Bringing Reproach on Jehovah's Name
by cofty inall my jw life i was reminded constantly about the importance of not bringing reproach on jehovah's name.
decisions on whether or not to disfellowship an individual often turned, not on the seriousness of the sin, but on whether the incident was public knowledge and had resulted in bad publicity for the congregation.
i recall a middle-aged lady being reported to the elders for shoplifting a sweet worth less than £1- and the elders' insistence that a judicial committee must be formed because the store manager and staff knew that she was a jw (i successfully argued that all she needed was support for her dreadful family life, but that's another story).

Excellent post Cofty!
Years ago a dear friend of mine had a mental breakdown of sorts and committed a crime. It was covered by the local news. While in jail awaiting trial he was told that his body of elders conducted a judicial committee and decided to disfellowship him. That's right! He was never contacted ahead of time. Those elders asked his father, an elder in another congregation, deliver the news to him. He was told they had no choice as so many people knew what he did.
Now the Watchtower neither confirms nor denies claims of child abuse in their organization. They just protect the corporate assets from reparations.

They Are Going To Start Clamping Down With Staying At Home - Local Needs + GB Update #4
by thedepressedsoul inmany of us have watched the gb #4 update.
most of us jumped for joy when they basically said that there will be no meeting in person for a long time to come.. one aspect we overlooked was how hard they hit home the "love of neighbor".
how this "love" is what makes a true christian and as a result our love for our neighbors will motivate us to stay at home.. well now they released a letter that is instructing all kh's to view this video during their local needs part.

I guess you no longer have to feign illness to miss a meeting. You can just claim your internet went out, which is probably more believable now that everyone is sheltering in place and sucking up bandwidth on their favorite streaming service. My internet goes out just about every time it rains and sometimes just because.

How Could We Have Been So Heartless?
by BluesBrother ini am addressing here those who, like me, spent decades in the organisation that we called “the truth”.
perhaps like me you were brought up in it from an early age.
looking back now i wonder that i could have been so heartless as to believe that the mass slaughter of billions of people was “good news”.

Right and wrong. Good and evil. These labels reflect social collective thought. Group subjective ideology. When the only people you surround yourself with are those who share the same group subjective ideology chances are you will go along with the herd.
The Euthyphro Dilemma asks: do the gods love good action because it is good, or is good action good because it is loved by the gods?
In the case of Jehovah's Witnesses it is no surprise that the later holds true for them. Anything Jehovah says, does, or wants is good because he loves it. Therefore right and wrong/good and evil do not apply to the thinking process of Jehovah's Witnesses. The only thing that matters is obeying Jehovah.
Case in point: Commandment VI of X - Thou Shalt Not Kill
It seems pretty simple. Don't kill. That is until later when Jehovah order seven separate nations to be destroyed.
When you ask one of Jehovah's Witnesses why they don't support military service in light of the fact that the nation of Israel had soldiers that fought many wars you get a response like: "That was righteous warfare. That was divine warfare. Jehovah commanded it."
So, in reality, Thou Shalt Not Kill is not a matter of morality. It is a matter of killing is fine when Jehovah orders it, but outside of that, don't do it.
Well, which is it? Is killing right or wrong? Is killing good or evil? It seems neither. If it is wrong or evil there would be no circumstances that it would be alright.
How about rape? Jehovah's Mosaic Law has a definitive answer to that; it depends. Was the woman a virgin or was she married? According to Deuteronomy 22:28-29 a man who rapes a virgin just has to pay the woman's father 50 pieces of silver and marry the woman. He can never divorce her. If the woman is married then you just kill the both of them.
To some up being a Jehovah's Witness: Do whatever the Watchtower tells you Jehovah wants. It beats everlasting death and you can live forever on Earth if you do. Right or wrong. Obey or die.

Is Anyone Happy That Police Forces Are Being Abolished or scut??
by minimus inin minneapolis, the city council has voted to abolish the police.. many cities want to either disband or defund the police.

