There is a common belief that FW Franz was ghost writer for some of Rutherfords later books anyway.

When did Watchtower writings start becoming anonymous?
by Wild_Thing ini think most people know that authorship was credited in the old watchtower literature, but at some point everything became anonymous.
i still do not know exactly when this started, but i found this in charles taze russell's last will and testament.
his will was not honored in other respects, so i doubt they would have honored this request.

The Red Headed League
by dropoffyourkeylee ini am sitting here watching my pioneering wife get service time ‘writing letters’ to not-at-homes.
she has a long list of names and addressees where the jws in field service never got anyone home.
the letter is simply a word for word copy, handwritten on note paper, then sent in the usmail.

I think they get all the names to match to addresses off the internet, in public domain. I think there are a fair number of letters returned with the incorrect name or address. The letter writer puts his or her name, first and last, on the return address, but the address is a PO Box for the KH. -

I am reminded of the Sherlock Holmes story ‘The Red Headed League’, where the criminals hired a red haired man to copy out the Britannica encyclopedia by hand , merely to get him out of his office during the day so they could dig a tunnel to rob a bank. Funny in a way.

Languages, Dialects, Accents
by LoveUniHateExams injust though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.

$5.5 Million to be transferred to World Wide Work from Assembly Hall fund
by Sour Grapes ina letter was read tonight in our kingdom hall that the money that the circuits in the indianapolis area had in savings to build a new assembly hall will now be transferred to the www to build kingdom halls in lands where they are needed and a new assembly hall for us will not be built.. we had a beautiful assembly hall near downtown indy that was paid for.
it was sold a couple of years ago.
we were promised a new assembly hall to be built in southern ohio near the indiana border but they can kiss that goodbye now.

I can give a local perspective since I was in a congregation at the time (2010-2011) when these donations were accepted.
The plan was presented at the time to put up for sale the Indianapolis Indiana assembly hall and the London Ohio assembly hall, use the money and collect more donations to build a more centrally located, new-design Assembly hall in SW Ohio (near Cincinnati). The new hall would seat about 3500, and would be used for both circuit assemblies and a slimmed-down district/regional convention series in the summers.
The need for donations was supposed to be $8 million over and above proceeds from the sales of the two halls. Our hall took a survey of 'pledges' and came up with the figure of $600 a month to donate for the SW Assembly hall building fund. There was a special contribution box at the back of the hall just for it. The WT proceeded far enough to buy the property, but I don't think there was any movement beyond that. There was significant opposition from the local authorities over allowing a non-profit to use the chosen properties (it all had to do with the lack of tax revenues, and the area they had selected was in an industrial park).
The Indianapolis Hall sold a few years ago; I don't know where they are having their assemblies. The JWs are still using the London OH building as they always have,as it never found a buyer and was taken off the market. .
The 'special box' at the back of the hall disappeared a couple of years ago (about the time the KH mortgages were 'forgiven') and no mention was made of the status of the collected monies which had been forward to WT specifically for the SW Assembly Hall fund.
Now, on the Indiana side, apparently as the OP states, they are going to take the money for the WW work after resolutions pass (the initial donations took a resolution as well, if I remember correctly). I can't confirm that on the Ohio side they are doing the same as Indiana, though I expect they are.

The Dark-Skinned Early Briton.
by fulltimestudent ini'm sure many others noted in yesterday's news feeds, that scientists deciphering the dna of the skeleton remains of a man thought to have died some 10,000 years ago in the south of england, have presented him as:.
as blue-eyed (now that's quite english) but as dark skinned.
and, that's not very english, to the horror of many.. (link: https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/02/ancient-face-cheddar-man-reconstructed-dna-spd/ ).

The book burning has started
by pale.emperor indon't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.
