Kingdom Hall Built on Site of Former Slave Market
by Wild_Thing inin mississippi, there is a historical site called forks of the road.
before the civil war, it was one of the most active slave trading markets in the south.
it was a triangular piece of land formed by ... you guessed it ... a fork in the road.

Don't forget that the WT had segregated congregations in the US South up until the early sixties. -

So... Are they done printing the number of partakers?
by thedepressedsoul induring the wt study yesterday i had a confused look on my face the whole meeting.
more of a, wtf, face.
one paragraph says, "therefore, the number of partakers does not accurately indicate the number of anointed ones left on earth.".

The '144000 is a literal number' doctrine is going to have to be changed someday. It's just a matter of time. -

Catholic encyclopedia misquote
by alcyone ini do not know if this misquote has been discussed here already.. new catholic encyclopedia says this about jw:.
"judge" rutherford introduced important changes in the witnesses' creed and transformed the congregational structure of the sect as it was under "pastor" russell into a rigid theocracy.
the third leader, "brother" nathan h. knorr, gradually replaced the offensive convert-making tactics of the rutherford era by suave manners that have gained the witnesses their current reputation as one of the best-behaved groups in the world.

I had not seen the encyclopedia entry in the OP, but I am a little surprised by it. It is comparatively biased for an encyclopedia. -

To those who attended, attendance up or down at your memorial?
by Crazyguy ininteresting to see if there's a noticeable trend in memorial attendance.
also did they talk more then usual about ones not to partake?

In many areas they have been renting places to hold the memorial where 3-4 congregations share a hall, and getting them all in one place exceeds the building capacity -

New Memorial Songs Were Very Good, IMO
by RubaDub ini guess we can agree to differ, but i personally found the new memorial songs (147, 149) to be very good, at least from a musical perspective.
.
rub a dub .

The two songs were not bad, comparing to many they have tried.
Guitarists probably noticed a misprint on the second song handout, where they put 'capo 3' should have been 'capo 1'

Seemed low for this congregation, though I didn't hear the count. There were some empty chairs around, which is usually not the case. (mid west US) -

2016 Memorial Done & Dusted
by steve2 inwell on this side of the planet, the southern hemisphere/ new zealand, the 2016 memorial service in local kingdom halls will be over for another year.
another great big anticlimax.
some family and relatives will have gone - but unless i ask my sister, i generally have no idea about attendance and partaker numbers.

Attendance seemed low here (Midwest US). There were some empty seats here and there, which is not usual. -

Circuit visit elders meeting
by Saltheart Foamfollower infirst some context to this post.
historically the elders meeting with the circuit overseer has had the following format : outline for meeting including ministerial servants then, after they have been dismissed, discussion of local issues.
the last visit there was an additional outline for the elders only, the notorious "gender blurring" discussion.. you might wonder what is being discussed this time round, so here you are:.

Hmm somehow I missed the entire discussion. I guess I'm not outlandish enough to have heard about it -
