This happened to the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg a few years ago. Somebody added him to a group called NAMBLA , the North American Man/Boy Love Association. Seems like he would have wanted to change it after this to where you have to accept a request once someone invites you to a group, but it's still the same.

What is the difference between wearing makeup and and celebrating a birthday?
by I_love_Jeff inmost of the women mentioned in the bible who wore makeup were prostitutes.
jehovah's witnesses state that it is okay to wear a little makeup because the bible does not say it is not allowed.
according to jehovah's witnesses, there are two accounts of birthdays being celebrated in the bible and both had to do with beheadings/murders.

"At length Je´hu came to Jez´re·el, and Jez´e·bel herself heard of it. And she proceeded to paint her eyes with black paint and do her head up beautifully and to look down through the window." (2 Kings 9:30)
The Bible mentions makeup here and it's a bad person that puts it on, and a death occurs. Birthdays are forbidden since someone is killed at the two birthdays in the Bible. The cross reference in the NWT at 2 Kings 9:30 points to 1 Peter 3:3.
"And do not let YOUR adornment be that of the external braiding of the hair and of the putting on of gold ornaments or the wearing of outer garments." (1 Peter 3:3)
I wonder why they didn't make this into a rule.

In Practice, the GB Substitutes "The Organization" for Jesus
by Ding inrecently, i have had some pm discussions with a couple of jwn members regarding the extent to which the gb injects itself and the wt organization into the bible message.
one of them encouraged me to post my comments as a topic, so i am doing so here.. .
in the wt religion, everything is about "god's organization.

In Matthew 9:6 Jesus says that he has been given the authority to forgive sins, but the GB teaches that only the Father forgives sins and that he does this in large part based on JWs' proving themselves worthy by faithful dedication to the work of the organization.
Do they really teach that only the Father forgives sins? Are there any Watchtower quotes on this?

To me, they act like Absalom, third son of David, who paciently spent years "stealing the hearts" of the Israelites in hopes to usurp the throne.
Does that mean that the Governing Body is currently sitting on the modern day throne of David?

Question from a newbie
by L3G inmy second post.
while lurking here, i've seen that some regular contributors have good resources or ability to find things in the wt publications.. i've got a relative who sometimes listens when i point out problems with the borg's thinking, but i don't have the resources to find something that would help me when talking to her.
perhaps someone here can find it and help me out.

The United Nations will attack Christendom
by Doug Mason inthis is a serious question and i hope to receive intelligent explanations.. .
the wts says that the great tribulation lies in the future.
they write that it will start when the united nations attacks christendom.. .

I might could see them eventually turning on Islam one day years down the road if things keep going the way they've been going. But if they really say that the nations will turn on Christendom before Armageddon starts, then how could Armageddon be right around the corner? This would take years of radical changes before anything like that would ever happen.

If the Governing Body are the Faithful and Discreet Slave, Could the Governing Body all die at once?
by Eustace ini'm thinking that if all the governing body members all died at once, it would disprove this whole "the governing body are the faithful and discreet slave" business once and for all.. the faithful and discreet slave, according to watchtower teaching, will continue to exist into the time of the end.
so if the governing body all die at once, that means they ain't the faithful and discreet slave.. they need more youngish gb members quick!.

The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.
So if the lion eating straw is literal, then the serpent eating dust must be literal as well.
It couldn't possibly be symbolic could it? I mean with all those lamb of god, Satan being a roaring lion, Satan being a serpent, being cursed to eat dust all the days of his life, etc. references...

I need some serious advice...
by confusedteenager ini'm almost a year out of high school and of course, i'm not in college.
i'm a pioneer (sigh) with little to no work experience and having a really hard time finding any work.
i want to go back to college, but it's going to be difficult now that i'm a pioneer, and my parents cannot really afford the loans that will incur should i pursue going to college.

Don't take out any loans unless you are going to live away from your parents and need money for rent. If you can live with your parents and go to a community college, just apply for a Pell Grant at fafsa.ed.gov. I got my A.A. at a community college and bachelors from the state university here since I live in a college town without having to pay any money or take out any loans. With the Pell Grant, it pays for your tuition and books plus a couple thousand extra dollars each semester for spending money (you know like beer and stuff :) ) They will offer you loans also when you qualify for the grant but you can just check the box that says you don't want a loan. But if you do opt for the loan on top of the grant, go with the subsidized loan which means there is no interest on the money until 6 months after you graduate.
