full disclosure: i still don't believe in the bible's claims about the existence of the supernatural, even of jehovah god (i'm an atheist and a scientific/philosophical naturalist), but i am asking this question because recent events are starting to seem (to me) to fit well the description of some prophecies in the bible.

consider the following.. several hours ago (on 11-26-2021) as i was about to enter a local fred meyer store of my city (in suburb or small city in the metro area of a large city) a person i know told me that a moment earlier a person left the store in a hurry with a cart load up with unpaid merchandise (i think i was told it was groceries but i don't remember that for sure).

Things are not getting worse. In fact, they are getting better. That is not to say there aren't issues of concern that need to be addressed.

What has changed if that technology and culture have made it possible to be aware of all the things that are going on around the world almost instantaneously. As another poster replied, there have been more catastrophic events in mankind's history than what goes on now. Thanks to social media and 24 hour cable news networks who use the business model "red makes green" we are given an unhealthy diet of issues that are serious, but do not personally effect us or the area we live in. The result is a sense of "end of times," that just isn't true.

Diluted? The preaching work aka "door-to-door ministry" that was once the pride & joy of Jehovah's Witnesses is now an exercise in keeping the zombie walking. The photo and story by the Watchtower shared on its own website is proof of this.

Jesus taught his disciples and then sent them out to teach others. The key word here is "teach". That was the JW model.

Listen to the Governing Body
Obey the Governing Body
Refer the general public to the Governing Boy

Good question! We know that according to the Gospel Judas was appointed an Apostle by Jesus. After Jesus death and ascension, the book of Acts states that remaining 11 Apostles "cast lots" to decided between 2 possible replacements for Judas. Matthias was appointed as Judas' replacement.

All Bishops in the Catholic Church can trace their succession back to the 12 Apostles of Act chapter 1. The concept of the "Governing Body" is new even to the Watchtower relatively speaking. The 8 members of the Governing Body cannot trace their lineage back to the 12 Apostles. They can only trace their lineage back a few decades when the whole concept was created.

Step 1: End the monthly hours requirement to pioneer and encourage all to sign up.

Step 2: Re-instate the month hours requirement to pioneer.

Step 3: Openly look down on those who signed up to pioneer during the COVID-19 lockdown, but now cannot make the monthly hourly requirement to pioneer. Label such ones as "ungrateful" and "spiritually weak".

This article has no mention of Jehovah's Witnesses. This is a well know case of a serial child molester who was a Ministerial Servant at the time of his crimes. John Walsh of America's Most Wanted fame did an expose on this case on his most recent tv show. The show interviewed many of his victim's who were all children of Jehovah's Witnesses in his congregation.

T2 Trainspotting - bit disappointing

so, i saw t2 trainspotting (2017), the sequel to the 1996 original.. i love the original, so this film was a bit of a letdown.. first it had way too much nostalgia.

one particular scene, the one where spud, renton and sick boy return to the countryside to lay flowers in memory of tommy, is really touching.

but there are so many more nods back to the original film that it started to piss me off.. another thing: this is supposed to be twenty years later.

I saw the original in the theater when it came out. Then I read the book. Do read the book!

I would steer clear of the sequel movie.

The Apostle John, like Paul, was a zealot who believed the end would come in his lifetime. Revelations is a book using metaphor to describe the Roman Empire and how treated the nations it conquered.

How Strong Will Your Faith Be?

I think it is better is more accurate for the Watchtower to use the word "belief" instead of "faith". Faith is the letting go of preconceptions and accepting facts as you experience them. Belief is an idea you cling to, protect from facts, refuse to listen to anything that might prove the idea false.

"How Strong Will Your Belief Be?" seems to make more sense and is intellectually honest.
