Still dont get the friggin birthdays
by nowawake14 ini have read extensively about the origins of birthdays, and i still don't get it.
but it's not what it means today.. even wedding veils were used to ward off the "evil eye".
but it's not what it means today.

Like so many of the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses, their explanation of their beliefs held in regards to celebrating birthdays crumbles quickly.
1) They immediately admit there is no Biblical prohibition against it.
2) They then draw a conclusion based on the only two birthday party stories in the Bible where a person was essentially murdered.
3) They make the claim that celebrating a person's birthday is in fact theft of glory belonging to Jehovah.
So, it's just an opinion with little evidence to support it. Just like so many other non-biblical self adopted prohibitions.

- Rely on Jehovah and take one day at a time
- Pour your heart out to Jehovah in earnest prayer
- Read and meditate on God's Word
- Share your feelings with a trusted friend
Items 1, 2, and 3 viewed from another perspective.
1. Rely on Spider-Man
2. Pour your hear out to Spider-Man in earnest prayer.
3. Read "The Amazing Spider-Man" and meditate on it.
No addressing #4 -
Share your feelings with a trusted Witness. Just kidding! There are no trusted Witnesses. They'll all rat you out to the elders and you risk being shunned.

I was raised as a Witness. I had just turned 19 when I had my first "girlfriend". I was still living at home with my parents as $8.00 as a day laborer wasn't going to make me self-sufficient. My mother found out from my sister that I was seeing a girl from a neighboring congregation. My mother flipped out. She went on a rant that about me getting married and moving my wife into the house with my parents. My mother told me to break it off or move out. That was not a problem as the girl I was seeing was just looking to get married and use me as her personal welfare check. Later my sister told me that my mom was more concerned over becoming a grandmother.
The next date I had was when I was in college. There was this girl in one of my classes that I was attracted to. At the end of the semester we had to attend class in business apparel as our final exam was a mock job interview. Being that it was a night class and we were all dressed up, I asked my classmate if she wanted to go out after class. She said yes. We had such a great time. She gave me her telephone number. It was a much better experience than dating a Witness.

“Bablyon the Great has Fallen”
by lastmanstanding inwhat have you not heard lately?.
.... no discussion on “babylon’s fall”.
by 1919 it was apparent that jehovah had passed judgment on christendom—and indeed on all false religion.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the WBTS taught that first the governments of the world turn on false religion and THEN they would turn against "Jehovah's people."
That's quite problematic for the WBTS. They are stoking the flames of fear, as seen in the 2019 Regional Convention video, using the events that have taken place in Russia. This produces a problem. A cart before the horse problem.
Maybe this is why they have backed off the Babylon the Great has Fallen line.

WBTS teach the government and their police are bad. They're coming to get you!
WBTS use same government and police to enforce copyright laws to remove their videos from online sources.
Dear WBTS - hypocrite much?

Music is meant to induce an emotion response. Take the same video, but this time edit in the Benny Hill theme song music and see what the effect is. Emotional manipulation - it's what cults do.

Mark 7:6-9 about Tradition
by Secreetly inwhen i asked my jw relatives about why they are the chosen one, she said one of the reasons can be found in mark 7:6-9. jw’s stand firm in rejecting all man made traditions including christmas, halloweenc and birthdays whereas no other religion does so.
.
what are your opinions about this?

truth_b_known
Weddings and wedding rings are man made traditions. Witnesses have know problem with those things. Weddings are not Biblical nor the practice of exchanging rings.
In the Biblical ancient Israel (versus the historical Israel) when a man and a woman married, they just walked around town telling everyone they are now husband and wife. Their final destination was wherever their reception was being held.
