  when the new song book "sing praises to jehovah" was introduced from the great publishing company in 1984, it was clearly and frankly admitted (suprisingly) that some of the old songs had to be dropped due to the fact they were copied from other religions and some even infringed copyright in this regard.

  however, from an early age "we thank you jehovah" had always reminded me of "god save the queen" and this song was not dropped and continues to be regularly used down to this day.. i realise in later life that the two songs are indeed similar in a musical sense.

  you can almost play one song on top of the other in places and the starting chord structure is identical.. also, the two songs both seem to have a certain feeling of reverence which i am not sure is conjured up by the timing and the harmony alone or by the meaning the songs have in terms of their lyrics and use.. it turns out the british tune has been used many times over by different people and even by other countries, as european visitors to britain in the eighteenth century noticed the advantage of a country possessing such a recognised musical symbol - including germany, russia, switzerland and america (where use of the tune continued after independence).

  in the past i have sometimes felt like i have to be the 'bad guy', so to speak, because i need to lock or delete topics, deactivate people, try and stop fights and such like - basically, telling people off and not being 'nice'.. well, apart from the odd heated debate and harsh word (and disruptive 'visit') i have not really had a great deal to do for the past month or two and it has been very nice - a pleasure to serve.. so ... i thought i should say a 'thank you' instead of a "stop it!

  Well, my next thread is going to be about the STUPID dumb-ass Bolton Wanderers, the WORST soccer club in the WHOLE WORLD!!

  And how their goddamn useless helicopter pilot had to crash his chopper into some power lines and kill the owner, manager, and more tragically, John Bauldie, the editor and founder of Wanted Man and The Telegraph. The most fantastic Bob Dylan magazine ever produced.!!

  Internet warnings in the UK?

  i was recently visited by a jw ( he is a really nice old chap who has his own doubts) and he said 'internet' more times than you would think possible in a fairly short conversation.

  either he has been told something, or there have been extra warnings against the internet at circuit assembly, co talks etc.

  does anyone know if there have been extra warnings just lately?

  i received this in an email and i wondered what the figures would refelct if such a survey was done on the gb and the lawyers who now run the watchtower.. the pope.

  can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 300. employees and has the following statistics:.

  - 30 have been accused of spousal abuse.

  It is the 301 MP's in the Canadian Parliament. The same group that crank out hundreds of new laws designed to keep the rest of us in line.

  I remember my baptism, I was almost 13, I think, at the time. I have to say it was a bit of a letdown. I really felt like I was being "had".

  I got off the stage and was walking back to the dressing room, and I walked past my Mum and elder sister and they were both crying! I thought, What the...? What went through my head was something like "You are both stupid". I can't explain that but thats what happened and I remember that strange feeling to this day.

  I felt like they were getting their kicks off me getting baptised, like, its MY day, whats it to do with you?

  And another funny thing, I could never remember the date! A few months later and I could never remember the date.

  I wish you all the best with whatever you decide to do, I always enjoyed your posts on the forum.

  (Now if only you could do something about that WHINING!!!! :-))

  my eight year old daughter asked a very interesting and thought provoking question the other day and i thought i would ask it here.

  she asked "if you were allowed to do something bad, what would it be?

  " interestingly enough, both her and my son and me all picked the same thing, which was stealing.
