Overlapping Generation

the september 2015 broadcast had david splane explain matthew 24:34 “truly, i say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place”.

his explanation of this scripture was by means of a chart to indicate an overlapping generation.. .

no scripture was used to show the overlapping generation concept, and as a result it makes no sense.. to illustrate how crazy this concept is, look at the lyrics of the song my generation.. my generation.

Slimboyfat, I remember years ago "wondering with great wonder" how JWs and the vast majority of other dispy movements can ignore that Jesus by "this generation" spoke of his generation. I do remember very faintly how they talked of 1914 and this generation at the meetings. My mother refered to this as "all the speculation" and to my father such JW speculation was part of the divine mysteries that you only got insights on if you stayed close to the Light turned on by Russell😁😁

there was a 50 year gap between the failed dates of 1925 and 1975.. memories fade, people die, and who cares what was said 50 years ago.. most jw's now in the religion werent there when 1975 was a thing.

even my mother who was baptized in 1974 who i do remember speaking about it back in the day, can barely remember what the fuss was about.

for active jw's who are doing all there studying online now, its practically impossible to find any wt contemporary reference to 1975.. i read recently (sorry i cant source it right now) that at the time, even watchtower may have taken the view that even if they knew 1975 was wrong, the short term gains would far outstrip those who left leading to an overall net gain so it was a risk worth taking.

Removing Historic Monuments and Statues - Does the Term "Historical" Make it Right or Wrong?

after further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.

you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.

would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?

Both Russell and early Rutherford writes a lot about social injustices. Russell's Volume 4 the Battle of Armegeddon and Rutherford's Reconciliation have passages that are heavy on social indignation about the US socities of their day. Some have described Marxism as Millenianism without God. Later Rutherford and JW since were a lot more occupied with condemning the old world and saving their own souls. The dreams of Russellism were higher more idealistic.

romans 13 ,1-7 contrast with 2 cor.4 : 3-6 ,on the one hand the faithful are to be obedient to the superior authorities ,worldly government ,law enforcement ,etc, as its gods arrangement and to go against it is to go against god ?.

then 2 cor .4 : 3-6 states that the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one satan the devil and if you are obedient to that you are supporting satan`s system of things and going against gods arrangement ?.

what sort of mental gymnastics do you need to acquire to accept both of these scriptures and keep your sanity ?.

Huh atheists, I see No problem. Romans 13 deals with public Law and order, 2 Corinthians 4 the gospel. The issue here may be that JWs taught you have to be disobedient to the government on certain issues as part of you "Christian" JW duty 😁😁😁

It was always the few who stood up. The few who were burned at the stake while the crowd cheared. That is how humans work. We see in Nazi Germany and its Communist counterparts as well. Most people see and learn. It does not end well to oppose the strong hand who is willing to exercise great brutality. There would be no North Korea without great brutality and there would be no 8 million JW members without the system's willingness to execute great spiritual brutality.
