Rebel8. I agree that being a JW is embarrassing - but we are no longer JWs! I have embraced my eXJWism. Not only is it not embarrassing - it is a perfect start of a conversation. I love talking about my JW life. I can bring my audience to tears or hysterical laughter - all depending upon my mood. We all have stories that are wonderful - don't hold back. -

I have not gone to a class reunion - I doubt that that missing my HS class reunion is because of being a JW. Perhaps I will go to my next. But I am not sure how to find out when the next reunion is. How does that happen? -

I have know several in my life - all dead now. One gentleman was kind and extremely humble. He would be the person you would want to be ruling in heaven. My father made a point for his children (including me) to meet a few very old anointed sisters that were friends of the family. At the time I enjoyed the conversation and saw no reason to question their faith.
I also knew an anointed who was a closet gay arse hole of whom I have reason to believe preyed on innocent young boys - inside and outside the congregation.

The present Governing Body will rule the U.S.A.
by John Aquila ini havent gone to meetings in about 1 year and a half.
one of my neighbors who is a jw-lady told me that the co on the last visit said that its very likely that right after armageddon (which is just around the corner) the present governing body members will be in charge of the united states since they are familiar with the culture.
and that the apostles and early christians will be in charge of areas like china.

How much can you buy with a dollar a week allowance?
by John Aquila in$ 1 dollar a week x 8 million jws = $ 8 million dollars a week.
$ 8 million x 52 weeks in a year = $ 416 million dollars a year.
and its all tax free.. you know jws donate more than $ 1 dollar a week!

In my experience as account servant the congregation expenses were covered by very few people. Most contributed nothing - and that includes for the literature. In all my life as a JW the total I contributed over a 30 year period was less than $50.00
What you describe is I am sure what the Watchtower had in mind with the new arrangement. Reality is a little different.

Did You Feel Bad For the JW Dishwasher-Cook Who Quit His Job (May JW Broadcasting)To Avoid Attending Later Meetings? He Pioneered on Welfare or Unemployment!
by RoyalFlushPhil indid you watch the story about the jw who was working as a burger boy at some diner and his boss wanted him to work on sunday during the time of his meeting?
this faithful jw decided he could not attend a later meeting (6 pm sunday meeting) and soon quit his job(or got fired to attend his sunday meeting) so he could attend the sunday meeting he was assigned to.
i think he was on welfare because this story states he won't work on sunday morning because that's when his meeting is!

If prayers are more readily received by new publishers - why did it take him 6 months to get a job? It is pretty lame that jehober needs 6 months to find a minimum wage job for one of his worshipers. -

I got a chance to view the video. It made me angry on some many levels.
How dare the congregation force a young man to give up a job just so he could go to the "assigned" congregation meeting! That shows how unloving the organization is. He stated he could go to an evening meeting - I am sure that was inserted to show that you must do just as you are told.
There were obvious problems with the social economic status of this family. Short-order cooks don't make that much money. He was probably not making much more than minimum wage. Yet, with three kids they were living a upper middleclass lifestyle. How could that be?
If you quit your job you are not eligible for unemployment. The rules are different for each state, but generally you need to prove that there are serious or important personal reasons, called "urgent, compelling or necessitous reasons." Given that he could attend a latter meeting I don't see how this is compelling.
In any event, how did they pay their bills on unemployment?
