I think the president now is just a legal function, without any real power. As long as there is a legal corporation under current laws, there will be a president.

Has Robert Ciranko replaced Don Adams as president of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania ?
by EdenOne inrobert ciranko has been a "helper" of the governing body in the writing department.. don adams (born 1925, presumably 91 years old now) has been president of the wtbts since 2000. .
however, in recent official posts (april 2016), robert ciranko is identified as "president of the watch tower".
does anybody know what happened and if this is an official change?.

Steve Hassan. Can some one verify if this is true.

Everyone is different, and each one finds a different way to freedom. I found Hassans book interesting, but less enlightening than 'The Wrong Way Home' Uncovering the patterns of Cult Behavior in American Society' by Arthur Deikman. It has no mention of JWs, but I found it instrumental in my break from the JW control -

Recording of AH MacMillan and others
by dropoffyourkeylee inhere's an interesting website with a collection of recorded talks by many of the 'historic' people in the wt organization.
i only listened to one, by ah macmillan, from about 1960 or so, but there are many to choose from.
i can't imagine where they got a hold of these.. http://da-ip.getmyip.com:8080/pdf/other%20talks/.

I found it accidentally while searching for the name Ciranko, which is the name of the president of the WT society (I think). We had a circuit overseer named Dick Ciranko back about thirty years ago and there are a few of his talks in the collection here. But I think the WT president is a different person; maybe they are related.

Just because he charges money does not make him a scammer, but it definitely seems like an expensive service.

The bOrg Cult Tactics
by pale.emperor ini'm wondering if the borg actually studied mind control and coercion tactics deliberately or wether they just evolved over time through trial and error.
from reading steve hassans books, studying hypnosis and methods psychopaths use it all seems very complex.
like it would never occur to me to do a, b and c in the right order at the right time in order to get control of someone or control their lives.. for example, repetition of words (the word "loyalty" was a big one in the last convention), using loaded language, encouraging people not to trust their own thoughts, restricting their information, demonising those who leave etc.

Cults have formed in many places, countries, and time periods. It just happens from time to time when circumstances are right for it. I for one don't think the wt has become a cult because the leadership read books on it. It just happened the same way all the others have.

Relationship Between the JWs and Brooklyn Coming to an End
by betterdaze inthe 107-year relationship between the jehovah’s witnesses and brooklyn is coming to an endby terence cullen sept. 21, 2016, 9:45 a.m.for jehovah’s witnesses, brooklyn heights was until recently the equivalent of vatican city for catholics.
brooklyn—“the borough of churches”—arguably has no congregation with a more noticeable presence than the witnesses.
the watch tower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, the governing body of the jehovah’s witnesses, built its headquarters at 25-30 columbia heights, and it is there to greet any visitor driving over the brooklyn bridge.

The old guard, the JWs who I grew up with in the 60's and 70's, looked at the complex in Brooklyn as sort of a Mecca or Vatican. Now however , with the majority (someone check me on this) of JWs in non-north America, the move will not be a big issue, my opinion.

Pity the poor Bible believers - Australian Native People left Africa over 70,000 years ago
by fulltimestudent inmany bible believers accept the genesis documents explanations of human origins.
but the modern science of genomics is making that a very difficult intellectual position to hold.. increasingly, to believe the bible, is to accept superstition over rationality.. three papers published in the scientific journal nature demonstrate the point:.
1. the ancestors of australia aboriginal and papuan peoples left africa around 72,000 years ago.. 2. they arrived in the geological locations we now identify as australia and papua around 50,000 years ago.

Bible thumpers aside, why were the aborigines so isolated? Did they not have any knowledge of boats? The Chinese and the Polynesians were travelling long distances, why didn't they touch Australia? There must be reasons for this.
