  Biblical Anachronisms in JW Literature

  in a recent post ffghost made a comment about how they're always inserting modern concepts into biblical narratives to make it relatable to jw's organization.

  here are some that come to mind:.

  - the capitalized term "governing body" when referring to the older men in jerusalem (really just another group of christians that paul outspokenly disagreed with and didn't look to for approval).

  That Jehovah has always had an appointed "organization".

  First, the nation of Israel - an entire monarchy of one ethnic group who were the sole worshippers of Jehovah was an organization.

  Second, the ragtag group of Jews who accepted Jesus and began Christianity was the next incarnation of Jehovah's appointed organization.

  Finally, a religious book publishing company established in the late 18th century in New York, NY, USA officially becomes Jehovah's appointed organization.

  There is nothing more important to Jehovah's Witnesses than His "organization". It is amazing how it went from a nation state to a group of door-to-door salesman.

  i see is that the vast majority of jws don't seem to understand what their religion actually teaches.. the more controversial or embarrassing doctrine - although still official doctrine that has never been rescinded - is just not talked about anymore in the magazines.

  It's the teachings that have nothing to do with the Bible that always bring the biggest shock value.

  • If a woman doesn't scream for help while she is being raped it means she consents and has committed fornication.
  • Demons made dinosaur bones to get people to believe in evolution.
  • If you are sick take and air bath, which includes jumping up and down.
  • Eternal life is dependent on loyalty to 8 men who are neither inspired of God or infallible.

  Work part time-- the biggest cause of strife is poverty
  More ignorant advice from those who live off the sweat of other's work.

  Rent, don't buy. All you are doing is paying the mortgage of the homeowner.

  Work part time. Less money and no benefits. No health insurance. No retirement.

  I remember very well that the Apostle Paul supported himself through the making and selling of tents. How many tents have the Governing Body made this week to earn their keep in their ivory tower?

  I recall hearing from time to time that brothers would do repair work on Kingdom Halls/Assembly Halls and then give an invoice to the Elders. Many times said invoice would be returned with a note that simply stated, "Thank you for your contribution."

  Imagine mailing the legal bill the Watchtower racked up and send it to all active Witnesses with a note that read, "Thank you for your contribution."

  Growing up the Book Study was a big deal. I always remembered hearing as a kid that one day we might only be able to meet in homes during the Great Tribulation. Conventions was the other big thing.

  Now all meetings have to be at a Kingdom Hall and Conventions are being held at Assembly Halls. Meanwhile, the super studio is being build so that no structure will be needed. All Watchtower properties can be sold for a profit.
