  The Evolutionary History of the Apple

  this is a fascinating study of how our modern apples evolved.

  the study involved examining the genomes of the array of apple varieties, including related types of fruit.. from it we can learn that the fruit types we know today, may not have existed in ancient times.

  from its origins in what we now call kazakhstan, it seems the original fruit changed as trees grew in many places along the great ancient network of trade routes we call the silk road, and as different varieties evolved in various ways.. a readable version of the story can be found in popular archaeology:.

  A couple of followups. I have a copy of the 2009 songbook and it doesn't have the song that I can see, so the video posted earlier which gives the song # as 143 must be a different one.. It's so confusing anymore! Anyway it is #77 in the JW app.

  Second, I had a look at the written music for this song today and it is really unusual. The music has 3 flats, which would normally mean the key of E flat. But it isn't in E flat, I think it uses the B flat Mixolydian scale. Very unusual for a KH song.

  Juarez MX Assembly Kingdom Hall to be sold.

  there are several confirmed announcements in some congregations around the city regarding the sale of the assembly kingdom hall.

  one of the reasons why it will be sold is that expenses are not covered by donations.

  the hall was dedicated in 2009. actually, in some congregations the elders have not given the announcement for the publisher's reaction... .

  Since Assembly halls are generally used only 2 days a week, and sit mostly vacant 5 days a week, I have always wondered how they have found it economically efficient. Surely it would cost less, all things considered, just to rent a stadium or other facilities for the assemblies.

  Chapter 13 New Boy 50 years a Watchtower slave

  saturday morning i was up at 6:30. it was fun trying to share small bathroom with seven other guys, all trying to get ready in 20 minutes.

  i threw some cloths on and headed to first “morning worship.” gilbert said i could sit on his table since there was an extra space there.

  I visited my brother who was at Bethel in the 70's, and I recall the same table scene that Keith describes. The visitors (like me) and the new boys stood out like a sore thumb because they didn't have the table methods down right. Passing the food the wrong direction, etc, got a swift correction.

  I had never heard of Blunden before now, but if he died at 75 in 1915, he would have been one of the older of the Bible Students. I wonder about his role, what years he was a director, etc.

  So how did JF Rutherford function...?

  every picture i have seen at him at beth shirim and other private places are with a bottle of alcohol.. while for me personally i couldn't care less anymore.... for jw's this is low moral character.

  so i'm an going to guess he was a functioning alcoholic... how did that work with his closest workers?

  was he gay too?

  There is a video out there of Rutherford sitting at a table and drinking, but there is no bottle and while it is likely it is alcohol, it is uncertain. I detest Rutherford personally, but I think his drinking is overblown. His general mean- spiritedness did more to hurt the JWs than any alcohol usage.
