  this is sad news...my j-dub mom called me today to tell me that my cousin and her bf died in a apartment fire.

  the batteries in their smoke detector was not in...there were no batteries in their smoke dectators.

  her mom couldnt talk for two days.

  one of the biggest challenges for born-ins in finding their pre cult personality is that our entire personalities are based on the religion.

  there is no such thing as a pre cult personality for us.

  c.t russell was, they admit 90% wrong.. ditto for rutherford.. ditto for a lot in the intervening years, wrong and wrong again, so the need for "new light".. what makes them think that the 2012 version is any more right than the previous tripe ?.

  how can they know it won't all be dross tomorrow ?.

  "good morning i have come to bring you the truth from god's word that may not be the truth at all when the next wt comes out" would be a more honest presentation..

  I think it has to do with stubborn PRIDE. I imagine it is hard to admit you spent your life chasing rainbows and being made fool of. Maybe it's easier to just keep plugging along instead of moving on?

  I always thought th wt depiction of a happy family looked so fake. I never knew a jw family that was TRULY happy. Most of them were put-ons showing us all their BIG FACE while miserable at home.

  Theo Min School and Public Speaker Training Outdated...

  i used to think that the theocratic ministry school was extremely valuable.. and i think it does have it's value.. but i think public speaking has changed so dramatically the last few years.. last time i went to the kh... the public speakers were speaking at a very "low" level.. i think part of the thing the current crop of religious speakers (like joel osteen, etc... they are so dynamic.. and even speakers like tony robbins.... i think the style of speaking for witness speakers has become old school.. granted - yes... they have an audience that is "obligated" to listen to them.

  but they have not evolved at all as public speakers - and probably is getting worse.. most public speakers aren't glued to an outline.... just a thought.... .

  In my experience, the WT has always been critical of anyone who puts any real feeling into the way they present their material. I can still remember brothers visiting from other congregations being SCOLDED by the local elders for raising their voices or being too emphatic. But what can one expect from closed minded numb-nutted fools who told us that the Washtowel and Asleep magazines were, "THE NEW SCROLLS" to be used in the new order.

  the other thread with this name in the title made me think of it again.. i know the witnesses used to say this - and for sure, there are other religions that think this as well.. the fundy-baptist preacher that my sister got to do my fathers funeral made a big deal of it during the service - (why, i cannot fathom...).. so, can some kind scholar here give us a short course in why this particular star formation is so most holy?.

  Cheap Valentine gifts......are some boyfriends just loosers?

  i know guys who work so they have some money.

  but only buy their partner of 3 years the token $12 dollar single rose for valentines....other partners have given teddy bear $50 plus a nice card $5 and box of roses $60.. so come on guys why soooo cheap!!!

  i would be toooo embarrased to give that to my girl who treats me sooo nice..

  I think it depends on the way the gifter feels about the recipient. AND...How many Valentines one is givng gifts to. If I have a couple of hundred extra bucks and twelve valentines I need to divvy it up by. It makes more sense to give each one a single rose....LOL
