how long did people worship zeus?
was it longer than christianity's 2000 years?.
most answers say this but they do vary..
PistolPete:
This is such a great topic. I think your second question is even better - how much longer will Christianity survive?
I believe if Christianity is going to survive it has to evolve. One of my favorite philosophers stated that Christianity has to give up on the doctrine of Sola Scriptura and admit that the Bible teaches positive philosophies to be practiced and not be literally interpreted. Those days are coming to an end.
We as a species have evolved in mind. We adopted rational thinking as early as 450 BCE. Christianity has to -
i think cops are getting a bum rap.
are there some cops who shouldn’t be cops?
are some over eager?
Why feel bad for the police. This has been going on for decades. The police is the victim of a system that they themselves helped to create. The system in a way is set up for the police to fail.
Why feel bad? That is like saying "Why have compassion for my fellow humans?" Police officers are aliens from Mars? Androids? They're human.
They train them to shoot to kill and when they do, well, they go to jail.
Police are trained to use deadly force to affect an arrest of serious felony offenses as outlined by the law. Firearms are deadly force because, not matter how you shoot someone, the risk of death or serious bodily injury is responsibly expect to happen.
Sometimes people don't comply because they don't understand what they have done wrong or why you are stopping them. Some police officers do a bad job of explaining the whys and hows.
In my 20+ years experience I have found that most people do understand. They just want to argue because they do not want to be held accountable. Even when explaining things in plain English they respond with "That's not right!" In other words, "I don't like that because I don't want to be held accountable."
If you want to fix the problem with policing, you need to take a step back and look at the structure. How many times have you heard a police chief talk about "only a few bad apples" but they do nothing to actively remove the bad apple (Police Union??) until it becomes politically or socially too hot.
If you want to fix the problem get to the root - systemic race based poverty and penalizing drug addiction. If generations of of people of a minority community lack education and employment opportunity while being surround by people who are living in excess, crime will happen. People suffering from addiction often resort to crime to feed their addiction. Instead of helping these people or government criminalizes this behavior and just incarcerates them. In addition, Police Unions get a bad rap for "protecting bad apples". The whole reason Police Unions started was because cops were used as pawns in elected officials personal vendettas. Local elected officials decided what laws to enforce and who was exempt from being held accountable. Being an honorable cop put one at risk for being fired for not being dirty. Just look at law enforcement agencies where cops are at-will employees and see the abuse they have to endure.
Why are they allowed to investigate themselves?
Law enforcement agencies are required to investigate their own officers for violations of agency policy and citizen complaints. Other agencies conduct investigations for crimes committed by police officers to make sure there is no conflict of interest.
Why does the camera stop working when the police is at fault and they refuse to release the footage to the public. A young girl was recently shot and the police promptly release the footage to show that the victim was at fault. That should be the standard approach to any type of incident that result in shoot at citizens. However, that is not often what happens.
Police are getting a bad rap now because of social media and smartphones which means more people are aware of when things go wrong.
Body cams and in-car video are tech - they do fail. My buddy's body cam failed. He was shot with a rifle. The bullet hit his body cam and ricocheted into his throat, killing him. They are also evidence. Publishing evidence prior to a criminal investigation being completed tends to undermine the investigation.
Social media and 24 hour cable news media is responsible for the bad rap police get as well as leftist, post modern ideology. There are over 500,000 law enforcement officers in America. Online news sources, social media, and 24 hour cable news inundate us with stories. One cop is all cops because no one is an individual anymore. We are all the group we get thrown into. Narratives are created to wrestle for control between groups. If the news were required to report on the activities of every cop in America everyday we would have perspective. Blood sells. Fear sells. Emotions are riled up to make sure reason and rationality go out the door.

Post Modernism does not allow for individuals. It mandates everyone be put into a group. Narrative is a group's attempt for control.
once again, watchtower doesn't want to respect our human rights.

I always thought it was interesting that the Watchtower always sang praises of itself because Jehovah's Witnesses have no clergy and lay classes. That is until there is interaction with the government. Then in low tones you will here it whispered that, for government purposes, elders are the clergy and have clergy privilege under the law.
so, the actions of cops have come under scrutiny in recent days, what with the trial of derek chauvin and the death of daunte wright.
i certainly hope justice is served in both those cases.. what is easy for people to forget, is just what police officers have to deal with on a regular basis, during their interactions with citizens.. here's a video breaking down one such interaction.. a car owner was driving his car but the tags weren't legally displayed.
cops wanted him to pull over but the driver continued driving for a mile and a half with a police car following with sirens and lights.
...there are a thousand traffic cameras that send citations all day every day.
Citations issued from traffic camera footage are not the same. That is why Red Light Cameras are being dismantled across America as they have been found to 1) are being used to fine people for a city's municipal code violation, not the State's traffic law, with the only penalty for not complying is being barred from re-registering your vehicle and 2) there are Constitutional issues with the whole scheme.
When the violator fails to appear in court or pay the fine that citation results in an Arrest Warrant being issued. I have yet to see a traffic camera show up at someone's doorstep to arrest someone for Failure to Appear.

