phone work, i just wonder how you can call a phone company and request a phone number under a name that belongs to a worldwide religion.
of course sis.
[name removed] from the [removed] congregation here in the city, started in with the hurricane sandy doom and gloom sermon, had to tell her ive heard that sermon since i was child in the 60s, asked why dubs do that when the scripture says no man knows the day nor hour basically she/they are still holding out for a holy calamity to do away with us evil folks of the world, she mentioned the earthquakes and pestilence and things are worse now than when you were a child, can they please get another script or something?

I "third" that motion.
The general membership are unknowingly deceived, just like the rest of us were. It's the Watchtower who is the actual villian here.
I have found that it's better to simply ask an "innocent" question that gets them thinking for themselves. That way you aren't seen as apostate or hostile, and it plants a necessary seed. Even if they spew their rehearsed spiel to your innocent question, you know that privately it will stick in their heads.
