  i'm looking for wts quotations that contrast with ii timothy 3:15-16 whereby they downplay scripture.. here is one from way back..

  "...people cannot see the divine plan in studying the bible by itself...if he then lays them [scripture studies] aside and ignores them and goes to the bible alone, though he has understood his bible for ten years, our experience shows that within two years he goes into darkness.

  on the other hand, if he had merely read the scripture studies with their references, and had not read a page of the bible, as such, he would be in the light at the end of the two years, because he would have the light of the scriptures," (watchtower, sept. 15, 1910, p. 298).

  My own observation is that the JWs typically follow Russell's 1910 advice anyway. Very very few JWs read the Bible contiguously from front to back, or even any of the individual books from beginning to end. If they did, they would soon realize how wrong the JW theology is.

  This is a true statement. Reading the Bible cover to cover is an eye-opener. I did after I left the Witnesses. I cannot stomach reading anything outside the Gospels. I read Psalms and Proverbs. Reading David's prayer to Jehovah for the death of his enemies had my stomach turning.

  The state of Texas passed a law prohibiting the closure of religious buildings and services due to events such as COVID-19. The Watchtower cannot site being cooperative with secular authorities as the reason for cancelling in person meetings, assemblies, and conventions in Texas. So why keep the Kingdom Halls closed in Texas?

  Perhaps it is because the IRS, whom give the Watchtower their tax exempt status in the U.S., is a federal agency?

  I did notice there were certain Witnesses who seemed to take pleasure in finding fault in just about anything.

  Let's say a new movie was about to be released in theaters. There is a buzz going around the congregation about brothers and sisters planning a night out to see this movie. Brother Fault Finder would examine the movie (see the trailer or read the synopsis) and then go out of his way to find fault with it. Maybe even incorporate his opinion in an answer or part at a meeting, thus discouraging many from seeing the movie for fear or looking spiritually weak.

  This could be done for tv, movies, novels, musicians or songs, sports, etc. It could and was done.

  If there really was a Jesus and he is in heaven speaking as our mediator I would say "no." If acting and believing in an exact way were important there would be no room for error or interpretation in the Gospels. Most Christian doctrine comes from mean, especially Paul, in the New Testament.

  If God is love, the short answer is PIMOs are fine if they follow Jesus words.

  Can non JWs be witnesses in a committee meeting?

  i am not sure but i know where non jws have been brought in for a witness to a judicial meeting.

  what is the official policy on this?

  I recall an assembly or convention dramatization (or maybe one of these new JW videos for conventions) in which a young brother was in a judicial committee meeting for fornication. The story rolls out that he claims this "worldly" women seduced him. The elders tell this brother that they spoke to the woman and she claims the young brother was in the driver's seat for the whole affair.

  Does anyone else remember this dramatization?

  Why build a new movie studio when we are in the last part of the last part of the last day?

  How will the studio receive power? Is it just hooked up to the power grid or does it have a solar farm? If it is for use after Armageddon it better have a solar farm. If not, there is proof positive it is just a cash cow.

  Dune (1984) - er, yeah, lol

  so, i saw dune (1984) yesterday.

  i knew it wasn't gonna be great, but deary me.

  i'm not gonna lie - this film is not good, in fact it's laughably bad in places.. first, i'd like to know the thought process that went behind choosing david lynch to write/direct.

  This version of Dune was butchered down to fit the 2hr mark. I have seen the extended version. I even found a fan edit on YouTube that is pretty decent.

  I was about 10 when the film came out. I was captivated by it. I read the entire series after that.

  The SyFy network made a miniseries which I believe you can watch for free. They also followed it up with Children of Dune which combined books 2 & 3.

  I am looking forward to seeing the new movie. It appears to be following the book.

  The same thing I have against any religion that does the following:

  • Treat persons who are not members in a negative way
  • Shun those who leave the religion
  • Hold themselves out to be the one, true religion, superior to all others

  i see that marvel are introducing a gay captain america as dc announce the son of superman is bi-sexual.. whereas i don't give a hoot about a person's use of their genitalia as long as it is consensual and not with kids, i'm finding all this 'inclusivity' becoming a bit boring.. are dc and marvel just virtue signalling in the hopes of selling comics and not being set on fire by the antifa frauds?

  In short - yes.

  Many corporations are cashing in on this.

  According to a report from April, 2021 -

  3.5% of the U.S. population identifies as lesbian, gay, or bisexual while about 0.3% as transgender.

  Previously, comic books companies were cashing in on the racial virtue signaling by re-imagining comic book characters as racial minorities (minority based on U.S. population). So, it would only be par for the course that the business model would evolve to include the next victim group as we have become a society of victims versus oppressors. Those who prescribe to such ideology force everyone into one of these two groups and then those in the victim group compete over who is the bigger victim.

  I am not implying that people have not been victims due to their ethnicity (there is no race in Homo Sapiens other than Homo Sapiens. Follow the science.) or in the LGBTQ+ communities.

  I agree with you Punk of Nice - it has gotten to the point that the inclusivity has detracted from the story, which to me is actually demeaning to those whom these companies claim they are helping.
