He sounds like what Ray Franz would call a "captive of the concept."

Has Robert Ciranko replaced Don Adams as president of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania ?
by EdenOne inrobert ciranko has been a "helper" of the governing body in the writing department.. don adams (born 1925, presumably 91 years old now) has been president of the wtbts since 2000. .
however, in recent official posts (april 2016), robert ciranko is identified as "president of the watch tower".
does anybody know what happened and if this is an official change?.

Bethel outing :)
by sp74bb inby reliable sources, bethel us has recorded in 3 years:.
- 80 "out of the closet" confirmed.
- 200 departures requested by bethelites, where same reason is suspected.. - 20 censured ones "returning to the flock".

Of course, this has some historical precedence. This occurred in the last 60's or early 70's didn't it?

Wild speculation / fearless prediction: how to (continue to) ratchet up the flock's fear
by sir82 ini've been thinking: what with all the bunker videos at the rc, instilling fear and paranoia and excitement among the masses, what could the gb do as a follow-up?
how do they feed the flame?.
how about identifying the "king of the north"?.
-
Londo111
I agree.
As a JW, raised in the years when the "Soviet Bloc of nations" was the King of the North, I assumed that Russia was still somehow the King of the North.
An email my father sent me last year pretty much shows older JWs still have this mindset.
I'm guessing the only reason that the Watchtower became vague in this teaching in the Daniel book is because JWs became legal in Russia. They didn't want to poke the bear.

That made a fascinating read.
It looks like Sirhan Sirhan explored many different religions and denominations.

Bethel downsizing is still coming
by dropoffyourkeylee ini spoke with a bethelite (non-us) last week who says that a 20-25% downsize is coming at their bethel in the fall of 2016. this is in addition to the cutbacks of 2015. more will be sent out 'to the field'..

What I meant is after 2016...not layoffs as part of the current migration to Warwick. The other upstate facilities seem redundant as things rebrand from print to video and internet. -

JW Witnessing Trolleys. To approach or ignore what is your preference and why?
by KateWild ini saw two brothers this morning next to the main train station in liverpool city centre this morning.
they were not actively approaching anyone.
what i found strange was that they were from a cong that has different territory, so i don't know why they were there.. anyway i knew them both, and they know i was df'd, i was in my car and couldn't park up for a chat, but i did beep and wave to them as i drove passed and they waved back.

Perhaps it's my shyness, but I generally don't approach strangers and speak with them if I don't have to. Maybe a few years ago, but it's been years since I did door-to-door, street work, parking lots, phones...I'm out of practice in confronting strangers and telling them why they are wrong about something or another like I did when I was a JW.
I saw a cart in front of DMV last month...I said hello as I passed by, conducted my business inside, and then went to work. I didn't have much time to spare on them. Maybe one day I'll have the time and the mood will strike me and I will give them some food for thought.

Think for Yourself: Reform Judaism Uses JW Blood Issue For Shavuot
by David_Jay inas the jewish holy day of shavuot (pentecost) begins this weekend, the reform judaism site publishes an interesting article entitled "judaism teaches: question authority, think for yourself.".
the article employs a jewish doctor's recollection of a jw patient who refused blood and died as an example of how both religious traditions greatly differ on how they see and apply god's law.. shavuot is the day jews recall god's giving the law to israel.
the article is significant in that it demonstrates how jews see the giving of the law as a call to questioning authority, including divine revelation itself whereas the death of the jw patient is contrasted as a slavish interpretation that misses the point behind jewish scripture.. for more see the article at:.

And Acts 1:6 is not a get out of jail free card either...the apostles did not proclaim a false date, they simply asked a question...
