For chronic earache apply one drop of pure alcohol (buy over counter at chemist) in ear. It sterilizes the ear and numbs the pain. Put cotton bud in ear for it not to leak out. Even safe to use for children. Virtually no side-effects. For what it's worth.

New CO talk: Be loyal to Org. even if you get weird instructions or can prove them wrong doctrinally!
by sir82 intheme was something about "loyalty to jehovah's visible organization".. i have neither the time nor inclination to summarize the whole thing, but a few points stood out:.
even if it causes you personal hardship.
example: joshua & caleb returned from spy trip to promised land with good report, but were "outvoted" by the other 10 spies.

Most recent CO visit: He uses the example of Moses to explain that a JW should not pursue higher learning. This application is all wrong. As the son of Pharoah's daughter, Moses "was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians" (cf. Acts 7:22). He went through all that Egyptian learning institutions could offer. In fact he did go to "University" and remained true to his Jewish faith. So, the example of Moses encourages one to send one's children to university. Especially beneficial would be if they could study from home. Then it would be no different to sending them to school.
More on topic: In the Watchtower article "Are You known by Jehovah?" the example of Korah and his followers is used to provide "a serious warning for elders and others in the congregation today," thus encouraging all to show "humility and submission". But the way I read it, this was a coup d' etat in the making, and Korah and followers were killed for attempting to wrest power from Moses and Aaron. I don’t think many JWs or ex-JWs few would attempt a coup d' etat in the congregation or organization, so the comparison is somewhat off the mark.
The TMS book, p. 240, warns: "Proper use of these teaching aids can enrich your talk, touch the lives of people, and make instruction memorable. Improperly used, they may divert attention from valuable instruction." I think both examples "divert attention from valuable instruction." I call that sloppy research. Anymore out there that I might have missed?

Jehovah's Witnesses are entitled to their own OPINION
by Terry inwe've all heard the old saying: "everybody is entitled to their own opinion.".
but, my toothache is objective pain.. .
to be of rational value, evidence must be objective.

Terry, I agree. Here one can generalize. All religious thought (theology) should be classified under "opinion" until it is proved right or wrong.
After reading Emanuel Tov's Textual Criticism of the Hebrew Bible (specifically p. 22), I had to work out for myself what it means to be objective/subjective. This is the conclusion I have arrived at, right or wrong:
A definition of objectivity is: “involving or deriving from sense perception or experience with actual objects, conditions, or phenomena”, e.g., objective awareness or data (Webster). Unfortunately the scope of the theologian [in this case the teachings of JW] is limited, having to rely on the Biblical account, historical sources, as well as commentaries, to the detriment of true objectivity. A definition of subjectivity is: “characteristic of belonging to reality as perceived rather than independent of mind” or “modified or affected by a personal view, experience or background”, e.g., subjective judgement (Webster). Although one should try to be as objective as possible, it must be conceded that subjectivity pervades all walks of life, especially religious thought. E.g. objective elements pertain to the description of the Biblical text as well as comparitive historical data. However, the disciplines of textual criticism, translation as well as exegesis, fall squarely in the subjective camp. In addition, a combination of subjective criteria and intuition is necessary to establish the importance of differences in ancient and modern translations, compared to the MT. On the whole, something considered a solid fact by one person is contested by another. Because of the nature of Biblical interpretation, it attests to a great deal of subjectivity, which should be taken into account when appraising such material. Hope it helps.

Was The Internet The Clincher For You To Mentally Leave The Organization?

Without the Internet I would never have known about the Watchtower riding the beast for ten years. They stopped doing that because they were exposed. Not, I'm sorry I did what was bad, rather, I'm sorry that I was caught doing it. But see, I've stopped now. Also thanks to the computer, mobile phones, word processing, e-mail, library programs, Amazon.com, etc. Without those, my eyes would have remained closed.