A Day in the Life of a Police Officer in America - A Play
Police Officer: Sir, you're vehicle's expiration has expired. Please sign this citation stating you promise to appear before the court to answer the allegation of the offense in lieu of being arrested in placed in jail.
Driver: No. I did nothing wrong.
Police Officer: Sir, is their anything I can say or do to get you to sign this citation so I can release you on your own recognizance, that is to say, without paying bail?
Driver: No.
Police Officer: Sir, step out of the car. You are under arrest.
Driver: No. I am not being arrested. I did nothing wrong.
Police Officer: <Opens drivers door and places hand on driver to affect the physical arrest>
Driver: <Resists arrest and assaults officer to prevent arrest>
Police Officer: <Increases use of force to affect the arrest of the driver who is now committing the offenses of Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Police Officer>
Driver: <Starts vehicle, begins driving while dragging the police officer to his impending death>
Police Officer: <Affects the arrest of the driver for the offense of attempted Capitol Murder of a Police Officer by shooting and killing the driver>
Fringes of Society: That police officer just murdered that driver over an expired registration!
The End.
Everyone takes a bow. Showtimes daily.

Hindus admit bad was created by God. Good cannot exist without the bad. Evil is a Judeo-Christina concept.
something i've noticed is that marriage was the thing for those born before 2010. but today's culture of divorce laws slanted to favor women has forced men to think carefully before signing the marriage certificate.
most of my friends have no intentions of getting married.
all of them have gotten vasectomies, so there is no chance of being blamed for a pregnancy.
I watched the video in the original post. The video creator starts out on a good foot -
This is true. Happiness is an internal experience. We suffer from a lack of happiness when we believe that some person, some job, some hobby, some experience is going to fulfill us.
That being said, the video creator contradicts himself by stating that happiness comes from friends and hobbies.
The video creator is also correct in that a person has to make sacrifices when entering a committed relationship. Well, that is the definition of love - sacrifice of self for the other's benefit. I think that is where modern society starts to see trouble. I think we have to look at human history and the history of major to kind of get our bearings.
About 150,000 years ago modern human appeared on Earth. Humans were a hunter/gatherer society. It was an egalitarian society in that both men and women were equal. Both men and woman hunted and gathered food to survive.
Things changed when human turned into an agrarian society. This is where sperate roles for men and women first developed and then eventually came patriarchy. Men having natural upper body strength cultivated the earth while women bore children and handled the home. Add to that religion, primarily Abrahamic religions, and now the patriarchy is in full effect. It was acceptable for men to have multiple wives simultaneously. However, this produced 2 problems - 1) inheritance disputes and 2) violence due to women being treated as a resource and men with multiple wives being viewed as targets for men with none. So, that became no longer acceptable.
Marriage was about ensuring there was a male heir to inherit a man's estate. Women were not allowed to own property. Additionally, marriages where used to increase a families wealth or expand royalty's kingdom. The problem was there was often no romance in this arrangement and infidelity was the only way to satisfy that desire. Sex outside of marriage was prohibited by religion and sometimes even by law.
Then in the mid-18th century Europe we got the Romance Movement. This movement was seen in art, music, and literature. The ideology of Romance is that we all have that one special person out their that can satisfy every role and vice versa. Marrying for love was introduced and adopted. The problem is that romance is not love and the myth the Romance Movement produced skews reality.
Now jump forward to the mid to late 20th century. We got the women's liberation movement. Women realized that, like their ancestors, they aren't below men and do not need men. In addition, we as a race moved into a period of enlightenment and rationality. Religion and a fear of eternal damnation were no longer an issue. People accepted sex outside of marriage. Relationships were no longer about starting families (i.e. having children). Being married and not having children is widely accepted.
Laws involving marriage were adopted to support families and not marriage. Tax credits, employer provided insurance for spouse and children are just some examples of such laws. Then came divorce laws.
Divorce started becoming normalized is the latter quarter of the 20th century. Society was still looking through the lens of antiquated philosophies such as women cannot earn a living like men, a woman's place is in the home, and women are better suited for child rearing. So we got child support laws and alimony.
So, here we are in the first half of the 21st century. Does the legal institution of marriage make sense?
I like marriage. I love my wife. I like being a father and look forward to being a grandfather. I know that I am most content when spending my time doing things with my wife and children. I used to think my career would make me happy. I learned that is not true almost too late.
