Most Poorly Written JW Book
by JW_Rogue inso i was thinking the other day that the wt corp has produced thousands of books over the years.
although the writers have changed the style is almost always the same.
however, some books are just worse than others.

Speaking of really old books, the Three Worlds written by Barbour and financed by Russell was terrible. Unreadable -

My dad used to refer to those books as 'deep', when in fact they were just plain bad. They were boring and unintelligible because they were badly written and their logic and analysis were just wrong. I am referring to all the 384 page books up to the 70's, and the 192 p books in the 80's and 90's. Oddly the only one I liked was the Commentary on James, and found out later it was written by an apostate! -

Are you related to me?
by Coded Logic inthe chances that anyone on this forum is my biological brother or sister, purely from a statistical point of view, is rather low.
but how many generations back would we have to go to have a fair chance that one of my ancestors married one of your ancestors (or procreated anyway)?.
i was born in 1985. less than 20 years before my birth my two parents were being conceived by a combined 4 parents of their own.. and if we go back even further, to 40 years before my birth, then i'll find an additional 8 ancestors.. around the 60 year mark i have another 16 ancestors.

Hmmm , families are sure different. All my great grandparents were born between 1850 and 1868. So different from the OP. -

Baptisms and Assembly attendances
by freddo inlast year we had a thread posting baptisms in relation to assembly attendances.
the numbers seemed to be down.. please keep'em coming.
and describe whether you think they might be born-in (kids/teens) or adults from outside.

There have been several threads along these lines for the past few years. The ratio has been running about 0.4% to 0.6%, that is:
# baptized/ # in attendance
I had an old assembly program from 1973 and the ratio was over 2%.

Evidence of Human Activity in Northern Siberia 45,000 years ago.
by fulltimestudent inthis information makes the biblical dating of human origins a sad joke.
quote: " when they dated the remains, the researchers got another surprise: the mammoth died 45,000 years ago.
that means that humans lived in the arctic more than 10,000 years earlier than scientists believed, according to a new study.

I'm not sure anyone believes in the 6000 years of human existence anymore. It's so out of touch with reality so as to be a joke. -

Is there evidence for networks of abuse?
by slimboyfat ini tend to avoid the subject because it's too depressing, so i've probably missed lots of discussion about this issue.
but i read a comment on youtube yesterday that shocked me and made me wonder.
the person claimed that many years ago abusers in society generally identified jws as a safe haven for abusers and joined en masse order to exploit the situation.

There is no evidence that I am aware of or have ever heard of. One phenomenon that could be happening is that abusers may be attracted to an environment where they feel comfortable and not challenged about their past. They are then more likely to make it through the studies, etc, to become a JW than they are to become involved in another religion, club, or other organization where their past is brought up all the time and confronted with it. In this way it might appear that there is a conspiracy of sorts to bring in abusers. -

United States baptism stats 1969-2015
by the comet inwhenever the new yearbooks come out, we all look at the figures and see the publisher increase never really matches up with the baptism figures.
it never should match up as all newly baptized ones are already publishers, and may have been for many years.
i, as an example, became an unbaptized publisher at age 11. i didn't get baptized until i was 17. .

The biggest exodus in this time frame was from 1996 thru 2000, both in numbers and in percent. -