WT: Only JWs and idiots will survive Armageddon...
by Alfred insince there is compelling and overwhelming evidence that jehovah is the true and living god, creator and supreme sovereign of the universe, the plea of ignorance cannot be admitted in its full latitude except for idiots.
the atheists cannot plead ignorance.
the agnostics cannot plead ignorance.

I also had a problem with "Who will survive Armageddon?" Here's how I see it. All religious organizations, including the Witnesses, are going to be destroyed before Armageddon breaks. The anointed is going to be killed, or die of natural causes, so they won't be around. Then the parable of the sheep and goats goes into effect. Jesus is appointed as judge, so he will decide who qualifies as sheep or goat. Who will he choose? Those with the right heart condition who will be an asset to the newly established kingdom, those whose names have been written in the Book of Life.
And this is the beauty of the theory: You cannot claim to be a Jehovah's Witness (or of any other religion for that matter) and expect to be saved. Jehovah's Witnesses (or church) organizations won't exist. All persons alive at that point will be on an equal footing before God. That will make it more fair, won't it?
Certain indicators point me in this direction. First and foremost, God is fair to a perfect degree. Secondly, JW, as an organization, is going to be destroyed (Rev. 11:7, 8). Babylon the Great is also going to be destroyed (Rev. 17:16). The fact that the "great crowd" of Rev. 7 consists of different nations and tribes and tongues, and cannot be counted. Why uncountable? Because it's number will only be decided at the end. Thirdly, God is going to make all things new (Rev. 21:3, 4). That means that he cannot use existing structures or organizations because they are imperfect and in any case are going to be destroyed.
The conclusion: Those you expect to be there, won't be there. Those that you won't expect, will be there. Comments, please.

Read, read, read. Research, research, research. Write, write, write. Working knowlege of Hebrew and Greek. And here I am. I am part of a small congregation, and doing the work of a MS. Not good enough to be officially appointed. Low hours. Only good enough for Bible reading. Too wayward for any other part. I'm a "free-thinker." Slowly but surely scaling down operations. Only on this board can I have in depth discussions without people shouting "wolf" or is it "Apostate!" I have family in the Truth, so it'll have to be a fade, gradually, slowly, carefully. I had to work things out, also my understanding of the Scriptures. I think one grows, and then outgrows certain things. I cannot stomach hypocrisy and narrow-mindedness. Was it The Joker (Jack Nicholson) in one of the Batmans that told his gang: Go! Broaden your minds. Then they trash the art gallery with sprayguns. So yes, I do have a bit of a rebellious streak too.

Help With The Societys View Of Jesus Ransom Applying Only To The Annointed.
by AvocadoJake ini have read bits and pieces about the wt saying jesus ransom sacrifice only applies to the annointed.
the annointed in turn, will be mediators between earth dwellers and jesus christ to jehovah.
to get to jehovah, we know we must approach him in jesus christ name, when did the gb become the middle men between jesus christ and those who think they will be living on the earth.

Designs, allow us a little leeway here. If there is an Almighty God (which I do believe in) then he will have left us "a road map" to guide us through these perilous times. Granted, most religious groups want the prophecies to apply to themselves and their situation. A good example is the Maccabees (see the interesting prophecy at Dan. 11:14), another is the breakaway Essene group, who collected the DSS. The end of their system did come with the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. This I call historical reality. But as Jesus pointed out, that was only a partial fulfilment.
Today we have many groupings doing the same, e.g., the Witnesses. But for me personally, the evidence is overwhelming that we are living in the time of the end, or as Daniel puts it "in the final part of the days" (NWT) or "the latter days" (KJV). I see historical reality in current happenings.
Most scholars want the prophecies of Daniel to apply to Antiochus IV Epiphanes because they believe there cannot be a predictive element in prophecy. I disagree. A definition of prophecy is "history written in advance." And as above thread suggests, God has always had a remnant of holy ones that He has kept safe. These ones are special because they will one day rule, alongside their Master, Jesus Christ. On above premises I build my faith, and yes, time will tell whether I am going to stand or fall.
