I think in order to be a prophet or a god it requires a good pair of sandals. Just sayin!

I still get the oddest statements from witnesses. Just Sat an old family friend told me "Please, come home." I asked "Huh?" because she caught me off gaurd. She said "to Jehovah". It pisses me off because it was at my aunts anniversary party, which was at a restaurant. My aunt purposefully invited just "worldly" people because she didnt want any one to judge her for having a bunch of worldly friends. This lady was the only witness invited. I didnt respond because it wasnt the time or the place. Also, this lady is like family. The next time she tells me something Im going to kindly respond by saying " I have been both a die hard servant of Jehovah and now Im an Atheist living my life. I have never in my whole life been happier than I am right now. I have never been this sure of what I want for my life and my future. I no longer have an irrational fear for the future or guilt for my past. This is my home. It may not be your home but it is mine. Please dont ask me to leave my home for yours. You would be asking me to trade everything I love and have, everything I have worked hard for and enjoy for a home I ran away from already."

"Of course I want to do my own thing! Doesnt everybody? If nobody did their own thing then disfellowshipping wouldnt exist. Every witness would be following the rules at all times. Everyone would be pioneering, serving as elders, not owning homes, not having a 401k, single, childless and poor. But you dont see that do you?
So, yes, I choose to do my own thing just like everyone else. At least I own up to it. I have nothing to hide. Who knows what skeletons you have in your closet?"
This was my response once to that statement.

Pesonally I'm tired of discussing faith with Christians. Where are the Muslims, Hindus, Jews, Budists and all other faiths at? Lets change it up a bit.
The biggest problem with Christians is the ego they have to forget that they are not the only ones that have a God. Instead of us faithless people going back and forth with them, lets get some other faiths to duke it out with them. Give us atheists a break!

The Internet Proves JWs Are a Joke Now
by jw07 ini'm a born in, born in the 1980s and old enough to remember studying beefy (albeit full of crap) material like the the evolution book and revelation book (which we studied over and over and over and over).
books and brochures were wordy and chock full of legalistic language explaining away teachings and policies, some explanations slightly above the iq of the average person.. watchtower studies were longer (30 paragraphs sometimes), talks were longer and thus meetings were longer, pioneering was harder (70 hours if i remember correctly), assemblies and conventions were longer, and there were intricate food provisions to feed thousands of people (for a cost of course).. the average jw could recite watchtower propaganda for hours to indoctrinate others or defend their faith.
jws were interested in having meaty discussions at the door and challenging even pastors on doctrinal points.. i know this has been said many times, but the organization has gone through a massive dumbing down.. i can't figure out if it's due to the oblivious nature of the current governing body, a premeditated attempt by them at dumbing down the organization, or just the effects of life becoming easier around the globe due to reliance on technology.. i can only speak on my era, and i know that from the early 90s until around 2004 the organization was allot more doctrine savy.. over the past decade or so i'd say the collective iq of the followers has moved from 105 to 85.. indoctrination and blind belief has allot to do with being prone to be emotionally manipulated, but thinking ability has a say in that too.. social media is a decent gauge of how and what the average person within a certain demographic is thinking, and doing a simple hashtag search on twitter, instagram, or facebook reveals allot about how the current generation of young jws (15-28 or thereabout) are thinking.. many have become self obsessed, internet obsessed, hubris filled and passive, i can see an even bigger decline in growth over the next 5 years.. take a look:.

The dumber people are the more willing they will be to swallow whatever they are given. They are conditioning the sheep to listen, obey and be blessed. Dont research and dont question. Just highlight your answers, go to your meetings, give your parts, turn in your hours and move on.
For the hard stuff; go to the website. For the deeper info; go to the website. Let the website do the actual preaching.
Before, the only time a witness had to struggle was with the few that knew their real history, preachers, ministers or apostates. Now with the internet everyone is just a few clicks away from discovering everything wrong with this religion. People can even find scriptures to counter just about anything a witness can bring to the table. Essentially, preaching door to door can become a sort of bible battleship game. No need to "come back" with answers or rebuttals. A person can request to duke it out on the spot Ipad to Ipad.
This is a very scary scenario for the WT. Door to door every single person they encounter who has internet access can morph into an apostate.
You bet your ass they want the message delivered door to door to be quick and succinct. "Take this. Go to our site. See ya later!"
This is really a sifting work. Sift out the intelligent. Bring in the dumb.

The limits of science.
by Seraphim23 infor a long time i have accepted that when a theist inserts god into some as yet not understood scientific matter, it constitutes a god of the gaps argument.
as a theist myself, the problem with this for me, is that it implies an arbitrary limit on gods ingenuity.
for example, the idea that god created automatic processes to do certain things in nature, and yet with other things the need for a direct hand to either tweak or directly organise!

The fact that we are finite should be our catalyst to discover as much as we can about ourselves the universe and how everything works. Push our minds to whatever that limit might be. In order to do that we must question everything, scrutinize everything. No one will ever know it all but that doesnt mean that we shouldnt try. To throw our hands up and say "God did it" is giving up on the hard work to discover new things.
There is a limit to what we can learn about god. Its been repeated over and over. The bible is only so many pages long. There are not any new revelations about any god or prophecies. All theists can do is wait. Wait for Jesus, wait for Allah or Krishna or whoever.
Imagine if instead of trying to revive a person with CPR knowing they could survive we chose to say, "well its god's time". Imagine if people throught history relied on "god has the answers" or "only God knows"or any other trite proclamation to every mystery we had. What kind of world would we have?
It was because of this quest for knowledge beyond scripture or theology and beyond the trite explanations that we have everything we have today.
Science does not wait. It pursues. It pushes forth. It may not always be correct but, in time, it corrects itself.

Science does not really bother with why because why not? This is not science; this is philosophy.

Theology answers that question with a simple statement: Because God wanted to. There. Done. Close your textbooks.
