Memorial Invitation official first day today

well it's that time of year again and the invitations to another pointless memorial aka reject jesus party is now in full swing.

even though it's only the first day i'm already more than sick of it!

this is the first year i am fully mentally awake for the memorial season, and honestly i'm so sick of it all!

In this week's book study, when talking about the Stoics, the brother said "The stoics believed in logic and reason. As Jehovah's Witnesses, we do not want to use logic" I think that was the most idiotic sentence said on the platform.

Experience I had with a JW that called my phone the other day...........................

the other day i had an experience over the phone with a jw that knows me and also she knows i am apostate, it was a coincindence on how this all happened, i had a talk with my roommate and told her that i want to move out of the house and find my own place so i be out on my own again, my roommate told me to put an add on craigslist to rent out the room in the house also i put my phone number out there on craigslist for anyone to call on the room, i all of a sudden get a call from this jw that i knew, she was looking for a room for her newhew(he is not in the jw religion) but right away she recognized who i was, this is how the phone conversation went:.

me: answer the phone, yes i have room for rent on craiglist (right away i recognize her and she recognizes me).

she: asking me about the room but also i can hear rudeness in her voice and at the same time i can hear in her tone of voice she is like uh-oh i am talking to an apostate so she is talking in a very careful way like i want to run away or get off this phone.

Common JW phrases that aren't in the Bible

i'm interested to know common phrases jehovah's witnesses use, but don't actually apear in the bible (even the nwt).

especially phrases most jw's would assume are in the bible.

e.g.. "paradise earth".

why i believe paul is a composite of numerous historical figures...

firstly im going to say paul didnt know jesus as a earthly person.

not once did he mention any fact that shows he knew about jesus being born in bethlehem, having a virgin mother, having apostles, dying for sins and so on.

the only writings where paul meats the apostles are basically in acts which many scholars argue was an attempt to merge the jesus story with that of paul.

I never trusted Paul's writings all because of this one verse.

1 Corthinians 7:25 ~ " Now concerning virgins I have no command from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who had mercy shown him by the Lord to be faithful. " (NWT)

The Governing Body loves to quote several verses afterwards to show that it's better to be a single person than a married person because you can "do more for Jehovah." They never once mention this previous verse. Paul admits his advice was not divine but was just his own opinion! Makes you wonder what else in his writings was just his opinion.

Also with all the shipwrecks, stonings and beatings he has been given, I wonder if he was "all there" during his later years.

Message at yesterdays assembly

a relative of mine was at the assembly yesterday and was appalled at the message givien before lunch:.

she heard them blast higher education...then warn to not miss meetings for work...then they gave the stupidest illustration i ever heard- they said that it is true that supporting your family is important...but not to give it too much importance and said it is like trying to cross a busy street.

they said if you see a car a long distance off it is ok to cross, if you are too careful you will never cross the street.

Last week at the assembly I attended, there was one brother I believe was 21 years old. His experience was that in high school, he said the exact same thing to his guidence counselor and that he wanted to "serve Jehovah [his] god more fully."

Also, has anybody noticed that Jehovah's Witnesses refer to Him, as "Jehovah, my God"? I thought if there was one God, he was for everybody.

More anti-apostate rhetoric from the Watchtower - are they running scared?

yes, the may 15th watchtower is now available for download from jw.org.. the final study article, on page 26, directs another salvo at apostates - and warns witnesses not to try arguing with them on the internet:.

indeed, we ought to move as far away from wrongdoing as possible and not see how close we can get to it without being overcome by sin.

for instance, we need to guard against succumbing to apostasy, a sin that would make us unfit to glorify god.

Today at the Circuit Assembly I went to, it seemed like the organization was trying to rid of certain doubts. They had a skit where one brother was encouraging another brother because he was tired of constant "new light". The discouraged brother brought up the whole "this generation will not pass away" bullshit. And the other brother encouraged him to rely on Jehovah. It seemed like a little nod toward apostates. The organization knows of their bullshit teachings are trying to rid doubts of those who are doubting or about to leave by making it seem like they're humble enough to admit them.

Missionary work--Not worth it?

how many have done missionary work?

usually, they urged the witlesses to go "where the need is greater" within their own country--often, those assignments are for a week, or several weeks.

however, when you go abroad, usually it is for a year or more.. and it is usually in the dumpy countries.

I remember talking to a brother doing work in Indonesia. He told me one mistake he made, because of learning a new language was saying that "144,000 apostates are going to heaven". He said the man at the door got real interested at that point. His wife corrected him though.

I'm well aware of the shunning policy. And that's why I know if I leave even before baptism, they won't talk to me. Plus, I found this a good opportunity to, in the same way Witnesses are encouraged to "plant seeds", I can plant seeds as well.

For example, when I was with my bible teacher in his Bethel room, I jokinly asked if I could have some beer though I was underage. He said he'll get me some when I'm older. Then I said Jesus drank wine and quoted John 6:53 ~ "Accordingly Jesus said to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, Unless YOU eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, YOU have no life in yourselves".

I do this constantly. But at the very least, I'm not afraid of being disfellowshipped if it comes to it. I'll just enjoy my own minstry, meanwhile.

I'm still new to this site so no one really knows my "story". I can't say it's as long as everybody else's but I do have a story. But to be honest, I did love the religion and did strive my hardest from the beginning to study and to become a witness because I thought that's what God wanted. I have no family in the organization whatsoever. I grew up Catholic. My family was actually opposed to my studying in the first place. First thing they told me, was actually "Don't get baptized." I'm not baptized but I did consider myself a witness and I'm the only Witness in the family.

I'm 2 months short of turning 19 years old. To be honest, the congregation I'm in are actually quite different than others I visited and heard about. It has a nice mix of people in age, ethnicities, backgrounds, etc. We all hang out pretty frequently, have a good time, I tell my 'apostate jokes' (subtly try to get their minds going), everybody laughs. Can't say there's a whole lot of trouble in the congregation. They're not really strangers (but I'm not really baptized or disfellowedshipped so what do I know).

But really, I think why I'm still in it is because I'm just afraid of losing 2 of my closests friends. I knew them in high school, before studying. They were always different. I'm not sure if right now is the best time to tell my story because they affected my life in a big way but they were different to me than other people. Plus my bible teacher. He's about 8 years older than me but me and him are like brothers. It's that type of friendship where first thing we do when we see each other is hurl insults. The elders see it as normal now. And even though we fight a lot, he helped me through a lot of stuff, not just with organizations stuff but as a friend. We constantly joke around, fight (sometimes even physically), taught me, been there for me and in whatever he's like my big brother.

So that's why I'm still here. I could lose contact with my congregation, that's fine. But losing those 3 people would hurt. But you are right Zid. I have no excuse. Not when everybody else has more worries and went through more trials than me. And I guess I'm pretty lucky or blessed.
