Watchtower Society vs. General Motors
by Socrateswannabe inwhat is the difference between the watchtower society and general motors?
even with its recent coverup of a deadly defect in the ignition system of one of its car models, gm may be more ethical and its leaders more scrupulous than the watchtower--at they lease they are no worse.
i don't see any difference in how the society is run than a major corporation anyway.

This generation and a key weasel word
by Socrateswannabe inin this past sunday's watchtower lesson, which has been discussed at length on this board, the gb/writing committee used a key weasal word that we will probably see again.
the exact quote is: "we understand that in mentioning 'this generation,' jesus was referring to two groups of anointed christians.".
this goofy teaching is merely a patch until they can devise something more plausible, or until some event occurs that they can latch onto that will make this teaching more acceptable to the r&f.

The first step toward apostasy
by Socrateswannabe in"the first step toward apostasy is a drop in field service activity.
i have read that statement in wts publications and heard it many times from the platform.
i haven't studied philosphy so i'm not sure what type of logical fallacy this is an example of, but it is one for sure.

Where does the need to worship god come from?
by Socrateswannabe inwhere does the need to worship god come from?.
this is a question that i asked myself repeatedly when i used to believe that god exists.
i struggled with this because i have never had the urge, and i imagined myself an ingrate because of it.

The WTS has an ANSWER/SPIN for everything! Acts 12:15
by Socrateswannabe inper the ministry school schedule, the bible reading continues in the book of acts.
in chapter 12 king herod arrests peter and throws him in prison, meaning to "produce him" for the jews after the passover (evidently to be executed).
an angel appears to peter in prison, releases his bonds and walks him out of the gate of the jail.

Did Stephen believe he would have to wait 2000 years for a resurrection?
by Socrateswannabe inin acts 7:59, the jews were casting stones at stephen and his last words were, "lord jesus, receive my spirit.".
the wts has contended that all of the ancients who died after jesus were in a sleep-like condition, awaiting a resurrection that eventually happened in 1918-1919 (depending upon which wt reference you are looking at).
and in fact, v. 60 says stephen "fell asleep in death".

Should all elders be painted with the same brush?
by Socrateswannabe inan hour or two ago, i was reading a topic on this forum that welcomed new elders to jwn.
there was some criticism aimed at the op and i understand that elders shouldn't be singled out as special.
one poster said he/she hates all elders.

The connection between dinosaurs and preaching
by Socrateswannabe ini was reading this thread from six years ago by m.j.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/118608/1/were-dinosaurs-part-of-a-pre-adamic-paradise.
it's a great topic and well worth a read.
the existence of dinosaurs has long vexed the wts, i believe.

New Light Minefield
by Socrateswannabe inin case any of the rest of you are "stuck in" like me and are following the tms bible-reading schedule, this week is a killer.
as i read matt.
25 i realized that almost everything in that chapter has undergone revision after revision in my lifetime, not the least of which are the "generation" understanding and the gb=fds thingy.
