According to Jeremiah 25:11, the 70 years were the time the "nations will serve the king of Babylon". A time of servitude as vassal states, not of captivity in a foreign land.
Jeremiah 25:12 shows when the 70 years end. "when the seventy years are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon and his nation". Babylon was punished in 539 BC.
Jeremiah 27:7, 8 reiterates this, "All nations will serve him and his son and his grandson until the time for his land comes; then many nations and great kings will subjugate him. If, however, any nation or kingdom will not serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon or bow its neck under his yoke, I will punish that nation."
Jeremiah 27:11 shows that 70 years did not have to be one of captivity: "But if any nation will bow its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will let that nation remain in its own land to till it and to live there"
Jeremiah 29 was written to the Exiles who had already been taken captive under Jehoiachin. He tells them to settle down. That is why verse 10 says, “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place."
There would be no hope of return for the first or future waves of Exiles until the 70 Years elapsed first. Jeremiah is not talking about a 70 Years that would start at a future point, but a 70 Years that had already begun.
At this point, Jerusalem was not destroyed, nor did it have to be, provided it remain in servitude to Babylon during the 70 years.
Rather than reading a few verses, the real context comes from reading chapters 25 to 29. Only then does the 70 years have real context.

I hate the Watchtower but I really still hate the Trinity Jesus is NOT God!
by Witness 007 insome bibles use the term "worship" when refering to jesus...at times people did fall down and bow to him........this doesn't show he was god!
the greek term; proskeyneo, means to prostrate oneself, to bow down and show honour.
now, this was done for jehovah.....and his representatives....jesus israelite kings and priests....but for the honour of jehovah not as creature worship which even angels would refuse.. also i studied the non-biblical early church gospels which really does show a slow decline over 150 years, into the trinity as the watchtower claims...........although i still hate the watchtower society at least i learnt something that wasn't a lie..

Personally I lean toward Pantheism, but I don’t see Trinitarian or Arian teachings as something to “hate”. They are both theologies, both interesting in their own way… why get into a huff about it? What I find distasteful is dogmatism. We are finite…why are we claiming to know so much about the Infinite?
Of course, in Watchtower world, the Trinity for some reason seems to be doctrinal enemy #1. Usually the Watchtower caricature of the Trinity is really Modalism, something that Tertullian was arguing against when he formulated Trinitarian doctrine in his work Against Praxis. I do believe that the writer of John taught something akin to this, whereas the writers of other gospels had different views.

Alas, this misinformation will continue to be propagated by some who do not care about facts and fact-checking.
Another thing is...if Russell was a Mason...so what? I'm not sure this would change my opinion of him one way or another. He had so many verifiable failings, that even if true, being a Mason would be the least of the concerns.

What is missing in Watchtower using Jeremiah 29:10 as an isolated prooftext is the context. Jeremiah was writing to the Exiles who had been taken to Babylon 11 years before the destruction of Jerusalem. He was telling them to settle down, because they would not return until the 70 years (which had already begun) elapsed.

Watchtower is an apocalyptic cult. So yes, they are extremist. The Pew polls show that their adherents are the poorest and least educated. They also have the lowest retention rate. Likely more have died because of denial of blood transfusions than perished because of Jim Jones, David Koresh, and Heaven's Gate--many times over.
Watchtower enforces their teachings aggressively, killing without committing outright violence.
And still a ban is not a solution. Taxing the organization into dissolution is.

What everyone has said here is 110 percent true.
And beside that (until if and when they wake up) JW women are fickle and not good life partners. If it's complicated now, it's only going to get more complicated as time goes on.
You deserve a person who recripicates your interest unconditionally. I am sure there are plenty of women out there who are not in a cult and can make you happier.
