2 John 10
by What Now? injust looking for some rebuttals to 2 john 10, specifically when it comes to shunning family.
we essentially admitted to our families that we do not want to raise our kids as witnesses and do not believe what jehovah's witnesses teach.
predictably, they use 2 john 10 to justify shunning us, specifically the portion of the verse where it says "if anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your homes or say a greeting to him".. since we are apostates (according to the jw definition), and no longer "bring this teaching", would our family be correct in interpreting this verse to mean that they should shun us?.

I believe it matters more to the Watchtower organization that JWs believe a certain way than it does to the average Christian, who has freedom of thought, as to what hope they entertain in regards an eternal future.
However that said, many of the JW prooftexts for paradise earth are flimsy and a result of eisegesis, rather than exegesis. When one looks at the context, considers what the writer originally met and their mindset, it does not prove Watchtower interpretation.
For instance, in the original languages, the word some translations have for ‘earth’ basically means ‘land’. It can also mean ‘soil’, depending on the context. Did the writer mean ‘earth’ as in the planet as we conceive it? It seems unlikely.
Take Psalm 37:29…it can easily be translated as one translation does: “The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it permanently.” The word translated as ‘forever’ is olam, which really means an indefinite period of time. Is the passage and context talking about the eternal hope of individuals? Or is it rather talking about the righteous as a class?
Similarly, passages such as Isaiah 65, when viewed in context, are clearly about Judah and Jerusalem and the return from Exile and speaks about it in poetic language. In the passage, people still die of old age! The Watchtower does acknowledge this in the publications, but they talk about an “initial fulfillment” and a second, and sometimes third fulfillment. But where is the evidence for additional fulfillments?
It really comes down to interpretation of Bible texts. But whenever someone presents ‘prooftexts’, a person needs to ask if the interpretation of these is exegesis or eisegesis.

Freedom in admitting the truth...
by _Morpheus infor those that lurk or havnt decided to post yet.... living a lie is difficult.
nobody would likely disagree with that... many of us lived or are living the wt lie for the sake of friends or family.
it can eat at us and put us in situations where we frame half truths, try to find tactful way to avoid telling people what we really think.. there is great freedom in being able to admit truths.

Yes, for those undercover, the more power to you! I don't have the strength to hold my tongue for very long. Of course, freedom comes with a price and sometimes that price can be very, very high. -

I'm hoping someone does a synopsis. I've no stomach to watch. I found the Robbie judicial meeting agonizingly difficult to watch. -

Make your predictions!
by Coded Logic inthe more specific the better :) here are mine:.
i predict that within the next two to three years (2017-2018) we will start seeing negative numbers in growth.. i predict that within the next thirteen to fifteen years (2027-2030) the number of jws will be less than 4million.. and i predict that by the time the first person sets foot on mars there will already have been a major split in the organization with either one of the gb or a branch overseer starting a new religion..

It's a matter of time. Eventually the Watchtower religion will be no more...or at the very least, no more relevant than the other Bible Students groups. The question really is when that will be.
Since the massive downsizing announcements, it seems sooner than later. Growth has been stagnated for some time. I suspect donations have dropped over time. Leaders (elders) are becoming increasing hard to find.

Proportionally, there are very few JWs in India to the population and likely it would not be a source of donations. It is likely not worth the Watchtower’s time and easier to write off and concentrate on retaining membership where there is a higher concentration of JWs.

What I would like to see soon!
by John Aquila ini would like to see one or better two members of the governing body get disfellowshipped and they both go off to write books like ray franz exposing the cult to all the sexual scandals, the hidden agendas with the stock market investments, the lawsuits, the laying of long time bethel workers, hidden sins by the higher ups and all the other nasty skeletons in the watchtower closet..
what would be different today compared to rays time is that we now live in a social media world..
they would be invited to talk in the oprah winfrey show, ellen degeneres show, the view, dateline.

I find that when a person goes into cult mode, the cult personality is pretty universal, be they JW or Scientologist or some other cult. The cult personality can be pretty vicious. Of course, when it comes from strangers on the internet, I sit back and laugh because they don’t know me. It only hurts when it comes from someone I know.
