3 years for me and yes i do..
This year will mark my 9th Christmas celebrated. However, I like to joke around and remind people that Christmas is actually the Norse holiday of Yule. I call it my "Yule Tree" and instead of a star as a topper of my tree I have put a Thor action figure.
I buy my family and a few close friends presents. I like the work Christmas lunch with the white elephant gift exchange. Christmas day it is enjoyable to watch my kids open their presents.

If memory serves, my father taught me that in order to be a Christian back in the 1st century you literally had to sell all your belongings and give the money to the congregation. In turn, you were provided a place to sleep and meals when you weren't out preaching. Christianity was literally a commune religion.

My avatar is the one given to me when I opened my account. I commented on it in one of my very first posts as being ironic as it is a purple triangle. That brought a lot of laughs from the users of this site. So I just kept it.
My username is just a play on "The Truth," which is also an ironic term used by a cult that is nothing of the sort.
so, yesterday whilst playing chess i had a discussion ranging widely topically in which my chess opponent asked me, "how do you determine whether any religion is good or bad since there is so much basic disagreement on interpretations of text?
"i replied this way:"does this particular god need to be treated like an adult, or as a spoiled child with a churlish temper?
that's a good place to start.
Did your god make you perfect, with the ability to bring honor to yourself though noble acts or did your god make you imperfect with no ability to do anything honorable but deserve death in his/her eyes?

today is my 34th birthday.
or, my 3rd birthday that i've actually acknowledged seeing as i was raised in the cult.. i woke up this morning to my 4yo running into my room and wishing me a "happy birthday daddy!".
i got a card from my ex-jw brother and i bought myself a birthday gift - a new 50mm lens for my nikon camera (photography is a hobby i took up since leaving the cult).. i dont know about you guys, but birthdays is still something i have to make a conscious effort to acknowledge and enjoy.

As a born-in Witness that only started celebrating birthdays and holidays in the past 7 years I find them to mean a lot. I enjoy receiving birthday greetings and gifts, but enjoy even more giving them. One of my happiest memories is the first time decorating the inside of our house for Christmas. My sons were probably 3 and 8. I remember the pure joy in their faces.

I know personal tax returns are protected law in the U.S., but not-for-profit organizations are having theirs published to inform the public of these organizations' finances. I checked out the names and telephone numbers on the full return. They're legit.
$1.4 billion U.S.! I bet that's mostly tied up in real estate.

these people like the courageous people who were on the a&e show this last week have showed me and thousands of others the power of how just one person or even a small group of people can effect many.. the power of just one person standing up and saying "this is not right" has changed history.
