  Where do you go for spiritual food?

  Good point Ozzie, I feel the same way. It took awhile for me to understand that though. It felt odd when we left, although the constant reading of various books and essays I found to be very helpful. Once I realized I didn't have to GO anywhere for food, I was fine with it.

  I'm glad some like Andi have found such happiness in a church. Obviously it works for her and makes her very happy. I could not do it. We refer to the church behind us as the "God box". So many feel like they have to go somewhere for the food. God doesn't live in the box, you can find him everywhere.

  Thanks everyone for your comments...even Tex with the liquor store comment. I'm sure it is most helpful to those who were asking.

  Kismet, I'm not offended! I have always thought Canadians were a patiotic bunch. I disagree with a lot of your claims and if you are proud of freezing your tongue to metal, well, we all have to be proud of something.

  if your first response was bless you then great you have broken the jw cult mentality,and you probally are either agnostic or just not sure of which way you are going.. if your response was god bless you then you also have broken the jw cult mentality,and are still a believer in a god.. if you had no response then you are still polluted by the brainwashing of the dubs.. i hope you passed the test !!

  one of my daughters in law works in admitting, at a local hospital, and her mother works there too.

  this week, one of the 'sisters' (audrey), from mom's congregation, was visiting someone at the hospital and dropped by to visit these gals.

  only the mother was there, and audrey started talking about how awful it is that my mother has to live with us now.

  my mother has been sick for a couple of months and undergoing a battery of tests, she is a jw.

  we live 3000 miles apart.

  well she just called and informed me that she had just received some bad news from her doctor this afternoon.

  I agree with Frenchy. You have to do what you can live with for the rest of your life. Maybe she felt she had to tell you to stay away since you are df'd, but what mother wouldn't want to see her daughter when she is in such poor health?

  I'd go, you do what you can live with.

  how many of you out there get a regular guilt trip from your parents or anyone for that matter?

  The only way they can cope with their own unhappiness is to say that we are obviously worse off. I always flash them a big smile to let them know, and when I run into someone who will actually speak to me I let them know we are all great! Never better! Freaks them out. They like to think we are miserable, just like you said to your mom's friend.

  It is about 50 and raining here in Edmonds. Totally sucks but should be sunny by Thursday!

  I received Charity

  i relate the following not to toot my own horn, but that of someone who really came through for me.. my wife and i have taken in three of my nieces five kids.

  the kids we are now caring for are ages 7 9 and 10. the niece was indigant and i believe she is on drugs.

  i know she was prostituting herself.

  I didn't actually answer the question myself. I was raised a witness and left at age 27. I don't really have a very strong spiritual need at this point in my life. Raising my children takes all the spare energy I can muster but I think in the future I will look more into spiritual things. I do think about it a lot and my husband and I discuss things regularly. After finding out my entire life structure was a lie, I felt very badly burned by religion. It has been over six years now and I have moved on but don't ever see myself joining up with any kind of organized group. I don't think you have to have a group to worship God, and I know that he does not require us to join anything. I teach my kids about God and we read bible stories. My son is five and views the bible as an authority. I have read him scriptures to show him he has to obey me and treat me with respect. I will also teach him that there is no man who can tell him he has to worship in a certain way to be saved. Both my children know that some people feel the need to go to a church to worship, but they think it is silly because they learn about him at home.

  When you first leave the witnesses you do a lot of research and reading. I still read a lot about many different teachings. Someday I will come to a conclusion I hope. In the meantime I treat others with respect, I try to teach my children to be good people but I don't beat myself up with guilt over anything. If God forgives us, he forgives us. I don't have to confess or do pennance or anything like that. I am not perfect.
