I think that's a wonderful idea and very good of you to do this for them. I think it's a good idea for you to control what the money will be used for and by the time they are college age, they will be able to make their own decisons about accepting the money or not. I wish I had had an uncle like you.

Would this offend you?
by Disillusioned Lost-Lamb ini am remaining "in" for the time being, for my family, so with that said.... i fear my niece (9) and nephew (6) will be assimilated into the borganization therefore i try to covertly undermine their indoctrination hoping that if they choose to be a witless it will be just that, their choice.
regardless of their path, i know my sister and bil will not plan anything for their children's futures, i don't want them to needlessly struggle because they never got the opportunities a normal child wouldve and i believe that, in or out, a higher education at least gives them a chance, i was thinking of secretly starting a small college fund for each of them.. what do you think?
would any of you parents be offended by this?

The Congregation just paid flowers and other expensive for the PO COBE who died two weeks ago?
by life is to short ini have never in my whole life heard of this being done but at my husband's hall they just asked the congregation to pay about $250.00 to help with the cost of the dinner after the memorial and for flowers.. i was a jw for over 45 years and i have never heard of this.
when my parents died who had been jw's for years i felt lucky fortunate to even be able to use the kingdom hall for their memorial.
i am just speechless at them giving money.

LongHairGal, I think I would tell them to go the HELL to their face and get df'd all over again!
LITS, I am so sorry you were treated so badly. I know they can be real jerks and so can their wives. I would have sat down an cried. I cried when my boss yelled an me and he felt so bad. I am not the nice girl I once was, or
maybe the pushover I once was. I have found that if you push back, they back off. I hate it that it is that way but it is what it is. When my father was dying from lung ca I thought that all of us in the family could have a meal
together with him and my mother. My older sister told me "we cannot sit at meal with you and our brother because you are df'd. What would people say?" I answered "What people, we are all family here." She opened the door of
the room where we had been talking privatly and said "Homer (her husband) explain to her why we can't eat with her." I said "I don"t need for him to explain anything to me!" We all ate seperatly in the same house. A few weeks
later when only our real family was there (our JW stepsister and her son and dil were not there) she wanted us to cook dinner for us all and eat together. I was angry because she was just trying to impress our step sister and her
family. They just make me so angry at times; they surely do not act like Jesus would have behaved under the same circumstances. They are a poor excuse for Christans.

WOW! That's crazy. Is nurse's week a pagan holiday or does the Bible say that someone died during nurse's week back in th day? Who would have thought.

Kingdom Halls are being asked to take on debt to build Circuit Overseer's Retirement homes! It does not seem right to pay for flowers, I don't recall ever seeing this take place either. Was he part of the "in crowd", who lead a brilliantly exemplary life? The Society is creating more bitterness, by having the elders beg for money for "Traveling Brother's Rest home Kingdom Hall Homes.
The Traveling Brothers deserve the same retiremment plan they insisted the life-time pioneers brothers and sisters to accept. Why burden the congregation any further, I would rather have helped missonaries who served in a foriegn field, not little princes whose meals, expenses, cars, lodging and cash was assured. Let them return to Bethel, have Bethel use their funds to pay for their own middle managers!
Apotheosis, I agree with you, usually those who have money or are in the "in crowd" are favored over those not "in" or don't have money. Dealing with this economic downturn is hard enough for most people, they
should not be asked to support the retirement of anyone else but themselves.

ABibleStudent, Yes, send your sister a card, she would appreciate it. Happy Nurses week to you, Found Sheep. As you said, it's not for everyone. Sometimes I think to myself "what a crazy way to earn a living" but
then I think of the patients who depend on us for their care. I am an Oncology nurse and we tend to see our patients come to the hospital over and over. We usually see them through their initial diagnosis and, if the
treatments don't get rid of the cancer, we see them to the end of their life. We hope and cry with them and their families. It is a stressful job as we tire of seeing people die, especially the young ones. Then, there's the
JWs who refuse the blood transfusions needed after chemotherapy. It's a shame and it has a great affect, detrimental, on those whose job it is to help keep them alive. Anyway, Happy Nurses week to all nurses.

Would you sacrifice yourself to save other people?

I gladly would die a heros death, because it beats being old, and dying a slow death in a hospital with a kbag.
My sentiments exactly. I have told my children that I never want a feeding tube. If I can't drink my wine everyday through my mouth, I just won't have anything. There is a time to die and a time to live. I don't want a
slow death either.

BGB, I wish I had been as smart as you, but No! I always wondered how the F/D slave knew everything God wanted us to do but never questioned them. I was practically an born-in. I was about 4 when we left the
Catholic Church for the"TRUTH." My younger brother was like you. He was df'd at the age of 17 in about 1962. The JC forced him to decide between his worldy friends and the organization. He chose his friends.
I admire your mother and the strength she showed leaving her life. It's a tough decision to make. I am happy to welcome you and to read your story. I am so encourged by the young people who are brave enough to
not get sucked into this organizatin even if they are born-ins. You all give me hope for the future.Glad to know you don't put up with the nonsense the organization is trying to make everyone enduree
