1 Thess 5:21 comes to mind. However, the NWT has really watered it down with an expected poor translation.

Action Music (in movies) in the past VS the present
by TerryWalstrom inunderstanding action musicin the past vs the present______.
in the golden and silver ages of hollywood, composers with classical, romantic era training created action music out of thematic (tuneful) motifs.
these catchy 'tunes' were used as 'bricks' whilst the orchestral techniques of arranging and orchestration were the 'mortar' binding and building the overall structure towering above mere image+sound effects.the result gave an audience something i will call "an intellectual access" to onscreen "meaning" in the story.what's that?a "tune" is an organizing principle.a tune has a beginning, middle, and end.a tune "tells" us something.what remains is "the way it is spoken.

"Big Time Action Music" is the name of the Captain Kirk fight music from the original Star Trek. I always imagine that music during a fist fight.

Are You Proud of Your Country?
by snugglebunny insome people are of the opinion that it doesn't make any sense to be proud of one's nationality because we had nothing to do with where we were born.
the decision wasn't ours.
they opine that it's ludicrous to be proud of our countries' prior achievements if we had no part in those achievements because we weren't even around then.

I have a sense of pride in my country. There are so many beautiful nations with wonderful cultures and lifestyles. There are some that are not so much. I don't hold that against them unless they had a choice in the matter.
I do not appreciate when my own countrymen put our nation down. Especially for things that happened in the past. You cannot judge the past by today's standards.
If persons from other nations put my country down it doesn't bother me so much. Haters are going to hate.

Withdrawing community support in the congs
by purrpurr ini've noticed in the past 10 years that the social support that used to be available in the congs, a shoulder to cry on, elders to help with family/marriage issues these seem to have been purposely withdrawn.
counsel is even heard from the platform that the elders are not there to help people with their problems.. so first in the 80s-90s they take away the congregation get to getters and social events and now they seem to be going one step further in taking away the emotional support for people too.. this will take away an aspect that i'm sure was keeping alot of people in the borg, the community support.
if that's not there and its just about meetings and ministry how many will start to get their emotional support elsewhere?.

Days after graduating from high school my father was disfellowshipped. Two elders approached my mother. They told her that the only help they would give was to study with my siblings and take them out in field service.
Frankly, I do not know why my family had anything to do with the organization after that. My younger sister who was just starting high school was berated by the other Witness kids. They would often make statements like "You better make all the meetings or you'll end up like your dad."
The funny thing is, until this very day, my father has never been officially told why he was disfellowshipped, although it was always rumored for apostasy. The funny thing is, a year later he was reinstated.
Jehovah's Witnesses may be many things, but they are not Christian as they do not have the mind of Christ.

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter: “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He replied to him: “Yes, Lord, you know I have affection for you.” He said to him: “Feed my lambs.”+ 16 Again he said to him a second time: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He replied: “Yes, Lord, you know I have affection for you.” He said to him: “Shepherd my little sheep.”+ 17 He said to him a third time: “Simon son of John, do you have affection for me?” Peter became grieved that he asked him the third time: “Do you have affection for me?” So he said to him: “Lord, you are aware of all things; you know that I have affection for you.” Jesus said to him: “Feed my little sheep.+ 18 Most truly I say to you, when you were younger, you used to clothe yourself and walk about where you wanted. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and another man will clothe you and carry you where you do not wish.” 19 He said this to indicate by what sort of death he would glorify God. After he said this, he said to him: “Continue following me.”+ John 21:15-19 NWT

Yes. If you are asking in reference to the recent non-news issue dealing with Facebook selling off your info, it hasn't changed my social media habits at all. I put little to no info out on the interwebs about myself as I possibly can.

Do any of the 144,000 in heaven take part in the destruction at Armageddon?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini wondered about that when i heard garret loesch state that shortly before the tribulation the governing body would be taken up.
.
if this is the case, it seems like garret and the other seven would be there just in time to help out in the killing of billions.. i thought they used to say that some would survive armageddon before they were taken up..
-
truth_b_known
My understanding was that all 144,000 had to have died and been resurrected in heaven prior to Armageddon. The heavenly government as a whole would be responsible for murdering billions of innocent people just like Jehovah did with the Great Flood.
Did I say "murder"?

Beard update
by Coded Logic inso it's been over a month since i decided to grow a beard.
the mustache and chin have come in fuller than i ever imagined - while the cheeks leave me wondering if i'll ever grow enough hair to make it not look so wildly unkept and patchy (if anyone has any advice here it'd be much appreciated).
but in the mean time i'll give it another month and see how it goes.. .
