Don't lump Vancouver in with the rest of western Washington! Yuck. From Olympia south it's just yuck in my opinion. My mother-in-law lives in Castle Rock (that little town at the base of Mt St Helens), I'd much rather get stopped by a cop in Seattle than Castle Rock or Vancouver or anywhere in between.
We are alot friendlier here in Edmonds.

i dont know if anyone else has noticed the alarming number of jws who claim to suffer from chronic fatigue syndrone,i mean hear in cornwall there tend to be several sufferers in every congregation,outside the jws out of the many people i know i dont know anyone,although there are obviosly many outside the jws who suffer this illness,percentage wise it seems that jws have a much,much larger occorance of the illness.. for example my brother in law has not worked and been living on invalidity benefits for more than 10 years since his mid twenties,his brother is also in the same boat, an m.e sufferer.. i wonder if anyone has looked into this a bit more?

The environmental allergy is the perfect excuse for a witness. It's almost always women who have it though. In the local hall there is an elder's wife who would have to be helped out almost every time she came to the meeting, she rarely went. We all knew she was sensitive to the smells, etc. She stayed home from the meeting one day and someone dropped in on her to find her painting! I just saw her a couple of days ago driving a new car. I've run into her at the mall numerous times. Those are the smelliest things around. Paint, new car, mall smells!

one of the best histories of jehovah's witnesses is the book _a people for his name_ by timothy white, published by vantage press in 1967. the book had a very small printing and as far as i know was never republished.
at the time of its writing the author was a jw in good standing.
m. james penton gives white high marks in _apocalypse delayed_.
My husband borrowed that book from a friend but it was just copied on a copier. Have you a real copy? Any idea how to get one? He'd love to have one.

well, i did it.. it's official and i'm relieved.. the elders wanted to try talking to me once again, but after awhile it was obvious that they were only interested in changing my thoughts not answering any questions.
so, i just calmly asked if i could disassociate myself.
they acted stunned and they got tears in their eyes, but i told them that i had already grieved and was ready to move on with life.
Good for you pierced angel! I'm sure if the elders had ever bothered to visit with us we would have done the same thing. Whether or not someone has been DA'd or DF'd or otherwise "official ex-jw", just leaving the organization takes courage and makes you a better person.

back in my days of dubdom, some raw recruit would often relate to the assembled multitude his/her story of how his/her life was a mess when - bingo!
a chance encounter led them straight into the 'trooth', and hey look at me everyone, i'm living proof it's the troof!.
I have heard those same stories Running Man, I always wondered why the NWT was under the bed.

in my never-ending task of trying to get my niece out of jws clutches, i have good news.
just a brief history.
my lifetime jw mom raised my niece from the age of 9 due to my sister's alcohol and drug abuse.
That is just the best news. You must be so happy. It is so exciting when a much loved family member leaves the borg.

Great stories! My mom always put a sign on the door that said we didn't celebrate halloween. Problem was, most of the kids were too young to read it so one year my little brother decides to write the sign phonetically. It was a riot but it just made us all look like stupid JWs who don't know how to spell on top of everything else!
We had tons of trick-or-treaters tonight! I covered all our driveway lights with jack o'lanterns(10) and had two more lit on the porch. I am getting pretty good at carving pumpkins. I took the kids out while the Prince handed out candy. We went through seven bags! I couldn't believe how many kids came by. Little Prince and Princess were a totally wiped out Pikachu and Snow White. What fun! Can't wait for next year.

Never heard of that here on the west coast! I have a friend in Dover, NH where the whole town goes trick or treating a couple nights before the 31st. How weird is that???

well, a post on the good ol days got me thinking about the vehicles people drive and why.
in the jws, a vehicle had to be appropriate for service, four doors, holding at least five.
i remember back in 1978 i bought an mgb and the brothers had a fit (hehe), i was selfish, etc.,.
"sigh" a '99 Toyota Sienna...minivan, at least it has leather! I have two kids and it's rated the safest. The prince was sad to sell the Land Cruiser but it had to be done.
