Covid Vx likened to Jesus ransom
by KerryKing inthis morning i decided to log into the local cong meeting on zoom, during the public talk the speaker likened the covid vx to jesus ransom sacrifice, saying that those who didn't avail of the vx, the 'anti vaxxers', are just like people who refuse to put faith in jesus.. i felt sick, knowing my unvxed but active jw parents were sitting there, i logged off immediately.
surely such talk is pure blasphemy or am i just over reacting?!.
i appreciate your thoughts, it will hopefully help me to approach my jw family with facts and logic, i'm praying they wake up fully and 'get out of her', i know they have reservations that's why they refused the vx..

The WT surprisingly admonished following the guidance of the consensus medical profession for the benefit of all. Unsurprisingly, they used cultish language and coercion to accomplish that. I couldn't suffer through that whole video but in the parts I did hear, they repeatedly called the choice to vaccinate a personal one. Yes, I know how that works in a cultlike setting. Fact is they did listen to the best medical advice available and endorsed that, rather than imagine they had some special insight from God on the matter.
If they had been a mail or TV based ministry, they may not have been so vigorous, who knows??

Nice video. It's always interesting to hear someone come to the same conclusions but from a slightly different angle.

How, ironic that as the WT slowly evolves toward a mainstream church with an eye to acting responsibly toward its members, some have found in this progress, a cause for complaint. The church's effort for acceptance in Europe and elsewhere have resulted in positive change. Less isolation, less unnecessary loss of life and liberty. Pointing out that there is still much room for improvement can be done without becoming alike the fringe science proponents and distorters of fact that shaped and identified the church we left.

Ken and Barbie
by peacefulpete inforgive the insensitivity of this but does the wt imagine the "resurrected" bodies of the dead will have useless genitalia?
or will the humans 2.0 have the smooth appearance of a ken doll or the nipple-less breasts of a barbie.
any breasts at all?

The official teaching is that the "resurrected" dead people will "not be married" (be sexual beings) but rather be "like the angels in heaven". Yes, that likely was meant to mean they would be spirits, but the WT interprets it to mean formerly sexual humans would be recreated to life on earth without the desire or ability to reproduce. I've been out for 20+ years so unless something changed, that is the teaching.

JWLITE
by Teddnzo ineven elders can be part of the new jw lite brigade these days.
they don’t need to go on door to door anymore and there is no requirement for anything really.. taking meeting parts is all dead easy you could turn up on the day with zero preparation because it’s all in the meeting workbook.. quarterly elders meetings are just old men having a good old natter just like old men do down the pub.. congregations could be likened to pubs or bars these days just without the drinks, those come at other times.. no need for territory maps, these almost went away with covid letter writing now they are extremely slow getting finished as those who still go door to door only do ten mins.. you could even voice your questions these days about things the gb say and then just say “we can’t be dogmatic we just don’t know”.
i predict they will say this about 1914 soon..

Pascal was a clever man, but his 'wager' was really just a distortion, misapplication of cost/benefit analysis.
I wear a seat belt because, though unlikely, in the event of an accident, seatbelts have been demonstrated to offer some protection. Without those conditions I would be credulous to wear seatbelts.
If for instance, my mother told me that carrying a St. Christopher medal would protect me in an accident. Pascal would suggest it is logical to carry it. Many people do just that, rationalizing that is not worth the risk not to carry one. They are not being logical; they are afraid and intellectually lazy.
Pascals, wager cannot be applied to the myriad of contradicting supernatural claims of mystics and gurus. It fails to analyze the credibility or accuracy of claims made. It merely assumes the possibility of value without making an intellectually honest assessment of it. As such the 'wager' applies equally to every supernatural claim.
Those who reason that Pascal's wager compels them to be a JW, had better consider the wager equally suggests they ought be practicing Hindu or Muslim, or Branch Davidian etc. In fact the wager suggests we do them all.

Did Charles Taze Russell die a broken man?
by Vanderhoven7 inhis 1914 predictions failed...but did he succumb to depression as a result?.

He was idolized to the end. Had he lived long enough for Rutherford to show his ambitions and seen his church split apart, he might have felt it was all slipping away. But it seems that he was delusional and self-aggrandizing to his death.
