Who raised Jesus from the dead?
by Blotty ini have seen arguments surrounding jesus' resurrection being proof of "the trinity" - now while in some cases it's a good argument the evidence for it remains very weak.
(bible quotes are from the nwt but other bibles are referenced, use whichever you please) this following version of it is a good example.. "the bible indicates that all [persons] of the trinity was involved in jesus’ resurrection.
galatians[1:1] says that the father raised jesus from the dead.

Never mind the issue of human sacrifice supposedly being detested by the God of the Bible. It's why many early Christians did not accept the concept. They saw the death (on earth or in vision?) as a divine tragedy, of the physical vs. spirit worlds.

The question has been argued for 2000 years folks. That, and what happened to the body, did Jesus' body come to life or not? Solutions are only limited by imagination.
Further, the resurrection stories are impossible to reconcile with each other.

non US folks and pumpkin pie
by carla insorry, i didn't know how to classify this- on some cooking boards i am on i came across how some do not understand pumpkin pie at all, particularly down under.
there was a whole thread about picking up libby's pumpkin pie filling (and the expense) and then came the subject of vegemite which does not sound good to me but can't say as i have never had it.
with all the sugar and spices what is not to like about it?

Marmite and vegemite are awful. Sorry. An acquired taste no doubt. I made a pie using cantaloupe (musk melon) first cousins to squash you know. Very nice. Any winter squash will work though butternut is my favorite. Pumpkin pie is traditional at thanksgiving as a new variety of squash the Indians shared with them.
Pecan pie is the best, but diabetic strychnine.

Struggling to find a purpose
by My Name is of No Consequence ini spent most of my life in the org.
we were taught that our purpose in life was to serve jehovah.
that never really made sense to me, but it was still a purpose to keep going.

Scottish National Party + Nazis
by BoogerMan inhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/scottish_national_party - "however, others in the party were explicitly pro-nazi.
hugh macdiarmid, who stood as an snp candidate in 1945, believed that the nazis were "less dangerous than our own government" and wrote a poem about the london blitz that included the line "i hardly care".
arthur donaldson, who went on to lead the party between 1961 and 1969, believed a nazi invasion would benefit scotland: "the government would leave the country and england's position would be absolutely hopeless, as poverty and famine would be their only reward for declaring war on germany.

As an American I shamefully know just about nothing about the politics over there. Slimboy,,what made you no longer support the SNP? I see on wiki they have some members resisting LGBTQ rights. Was that the issue? From what I read online the party has, unsurprisingly, evolved quite dramatically from WW2 days

Psalm 45 is a marriage song sung for a polygamist warring King marrying yet another princess of another people (Tyre of Phoenicia) . It is impossible to definitively identify the original intended King but many have sought to do that. (Interestingly Ahab's marriage to Jezebel has been persuasively argued.)
The Psalm has stirred the imagination of Jews and Christians alike. Jews connect it with the Messiah as did the writer of Hebrews, who of course saw Jesus in that role.
17Instead of thy fathers shall be thy sons,Whom thou shalt make princes in all the land. This line about the bride and groom having sons/ princes filling the role of their fathers, simply means inheriting the throne in a dynastic sense. The wildly ill fitting interpretation of the WT unfortunately isn't that much worse than the writer of Hebrews.
To identify this as a "prophecy" of Jesus should be offensive to Christians. Here we have a King disobediently marrying many foreign wives and the song revels in violence and extravagance.

I've given lots of opinions already, but just one more...
Many of the comments in this thread reflect changes in us and we assume the changes are with them.. Middle age , relationship loss, new job even. These alter our perspective. What worked for us before may not now. I like to think I outgrew the church but maybe we just grew apart. I knew the church held views that could not be defended honestly long before I left. It was a piece of the puzzle, sure, but what really got my goat (no pun intended) was the inability to talk freely with people. Distrust of me and inability to relate to them made continuing there impossible. I've grown a lot in understanding about the history of Christianity and science since then that confirms my decision, but it came down to the church's mold no longer fit me or I'd probably still be there burying my thoughts.
