WT goofie phrases.
by Pepper ini used to get into trouble for making light of the these phrases that some elders have told me are to be used only gods people.
lol that you all may know maybe:.
"well, brother that is very "commendable," just before the meeting ends the po says to those in attendance "brothers the time left is reduced," i once heard a co say to those seated during one of his talks "well now, we don't want to die at armageddon now do we, well of course not.

Grandparents
by Granny Linda inhappy holiday, everyone.. i just wanted to say that being a grandparent is one of the greatest joy's.
i know there are other grandparents posting on this board who are proud of their offspring, too.. gosh, for all those lost years of having been raised jw - not really getting to know my maternal grandparents except through the eyes of an emotional jw.
sheeezzzzz.

Was it normal to have so many meetings?
by JH inhow many meetings a week, do you think we should have had in order to be reasonable and not overdone?
maybe 30 or 40 years ago, when woman didnt work, or when life was a little easier, that all these meetings every 2 days was ok, but today with life being so stressful, and with all the time it takes commuting, is it normal to still have so many meetings.
nothing changed in the last 50 years as far as meetings go.

current or recent jw's? especially elders.... what
by surferdude inwhat were or are the qualifications for certain "responsibilities" around the hall?
our hall literally has only ms or elders --- attending, doing stage set up, handling book counter/service desk, and reading wt and closing the service meeting with song and prayer.... the only exception is the young son of a high ranking elder at our hall... they put the restrictions that a ms has to meet on these activities, i am regular, but not active enough in the service although i assured them i was "doing the best i could" (3 - 5 hours a month) but they acted like that was terrible.... we had a heated discussion for 30 minutes.... .

In the halls I attended, there also were a large number of elders and MS. Typically, they were assigned all the duties as they had already "reached out" and were now able to be "rewarded" with "priveleges". In other halls lacking in so many servants, the elder body would next look to select those who might appear to be reaching out. Thus, the standards could be lowered because of need and availability. The WTS would "prefer" that all duties be handled by "qualified" publishers. The definition of qualified is subject to interpretation. This is all before nepotism is factored in. I've seen "qualified" 12 year old kids handling mikes, seating people, and doing sound in some congregations.

Why did YOU want to live forever??
by Scully inwhat was it about living forever that appealed to you when you were a jw?.
was it the idea that you'd have all the time in the world to do whatever you wanted to do?
were you thinking about travelling the world and seeing it all transformed into a paradise?

Should local KH change its name?
by badboy inmy local kh is called fort hill,a very milistaric name.. any suggestions, what they should call the kh instead?.
they can't call it after the estate(winklebury) because it has milistaric/pagan connections!.
neither basingstoke, because it is named after a man, and that would b creature worship!.

If You're No Longer An Elder Or M.S.-- You're Zero
by minimus inone of the most interesting things about no longer being a m.s.
or elder is that when the circuit overseer comes around to visit, no mention is ever made of the person.
it's like they never even existed!

Good point Minimus...in many congregations when one "steps aside" the "friends" really don't know how to take it...many feel something is wrong...like you've contracted some disease and they don't want any part of it...others, too"shy" to ask what happened...they'd rather wait to get the scoop in the rumor mill shortly rather than approach you...even the other elders don't really know how to act and consider you in you new "fallen" position...It's like you've fallen off the "Celestial Chariot" and now must fend for yourself...very little thanks from anyone despite years of "service" in many people's behalf (very very sad). Many of couse (like myself) are just manuevering for the door!. Stepping aside is just a first step...The CO fagetabouit!!...he could care less...there's too many other issues in his face...you're no longer a commendable example...