"Defund the Police" according to protesters: www.mpd150.com
I agree that way too much has been asked of police in the United States. I agree that public mental health services have been severely undermined by a lack of funding. I agree that income inequality certainly plays a role in all of this (see: Gini Co-efficient and Crime).
However, there is a movement by radicals to literally tear down all institutions in the U.S. and rebuild them in their perceived Utopian dream. MPD150 is once example. They literally want no punishment for crime and no law enforcement.
Also the Camden County Police experiment is a failure.

Finklestein:
Minneapolis could contract with the Sheriff's Office for law enforcement service, but there is zero talk of this. Go to this website for your answer -

- George Floyd is killed cruelly and callously by Minneapolis Police Officer and fellow night club security officer Derek Chauvin. Chauvin is video recorded with his knee in Floyd's back while Floyd is handcuffed and proned out on the street.
- Black Lives Matter organizes protests in Minneapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, etc.
- Protesters call the incident proof of systemic racism and call for the defunding of police departments.
- The media tells us what "defund the police" means, but fails to ask the actual protesters what the mean by it (see MPD150)
- US Congress decides their needs to be police reform and drafts a bill to ban "choke holds".
Here are the facts to date:
There has been no evidence offered that Derek Chauvin Murdered George Floyd because Chauvin is a racist. A callous person who has no business being a police officer? Yes. Racist? No evidence to date. However, the narrative pushed is that this incident was definitely about race.
Major protests are held in the streets of urban centers that have the following in common -
- City and County elected officials are all Democrats
- City and County elected officials are primarily all black
- Police Chiefs/Commissioners are appointed by Democrats and are primarily black
- Most the States that these cities are in have governors that are also Democrats
- Most of these cities' police departments are made up of primarily minority races
Yet the protesters scream "Where is our Federal government is all this?" Fingers are pointed at the President and the majority Republican Senate.
State criminal laws fall under the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, often referred to as "States' Rights". The enforcement of State law is the responsibility of State and local law enforcement agencies. Laws and policies for the day-to-day operation of State and local law enforcement are set by:
- State Legislature
- County and City Councils
So taking this from the top...
A man is Murdered in Minneapolis, Minnesota by a Minneapolis Police Officers. The City of Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota has been governed by Democrats for decades. The State of Minnesota and the City Council of Minneapolis is responsible for the hiring of police officers and setting police policy. However, this mess needs to be fixed by the Federal government.
In addition, the media tells us that "Defund the Police" means reallocate tax funds from police departments to social services while protesters and their organizers tell us "Defund the Police means 'Abolish all enforcement of laws'."

John 5:28,29.
by Lost in the fog inwe used to use this scripture to show that there was going to be a future resurrection.
but recently i got to thinking about it.
if the apostle paul was right in saying that the righteous on death would be changed in the twinkling of an eye from earthly life to heavenly glory why would there be a future resurrection needed for the righteous?

The afterlife doctrine of the Israelites changed over time. It was affected by the surrounding nations. At first, the Israelites did not believe in an afterlife. Obedience to YHWH was rewarded by a happy, prosperous life. You may recall the Sadducees did not believe in a resurrection.
Later they changed their beliefs and adopted the doctrine that in the future all the faithful would be brought to life on Earth in fleshly bodies. You may remember that the Sadducees tried to trick Jesus in regards to their question about a woman who was married to all seven brothers. They asked Jesus which brother would be married to the woman after they were all resurrected.

I am actually shocked that the Watchtower has put other translations of the Bible on their website. I recently read the entire New Testament in the NIV translation. Very eye opening in regards to what the Bible says versus the Watchtower's version of the Bible.

Being raised as a Witness with a father who fell for every conspiracy out there, I am sure you are right. I can already hear it now - "They are talking about a cashless society. It's the mark of the beast of Revelation!"
