CAH closing down in upstate NY
by oppostate inyet another circuit assembly hall is going to be sold off!.
they've been reducing the amount of congregations assigned to meet there and using the times when it isn't in use to make repairs.
elders have now been informed that they are selling off the property and buildings and that circuits would be assigned to attend other sites, twice as far, three or four hours away, like montreal.

I was at a Baptist church for a funeral a while back and the pianist played a hymn that sounded virtually the same as Keep Your Eyes on the Prize. I think the tune was ripped off from Christendom. imagine that -

LATEST NEWS: CANDANCE CONTI VERIDICT READY - WT LOST!!!!!!!
by Viva la Vida ini'm not an expert but that is my understanding of this: .
opinion filed.. (signed published) the judgment against defendants on the negligence count is affirmed.
the judgment against watchtower on the cause of action for punitive damages is reversed with directions to enter judgment for watchtower on punitive damages.

Candace's original intent was to force the WT to be accountable, and to make the WT change their policy. In this respect, since the WT's negligence was affirmed, I would say that it is a win for Conti. The secondary issue of millions of damages (which Conti didn't ask for in the first place) the WT has apparently dodged the bullet. But the precedent is set and they can no longer say that they have never lost one of these cases.
Not a lawyer, just what I am getting from the wording in the OP.

Jdub Growth In USA?

In the US in my region (midWest rural) there isn't any growth. Kids getting baptized, some foreign language growth (I hear) but besides that there are very few converts like in the pre '1995-or-so' days. I believe the increase on publishers that are being printed are due to:
1) making it easier to report time. 15 minutes at a time is allowed, and both parents can report time for their bible studies at home with kids. and
2) encouraging, reaching out to, former publishers who have gone inactive in service but still attend meetings for family reasons. There are many, many people in each congregation like that who have started reporting again, maybe just an hour or two.
The result is an increase in numbers of publishers, but I wouldn't call it growth.

The Real History of Mormonism - Outstanding Lecture
by cofty inif you think the mormon church is off-the-scale crazy you probably don't know the half of it.. the historical information in this talk by david fitzgerald is fascinating.
the good news is that, just like the watchtower, their growth is being stunted by the internet.. grab a coffee and be amazed at just how gullible millions of people can be.. lucy harris has become my new heroine.
don't miss the section from 8:50.

Just listened to the entire thing. A bit on the sensational side, but interesting.
It's a shame that he doesn't bring out the JW roots in the 'burned over' district of upstate NY, though he does mention the SDA connection.

Actually, the connection of the vampire horror stories and sex has been written about before, so the author of the essay referred to in the OP isn't original in that respect. But he or she does make more of a specific connection to blood transfusions than I have read before.
Thanks for commenting. I think for some reason the WT leaders in the 30's and 40's had a gut level abhorrence of blood transfusions without really understanding why. It is quite possible that it was a subconscious feeling on their part that was based on sexual repression.
For the record, Fred Franz was born in 1893, Rutherford in 1869.
