swearing on the bible a jw 'no no' ??
by nelly136 inwhile watching a film last night i was jiggled by a memory when one of the cast was on the trial stand.. i have vague memories of swearing on the bible being an absolute no no but cant remember the 'logic' that was used back then.. its in my head possibly from an old kh platform example that someone was able to swear on the bible on the stand as it had been swapped for another book by a jw working in the court so the person giving evidence could swear on it with a clean conscience, as we all got the same canned experiences over the years i was wondering if someone else could remember what that was about.
(just curious cos its bugging me and yup i could be totally wrong).
but even if i've got the example screwy can anyone remind me why swearing on the bible was a 'no no'.

Cervarix Gardasil teen hpv jab
by nelly136 inwhile i'm not fussed about getting into moral issues over the shoulds and shouldnts, i'm quite interested in how well this jab has been received.
in other countries.. cervarix fda aproval pending?
is the cheaper version that the uk is going gung ho for, and its being exhulted as being effective against a couple of strains and supposedly more effective on those two than the gardasil which covers a wider group, though it seems gardasil has the fda aproval and is the one that has more widely been used in other countries?.

R.I.P Nelly O'Grady
by nelly136 inspent last few months in jah-jireh residential home in peterborough area somewhere, and died in hospital august 3rd 2008.
90+ years old and about 60+ years service as a faithful jw.. thankyou to the non jw person who confirmed my suspicions last week that my nan had died.....allowing me to ring round half of cambridge and peterborough to get the details that werent forthcoming from anywhere else.
you never knew you were my safest sanctuary as a child, and although contact was so very lacking for the last 20+ years due to the cult of jw, i will always remember and cherish you as the warm cuddly kissy person i could escape to, i just wish my children had had the benefit of knowing you as i did as a child.

reporting abuse/charity rules
by nelly136 infor years the borg has sneaked round reporting abuse in places where its not a 'legal requirement'.
do the new charity rules mean that to not inform them of breaches could lose charity status?.

jws and jury service
by nelly136 insome of those questioned mentioned personal hardships that could prevent them from serving on a trial that's estimated to last four weeks.
the reasons ran the gamut from being a jehovah's witness (whose religion doesn't allow them to sit in judgment) .

damned if you do, damned if you don't
by nelly136 inwith good ol' labour here policing the 'truancy' levels, unauthorised school absences can get you a big fine.. my daughters school is a bit of a stickler, so as we are no longer allowed to decide whether our kids are sick or not i've adopted a "go to school and let them decide if they want to send you home because you're sick" policy.. while chatting to the nurse who rang me from school today (to go pick up sickly littlun), i was a little more than taken back to find out that..... if the school nurse sends home a child they are then classed as an unauthorised absence, most of the times i've brought littlun home from school is because they have requested this.. on the other hand if she had been 'isolated' or sent home from school by a teacher for being a little shit in class that would not class as an unauthorised absence as the teacher has sent her home.. i wonder how many other schools here are adopting that policy, my daughters school definately doesn't advertise it.

pepper spray, the new lunch box school accessory
by nelly136 ini'm sitting in the layby waiting for my littlun to come out of schools back gate, it usually takes her a ten minute dawdle, the ten minutes comes and goes, five policemen walk across the road and up the path towards the school, still no sign of littlun,.
eventually at 3.52 my mobile phone rings, 'theres been a bit of a chemical leak, the children in the offending building have all been checked by paramedics, can you come and pick her up?'.
i drive past the news wagons parked along the road into the main car park which is swarming with police cars, police, and cameramen.
