for married people only
by teejay inthere's a running debate i have going with my wife.
i have the opinion that it is very possible for married people to have friends of the opposite sex without the idea of a sexual encounter entering into the picture.
she disagrees, saying that once you're married, the marriage mate should be enough to offer you all you need in the way of companionship, conversation,etc.. let's say you're running an errand at the mall and happen to see someone of the opposite sex that you have known for years (your mate knows/doesn't know them... doesn't matter) and you decide to grab a cup of coffee and have a two-hour chat.

My friend's husband stays with their kids on Fridays while she works. We frequently take our kids places together or just go to each others houses for the afternoon. Neither my friend or my husband have any problem with this. Maybe it helps to have four kids running around! I think if we were going off alone it would be different. I see nothing wrong with your coffee at the mall scenario either.

NEWS: I am publicly reproved over UN situation.
by badwillie inmy wife and i met with 3 elders for a "judicial hearing".. our crime: simply put, was talking.
i showed a friend the un website where the wts was listed as an ngo which then led to a 2 hour discussion of various doubts that we both have had.
my wife also showed a friend the un thing but also discussed with her a first hand account of a pedophile cover-up that we knew about in our former congregation.

Regarding the speculating on the part of the congregation, please make sure EVERYONE knows exactly why you were reproved. Some good can come from this.

Hi Andi,
I've thought about this alot. The events of 9/11 have changed my life, that's for sure. I think about what death would do to my family, my kids growing up without a dad, or mom, or the unthinkable, losing one of my kids. It happened to so many people on one day and it's too horrifying to comprehend. I canceled a trip I had planned for this weekend with my five year old son. We live in Seattle and were going to fly to New Hampshire for the weekend to visit some friends. I thought it would be good to have some one on one time with my son, and a nice trip too. I have had such a feeling of dread for the past month over this trip. Last week I was doing some of the bookkeeping for our plumbing company and trying to figure out how I could explain how it all works to my husband in case something happened to me. I realized I was going about everything I was doing with that thought in mind. I felt like I was preparing my own funeral. I finally called my friend and told her I just couldn't do it. I really felt like I was taking an unncessary risk with our lives. It cost me a bit to cancel but the peace of mind I have felt since canceling last Thursday was well worth every penny. Some may think it silly but the overall feeling of dread was too much to bear. Hopefully sometime in the near future I will feel comfortable enough to make a cross country trip again. Just not today.
So, I am grateful every day for a husband and best friend for the last 13plus years. I know how lucky I am to have him and I'm always amazed at what a good man I have.
I have two beautiful healthy children who surprise me daily with what comes out of their mouths. (good and bad
I'm grateful for my parents who raised us as witnesses, if they hadn't, I would not have the above. They have supported us in so many ways and they are good friends on top of everything.
I feel very lucky to have every member of my family (except grandma) out of the borg. My sister-in-law's recent departure was unexpected but so amazing for the whole family. All my neices and nephews are safe from the witness way of life.
Hope you are feeling better soon,

Since someone already brought up the World Series, those of us here in Seattle (where it is raining hard, thank you...not) would really love to see the Mariners win it. They have worked so hard this year and they seem to be really nice guys. Please? Isn't it their turn?

worst site for any Convention
by hillbilly inwhat do you consider the worst venues holding conventions?.
indoor?, outdoor?.

Hi RN, I was there in 1996, my very last convention. I was seven months pregnant and only went for Friday or Saturday afternoon. I only went to take my grandfather who couldn't drive so he could attend. The best part about it was knowing I wasn't going back! Felt like a foreigner.

Since I grew up in Seattle, I can't even compete in the "worst due to heat" category. We were lucky if it wasn't raining. Which brings me to my all time worst...Tacoma Dome in the rain. Miserable. If it was raining the whole place was wet. Wet coats, wet umbrellas, wet, wet, wet. Yuck! The worst part was, there was no place to go! It is right on I-5 with no restaurants or anything nearby. AWFUL! We thought it was great when it was sunny! Never got hot enough to come even close to passing out, and you could walk around in the sunshine during the break.
Glad to be done with all that.

Latest from New York Times Board
by hsmew in"i know this is not supposed to be funny, but i just can't help it.
have you seen their wacky propaganda?
i love the illustrations - the black & white drawings of heaven, where, in the elysian fields, amongst the tamed animal kingdom, all the men wear suits, ties, and hats, and the gals wear crinoline dresses and formal pumps, all of it just like something frozen in a time warp circa 1952.".
