Even my mom knew about JW's and 1977!!... wait... what??
by ILoveTTATT inand my mom said, "yeah, like those brothers who thought... that... 1977... was the end of the world...".
mom: "yeah... those who believed that last year was the end of the world".
i mean, how stupid is it to have a rock tell them when the end of the world is!!

Can one find God without studying the Bible?
by Dis-Member ini don't recall jesus ever once telling people that they should even read the bible to find god.. he said nothing about 'taking in knowledge' either.. .
he didn't encourage people to read the bible because 90% of people in his day couldn't read!
the bible was not read by most people, it was -heard- when someone else read it aloud.

If I remember correctly John 17:3 "this means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge....." were Jesus' words.

Interesting stuff.....I have looked for a similar statement for the U.S.A. from the WTB&TS, but have never found one.Has anyone else come across such a thing? Are non-profits and not-for-profits even required to make public such info in the U.S.?

I wonder...
by braincleaned ini wonder about why so many of us stick to the "truth" within the frame of the jehovah's witness religion.. of course, the wts has authority over our minds thru the control of information, demonizing any "worldly" knowledge that might jeopardize our faith in this entity.. thru my own experience, i understand how we can stick to this organization; because of a life's investment in serving, and the close ties of family and peers we do not wish to abandon or upset.
so we are here on sites like these, to understand the mechanisms of the cult... to try to make sense of why we should stay, or why we should leave.. the consequences are too important to take this lightly, or too swiftly.. if i may share a bit of my journey, i did not have to worry too much about the cult at first, because my main battle was based deeper than that.
after all, the root of any christian religion is in the bible itself; faith in jehovah and christ; trust in the idea that the bible is inspired by god himself.. so yes, my quest went to the base, the root of the jw faith... the bible.. since childhood, the character of jehovah was a problem for me.

Romans 21:19: "........Vengence is mine, I will repay says Jehovah." Pretty hard to mis-understand that.

Things in the Bible that the JWs don't follow/practice.
by UBM101 ini am pretty annoyed to read/hear them saying that they are the true christian religion because they preach, follow the bible bla..bla..bla... let's list down the things in the bible that they don't follow/do.
i'm sure they are plenty.. the fruits of the holy spirit, that's for a start.. .

MAtt. 28:19:"......baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit". I have NEVER heard those words in a baptism talk.....and I was 'in' for over 50 as M.S., elder, school overseer, B.S. conductor, etc, etc.

A favorite example of mine is the jdubs own illustration of a glass of water with just a bit of contamination (dirt is good, but I like to use urine or defacation in my examples).....would you be inclined to drink it down; or even just sip from it? Any scripture that backs up the thought of 'not going beyond what is written' --or-- 'a little leaven ferments the whole lump' may tip the scales more towards clear thinking. Turning their own arguments against them leaves little room for defense.
